My man, I am a mechanic, but spend most of my time working on other peoples stuff so for my own cars get neglected sometimes, this is real helpful because it saves me a lot of time, thank you Bruv all the way from Australia 🇦🇺🤙🏾🤙🏾
Quick question at 4:51 when he says "let the gearstick go to rest" is that in neutral position or in 2nd gear? I have slight resistance/grind when pulling away in 1st and changing into 2nd gear, all other gears fine and also perfect when changing down the gears until 1st which is harder to get in. Is this likely to help my issue? Thank you in advance.
This is a very helpful video thank you as mine was struggling to go easily into first gear sometimes, but it is missing a few bits of information. You should also have a black plastic cover up above the peddles that also needs to be removed before you can undo all of the screws for the large grey plastic cover. I would strongly recommend marking the silver linkage rod (below the yellow plastic adjuster) at its top of travel and bottom of travel with a marker per before you try and adjust it so that you know where it was and where to put it back to if you need to - you can make a pigs ear of its adjustment quite easily and it seems to ratchet in about 1 or 2mm increments. As others have said the yellow clip breaks really easily so try not to bend it more than necessary and you don't need to clip it back in place each time to test the adjusted movement of gear lever - it has a left clip and a right clip. There is also a second rod with its own similar mechanism and adjuster that is much harder to get to - I'm guessing this does the other plane of adjustment but I didn't adjust it - it looks quite tricky to do and you might make a real mess of the adjustment - if you are going to adjust this one as well then it would probably be best to get the first one set as best as possible then do the second one and also mark its position before you start.
Great video! I have just had a new clutch kit and dmf on my 08 T5 2.5. 1st 2nd 3rd 4th ok then try to put it in 5th and it's a little stiff. Could this be the same thing? Any info would be great? 🙏
I had to change the gear selector on my gearbox yesterday. Now my gears are all out slightly 1st is where 3rd used to be. And it goes into reverse without lifting the licking mechanism. I think my side gate cable needs adjusting. Im a bit confused by how you did yours. The manuals Ive read, say to have the gearbox in second gear and the gear stick has 2 holes for a 6mm pin that lock it in the 2nd gear position. Yours just seemed to be in neutral when you set it..... Did you just rely on the stick self centering between 3rd and 4th? Not trying to be smart, I just really dont want to cock this up👍
Hi i have a 2006 t5. I have to let the clutch up about 1 inch from the floor to get the gear stick to slot into 6th. Every other gear seems ok any idea what might be wrong?
The most common cause of gear shift problems is low oil level check the gear oil first. After that is correct if it does not improve. Then next I would suggest it could be the 6 gear bearing which is a gearbox out job so I would resurch a garage nearby and check for reviews before committing the job to the for peace of mind Hope this helps
Same thing happened to me, Followed his advice and the plastic clip snapped off. Sadly this chap doesn't seem to give advice, now I have a bigger problem than before!
Rich Call My problem turned out to be the cables. The one that moves forward and back. The outer had cracked The cable kit didn’t include the ball joint parts with the plastic clips ( so they must be separate parts). I managed to change the cable myself. The hardest thing was clipping the cable to the gearbox from underneath.
