How to Fix A Kodak Playsport With Corrupted Firmware. 

Wanted to drop by and say thanks for the video. I had my Kodak Playsport ZX5 just sitting in the box for about 4 years because it was freezing (bought it from Best Buy as an open box item for $65), until I decided to try and fix it yesterday. Came across this video and was able to update the firmware. Now the camera is working as it should. Things I did and a quick checklist to make it work: 1.) Make sure you use the actual Kodak usb charger which came with the unit. (It uses the correct amperage.) 2.) The camera was now able to charge. Charge the camera for the full 4.5 hours until the camera power light stops blinking and stays solid. 3.) Use a quality SD card 4.) followed this video and upgraded the firmware from 1.0 to 1.06

I have the Zx5 version for almost 9 years and never had a problem or even recall getting a firmware for it. Never even recharged the battery unless the little it did get when i would transfer photos from it to my pc. The one problem i do have is inserting the SD card. its suppose to be pushed in. It seems the tighter the fit now. I feel resistance as i am inserting it and get it 99 % closed, but it is preventing me from closing the little cover that is suppose to snap in. Its also suppose to have what i believe is a spring function so when i want to remove it, the card should be pushed in to release that spring to force it out of the slot.

Mine has a different problem. It launches but when I try to record it stops recording after just 1 second. It doesn't record any file. I tried reinstalling the firmware (thanks to your video) but same problem. *sigh* I've tried different SD cards as well. Maybe the camera is dead. It appears the internal memory is full as well as it shows 0 time when the sd card is gone but I can't seem to format the internal memory either. Update: When I went into the hidden menu on the zx3 and formatted the system through there it fixed it. Now it records NOTE: To access the hidden menu you hold the following buttons all at once when pressing the power button to turn on... * Top of 4 buttons down left side * Bottom of 4 buttons down left side * Record button (middle of joystick)

thanks for the great tutorial. but I cant put anything on it or format it, it always says it's write protected. does anybody have the same problem or an idea how to solve it?

i got playSport Zx5 on Ebay it Delivered on Jan 21, 2021 i looked at it it says camera Firmware version 1.01 what SD card should i use for it?

I downloaded the updated firmware on my Playsport ZX3 to version 1.12. unfortunately this has caused some issues that I don't want. I really need to go back to the older version firmware 1.03 Is anybody out there that can help me. PLEASE
