In this video I show you how to fix a leaking Grohe shower valve. Parts and tools: Screwdriver - amzn.to/2qpUcVp Flashlight - amzn.to/36a7t6q Grohe 47080000 Cartiridge - amzn.to/2QxeEiu
I just completed this project without issue thanks to your video. Having a link to the actual part/cartridge I needed to order was a HUGE help. Thank you!
Your video was very helpful - thanks! I did still stumble at three points. I had a different style trim, requiring an entirely different disassembly procedure. The handle had no visible screws, even efter prying off the cover strip. I eventually discovered a rubber plug on eht bottom. Digging that out revealed an Allen screw. The round cover plate also had no visible screws, and prying didn't work. Rotating to the left by a tenth of a turn let it come free. You had mentioned turning the water off, which I had done - and even opened faucets nearby and on a lower floor, to ensure there was no pressure remaining. Howevr, when I loosened one of those last four screws, I did get some water down inside the wall. Of course, it came from the pipe between the valve and the shower head. I could have either stuffed a towel in there to catch it, or else opened the valve to let it drain out before disassembling the valve, but I hadn't thought of it nor had you mentioned it.
A thousand thanks! I just did this all by myself- but you were with me the whole way. There is just the tiniest little drip left coming from the tub spout. I assume this is just due to the fixture being 25+years old?
I have a shower with Grohe single handle pressure balance valve. Recently, it started dripping. I got the exact replacement valve and installed it per this video. With the valve shut off completely, I opened the cold water line -- no dripping. Then I opened the hot water line, and it was dripping just as before. Is there anything BESIDES the mixing valve that could be causing this dripping?
Thank you for this video! I am doing the exact thing. My shut off valve would not turn. Do I need to exert a lot of force? Does it really have a retaining ring? Thank you.
Can I get your advice? I had a plumber replave the shower valves and overflow plate. Now the tub won't hold water. I tried to adjust it but it didn't help. I called him back, he adjusted it, and it still leaks out. Any advice?
My Grohe seems more complicated than that one. It supposedly has some automatic thermostat. Any videos on removing that one? Also, any idea how to remove the Grohe massage head?
Hello! I just replaced my Grohe shower cartridge and turned water supply on like you did in video and water came out like in your video. I out everything back and the water hasn’t shut off. Any idea why that would be?
Ugh your video was awesome but my new valve began leaking after 3 months. I will get one more replacement valve cartridge before replacing the entire valve assembly.
Good video, thanks. When I took the face plate (I think the term is escutcheon?) off, I accidentally ripped the rubber seal. Any idea on where I could find a replacement?
My handle doesn't pop open like in the video. There is a hole underneath that I think I'm supposed to use an allen wrench on but it seems like there's nothing to unscrew. Any suggestions?
@ 7:38 you are putting the round black piece back on, but there is no stopper and o-ring on the shaft that you put on previously. What's going on with that?
I have a Grohe shower, the handle is dropping slowly and wont stay at the position of water temp, so the water is turning cold. is there an easy fix? Thank you for your video.
Help...we replaced our valve with the replacement valve we were told was a replacement for the original. Our original one looks like the one you used, the replacement looked different. What was the part number for the one you used?
There are several different Grohe cartridges . There should be just one screw or Allen screw that holds the handle in place that needs to be tightened.
I just had to figure this one out… o ring goes over the stem, pushed all the way in to the smooth part closest to the valve. Does not go on the knotched teeth part, push it in farther. When the next part goes in over top they create a tight seal. I broke that tiny o ring having to figure this out the hard way! Hope this helps. It goes in before you ever get to the stop plate and even before cover plate goes on. Atleast for my version it did
This was a great help in showing how to replace the cartridge, but now I have water that leaks out the front of the brass cover when the valve is turned. It seems there should be a washer or something in there. There is the white plastic ring inside the brass cover and this apparently is supposed to be snug enough to prevent water from coming out the front, but it's not. When the handle turns the valve, there's enough play where water leaks out the front and then that goes down inside the wall. Bad news. Guess I'm going back to the plumbing supply store to see if I can get a replacement front cover.
hi matt, i might have the same issue and was told. i need to "rebuild" that part for $750 "the white plastic ring inside the brass plate".. did you have any luck with yours? any advise is appreciated!! thank you!
@@Laroux52 Yes, it turns out that the new cartridge has a slightly smaller "stem". I had to buy a replacement valve cover and trim set. Grohe part #47343550 was $100 on FaucetDirect. After I installed these parts, all was good. Good luck!
@@matthovey3548 thanks so much for putting all of this info in the comments. I ran into the same issue with water leaking from the stem after replacing the valve innards. Hopefully this solves that issue!
I have this brand of valve on my shower like 2 years ago and I paid about $430 now is leaking I wondering how much i have to spend on a new cartridge, and hoping this way my problem be fix, really a bad brand and expensive product if i i knew this kind of situation I never buy this product

On the overflow plate if you take it out pull off the overflow plate and there’s a linkage that is attached to a brass stopper. That linkage needs to be adjusted so the brass stopper is a little bit lower. It may take some back-and-forth a few times to get it perfect.
