I had a rear view cam screen installed over the top of my mirror after which the mirror would sometimes drop. The mechanic who installed it for me alerted me that from the extra weight, the mirror was loose and said that the only way to fix it would be to replace the mirror. Not only did this video help me know how to fix the problem, but it also helped me know not to go back to that mechanic. Thank you!
Glad this helps. True that some mechanics is only interested in replacement rather than repair cause that's where they get more money. I prefer to try and find methods to save money.

I had a rear view camera installed in my son's car and clipped the display onto the rear view mirror. The added weight caused the mirror to drop down. This video saved me money and aggravation. Thank you!
Thanks you so much this helped my situation, I had a dash cam mounted over the original rear view mirror and the weight was heavy and it was loosened, by adding lil bit of receipt paper it got fixed
Great idea. that way it does not look obvious that there is a piece of paper there. The top portion of my windscreen is tinted so i don't see white paper at all.
Now 2021 on this day my daughter just called to ask how to fix her loose rear mirror. And i use this very information to guide her. It really helped. Thanks a lot.

My 2008 Scion xB has this issue this morning and this is what I had in mind of doing except I was going to use a rubber, thin cloth, but looks like paper will work too. Thanks
Genius! Yes I can see the little cracks in the ring inside the mirror, so I'll probably replace it. But for now, three layers of a Walmart receipt and it's a lot better.
glad it works. I was thinking if I should make a follow up video considering some people in the comment section did mention that they broke their windscreen while attempting this. Not sure what kinda muscle they have but its probably a lot.
OMG that was exactly what I wanted at the 1:25 mark THANK YOU !!!!! I have an after market clip on wider mirror 300 MM clipped onto my OEM Mirror and ONLY when Its hot outside its too heavy and the mirror slumps down. This is all I needed I am going to place some silicone in that joint to add some friction Thank you man !! Oh wait paper Hmm Maybe ... Hey your steering wheel is on the wrong side hahaha Oh crapp I saw the TC and though Scion TC Hopefully mine comes off this easily for similar repair...
Silicone might be a bit more permanent but when you move it around awhile, it will still come out and make a bigger mess. I prefer paper as its less hassle and easily replaced. The steering unfortunately came from the factory....... and my government deems left hand drive cars as illegal cars. =) I had to search for Scion TC and found out that its a 2 door Toyota..... which unfortunately is not available in my country as well..... damn Malaysia is missing out on a lot of nice cars.

installed one of those mirror dash cams for my brother and the mirror instantly pointed down. I did this and it was quicker than I expected. His car is a 2014 Toyota Scion xB.
If u want it to be esthetically pleasing, u can use epoxy to make the ball joint bigger, sand it bit by bit according to how tight u want it to be. But u have to take out the rear mirror assembly.
This is also a possible method even if I have not tried it. But it takes longer and yes, based on the comments I am getting, its also safer to remove the entire assembly else there is a risk of breaking the windshield.
Remove the bracket from the expensive windshield. Part of the bracket is glued to the winshield. Part of the bracket can be removed by loosening a screw. Don't risk breaking your windshield by pushing on it.
The mount which is a piece of metal is glued to the windshield. For this particular car model, there is no screw, just need to slide the arm upwards and it will come out. I didn't do that cause the amount of force needed to pushed the paper and ball joint back in is very minimal. But yeah, safe than sorry is good.
