Great video. I have water damage, however everything is working fine aside from the screen. It’s has a dark strip going down the center. I was told since there is water damage, eventually the components will corrode and it will stop working. What are your thoughts?
The strip could likely be permanent GPU related damage. Working lifespan after a spill will depend on the extent of the spill and if it was opened and cleaned or not after the spill. Popping open the cover and cleaning the inside out a bit of dusty won’t hurt in any case my friend. 🙏
I’m definitely going to try this out! Do I just have to clean it and then leave it to dry for 5 days? Also what if the computer is dead can I charge it or?…
Thank you for your comment my friend. I would take the battery out if you can. The longer you leave it out to dry after cleaning like this especially on both sides the better. Take your time and clean every spot well. 🙏 I usually give it two days then reassemble and rethermal then a few more days before my first power in attempt. Letting the battery charge first for a bit before first power on can’t be a bad thing. Especially if the charging light comes on. 😃💯💪✨
Likely a software glitch from when the computer fried after the spill. That's my best guess. I remember this project well. This was a very tough and lengthy fix from start to finish. 🙏
I believe so only because it’s had time to fully dry out. I’ve had the same thing happen with water damaged PC’s and Mac’s over the years. No life in them after the spill and after 6-24 months of sitting doing nothing I go to try right before throwing them out and they boot. 💯 Sometimes these computers have a kind of their own. 😅
@@TechInsomnia Thanks. I'll try to charge it and boot it, but if it doesn't work, then I'll try to clean it out. Also, what types of micro-vacuum attachments would I need?
Hey @TechInsomnia, I’ve had a similar issue with my MacBook and a water spill, it’s had IPA spray and I managed to boot it but the fans were running extremely loudly and then when trying to recover my data it shut itself down and won’t boot again. Do you think it’s worth leaving it a few days to see if it dries out to boot again? Thanks 🙌
I would for sure my friend. If you can put a fan over it so that the air is pointed directly at the board but passing over the board, this can help to pull moisture off and out of the internals of the motherboard. Hope this helps and please do let me know how it goes my friend. 🙏
@@TechInsomnia thanks for the reply! Unfortunately it just won’t boot, no sign of life ☹️ Not sure whether there’s anything else I can try or if I should accept its fate? I’m stuck between sinking more money into trying to repair it or putting it towards a new one that I can’t really afford! I guess the parts can’t be disassembled?
I accidentally spilled the water then a bit of water went through the port part of Macbook pro. It's working but the screen is flickering and has a wave like in the screen. What should I do?
i just had water damage (I placed my laptop on a wet surface). the water got in and my computer froze. I got all the water out right away (some water but not a lot) and dried everything with a hair blower on warm. After a few mins of that it turned on. Should I be worried and not use the computer for a few days?
I would leave it for as long as possible without turning it back on just to be safe if you can my friend. Can you open it and see inside? If so I would leave it open for a day or two and if you have a strong fan have the fan blowing over the opened computer. This will allow the mosture to potentially be pulled out of the computer and into the flow of air passing over it slowly over time. Hope this helps and let me know how it goes. 🙏🤞
@@TechInsomnia got it. Not seeing any water inside and I’m not sure I can see any water damage indicators. I’m not even sure what these indicators look like but not seeing anything red. I opened it and left it open overnight 🙏
My MacBook turned on and was working fine then shut off once the water did its damage I’ll give this a try it’s been a little while since it’s happened
The longer the better to be honest my friend and if you can have a fam near it pointed so its blowing air passing over it (not at it) the air flow/circulation will pull out moisture as well. A science guy thought me that one and it actually works! 💯🙏🙌
Mostly 50% rubbing alcohol and paper towel as well as a plastic pry tool, screwdriver and a whole heck of a lot of patience 😅 Hope this helps my friend 🙏 I'm creating a series on tips to repair water damage and adding to the playlist periodically. You can find it on my channel under playlists. 🙏
Hello i actually had my macbook not working after trying to clean up with water the keyboard after eating chhetos i font know if some parts fell of under the keys i didnt realize that after my brother put the mac under pressure down some books my power button not working and all of my keys now
Mine was working fine, bought in 2019, within warranty period twice it stopped working, it seemed to be issue with charging port. The mac book guys mentioned that they had to chnage the motherboard, both the times it was in warranty period so I didn't bothered while getting the fix done. Fast-forward to 2021, it suddenly stopped charging we took it to service center they were charging us Rs. 27k so we said we don't want to repair it. Now in 2024 when I took it again they opened it up and showed that their are some signs and markings done on every part, he mentioned this is not work of authorized apple man and the motherboard is the same, it has not been replaced, he too mentioned the repair cost as 22k, with no warranty . What do I do? How do I fix this laptop? We bought it in 2019 for 120000
Thank you for your comment my friend. In my experience once a MacBook starts to have consecutive issues it’s usually downhill from there unless the right technician is the first one to open it. 2019 wasn’t a great year for MacBooks and I would invest any more money into it seeing as we are in 2024 now and the new ones with M3’s have so far proven to be great models with stellar battery life and built more to last but we will see how that plays out. Smartest thing you can do with any MacBook to save the most money and insure your computer is always working is get first initially invest in a new one. Then get the two year Apple Care and sell it online 3-6 months before the Apple Care expires. You will get a good number for it because it’s only a 1-1.5 years old at the time of sale. Then add a bit on top and repeat getting a new one with Apple Care for 2 years. In Canada I’ve managed to average that out to having to pay $500-600 every two years for the past 6 years and always have a newer working reliable Apple Computer. Might be a little excessive for some but newer Apple computers tend to experience issues after the 3-4 year mark at least in my experience because they are not built to last forever like some of the 2010-2016 models of Air and Pro like in the golden MacBook days. Really hope this helps and thank you for your comment and support my friend. 🙏
Bristles will scratch and spread the spill residue all around. You want to clean and remove and at least in my experience, paper towel with rubbing alcohol works best. 🙏
These computers are very tricky to get the data off of by means of external enclosure or any method that involves accessing the data on the dive outside the computer itself. Might have to just clean as much of the coffee off the inside and let it sit for a week or two and then try to boot. You'd be surprised how many times that approach actually works my friend. 🙏
@@TechInsomnia yeah, life sucks. my laptotp currently in servise and they said to wait for week. btw situation really bad (not my words). So hope att least I can access to my data. Will share update later on.
Worst feeling.. It was a long shot to try the way I did in this video but thankfully it worked. It doesn't always tho but I figured if I didn't try I'd never know. 🙏
