If you own a New Holland TC or Case D or DX Tractor, you'll understand this video. When I worked at a New Holland dealership, I loved selling their TC Boomer tractors but there was one thing I hated about them.. They had a major design flaw that I'm fixing on my TC40 in this video. They had a pond built right into the seat.
This seemed like an easy thing to fix in my mind. GET A DIFFERENT SEAT! The vinyl seat that was on all of these tractors had a little trough in it, that held about a pint of water. When it rained, the tractors on our lot would hold the rainwater, and when you sat down on it, you had a wet butt. ALL. DAY. LONG. They folded forward so you could dump the water out and after a few soggy bottom days you'd get trained to do that. Once in a while, I'd forget and...splash! Wet butt again.
Every time I encountered a New Holland product manager or big dog from the company I'd tell them about it. They'd ask what we thought of their compact tractors, which we all knew were ahead of their time, and a leader in the industry. I'd say, "They're miles ahead of the competition, except for the pond in the seat." I'd get a blank look. It was obvious that none of them had ever had the pleasure of slogging around with moist underwear for an entire day. They never fixed it.
Today I'm putting this brand new replacement seat on my tractor: asktractormike.com/product/re.... It's a U.S.A. built deluxe seat and it has A DRAIN HOLE!!! No more wet butt after a rain shower. I've also added these armrests: asktractormike.com/product/ar.... I'm so happy!
If your tractor has a seat issue, I offer a wide variety of seats on my website here: asktractormike.com/tractor-se.... I've separated them by brand and model so you can find the EXACT one for your tractor model. Most of the time they fit with only minor modification. Make sure you read the notes carefully, though. It's hard to offer a seat that fits everything, so there are multiple models and some require blacksmith work to get mounted.
If you don't see what you need, shoot us and e-mail at: support@asktractormike.zohodesk.com and we'll see if we can't come up with one. We offer seats for Deere, Kubota, Massey Ferguson, Mahindra, Case-IH, AGCO-Allis, Deutz, Case...you get the picture. We even have them for oddball brands like Satoh and Iseki. The only brand we don't offer is Kioti and I'm looking for a supplier for them. For whatever reason, they offer a unique seat.
The vinyl on the old seat on my TC40 was cracked and starting to get nasty, it was nice to get it replaced before I was sitting on bare metal. The armrests are a nice touch as well. I wish I had done this years ago. If your seat is going south and not as comfortable as it once was, hop over on my website and see about a replacement. We really want you to ride in comfort.

It is now muscle memory as I dismount my TC 45 DA to grab the back of the seat and flip it forward. I put this milsco seat on my Deere tractor and it is very comfortable! The big complaint I have about my new Holland is the cup holder that doesn’t seem to hold any cups, bottles, or cans!

When I need to replace my IOEM seat I will buy it from you. I got my TC29D new in the spring of 2005 and she lives outside - not even under a cover. But I always tip the seat forward every time I put her away and so far my seat is still in excellent condition - not even a crack!

Hey Mike, I have a New Holland4030 Boomer,although I don’t have an issue with the seat, your title of that video was a design flaw and I have a problem with another design flaw on the boomer. The plastic fenders over the rear tires are cracking. I’ve seen a few other people on RU-vid that have the same problem. I live in Lancaster, Pa. AND I just happen to deliver to the New Holland facility. I stopped in to the warranty department for the boomer and they told me they weren’t aware of any issues with fenders cracking, and they also said there’s nothing they can do. After 2 or 3 years they came out with fender brackets to do away with this problem. I went to my dealer and asked if there was any recall or or extended warranty on this obvious design flaw, and there is not. So I sucked it up and paid $125. For the brackets. My opinion is that this was a very unfair business practice. Mike Richards, Holtwood, Pa

I got in the habit of flipping the seat forward when I park outside in the sun or the rain. But the times I forget have left me very uncomfortable. Not much rain, but drill in a fence post hole, put in the post and sitting on that black seat after a few minutes in the sun is painful.

Exactly, why was the original seat designed to flip forward, probably to stow it in a position so it doesn't fill up with water, dirt, snow, leaves or bird shit. Bet if you read the tractor manual it says that, and most don't even read it once!

Deere used those seats on the X540 and X590 garden tractors for years. They were really comfortable seats.

The biggest design flaw is a lack of storage. It wouldn't be that difficult or expensive for them to build in covered storage bins in the fenders, side(s) of the hood/bonnet, etc

Hey Mike - I am a subscriber and enjoy your videos. I have a TC40D with sloppy play in the bucket. Do have a video that corrects this? Maybe pin replacement, etc. I really have no idea how to correct this problem. Thanks!

The biggest flaw in my eyes is the 3 point lift hydraulics. Mine had developed the dreaded pulsing like so many others. Time to replace the piston and sleeve. I'll be making the next piston in-house and fix the design flaw of the NH part. Other than that, I love my TC-40DA I don't know how I'd get by without it.

I know just what you are saying Mike! 🤣 Our TC45D open station has given me a wet butt more than once! Are you aware of a cloth replacement seat for the super suite cab models??? Thanks for the video 🙂

I always keep my seat flipped forward on the steering wheel to keep it sort of dry and to help keep the sun from destroying it... I have a 2110 Ford/NewHolland from back in the 80's

On my garden tractor (JD x590) I just fold the seat forward and raise the hood. As far as I'm concerned, as others have stated, the big design flaw is the almost complete lack of storage on these things. The cubby next to the almost useless beverage holder borders on useless. And all the surfaces on this thing are curved or swoopy, making it well neigh impossible to mount even a small box anywhere. I can't wait to get rid of it in favor of a real tractor, something more useful.

I always flip my black seat down because lt absorbs too much heat. Solves the moisture problem also.

Ironic that my older model 2120 has a ventilated seat that doesn't hold water. No arm rests, but I usually am doing something with loader controls.

I flip my seat up when not in use and always carry old rags in toolbox. A wet seat has never been an issue. Nice sales ad though.

I am not sure if that is drain whole a s fart relief valve. Any way I have not had any rain or snow pooling on my Kubota L3031 from 2004 seat. It came with arm rests and they are nice. Mike you will like those arm rests.

I have a TC25D tractor and i have the same steering wheel. I love the tractor but now the steering wheel goes up and down freely without stopping. Would you know an easy fix with it? I heard it is a common problem.

No I don't, but you can look up every part on that tractor at New Holland’s website here: www.mycnhistore.com/us/en/newhollandag. Just enter "model" where it says “type” on the right and then put in your tractor model number and navigate to the section you need. Sometimes it helps to see a diagram of what’s inside before you start taking things apart. Good luck!

Flip the seat forward (as is intended) to keep water from pooling in it. The REAL flaw is the lack of armrests.

This is great as ours is looking rough! We have a TC40DA and it clicks when I try to start it sometimes. I replaced start and solenoid but it still does it. Could it be that switch going out? Anyone know hos to just bypass it so I can test that?
@dudemanginni
@dudemanginni 11 месяцев назад
My dx 33 does the same thing. Previous owner had a hot wire crimped to the loom near the starter to jump the solenoid. I pop the hood to start it. Still troubleshooting and haven’t solved issue.

Kioti has one upped your seat problem. Their seats don’t flip up, so you can’t even flip them up to try to prevent that problem or dump the water out! 🤦🏻‍♂️

I know you're not going to like this but one thing I thought of was if you don't have a hole in your seat drill a hole I would think you would have a drill bit laying around I get it I get it you're selling seats and it's probably a nice seat at that it is the seat on my tractor I normally flip it up if I'm going to park it outside which sometimes I do
