How to fix a Nikon FE2

This video allowed me to fix my FE.

I wonder if thats what's wrong with mine. I just received a nikon f3 to replace my fe2, though I do plan on getting it fixed eventually; but needed a main shooter replacement in the meantime. Will try this when I get home from work.

For some reason my winder cog (@1:05) won't stay away from the wheel. I've watched a 1/2 doz videos on this with no success: Mirror isn't stuck, etc. I did notice when I manually release the cog and wind it, when I begin to release the winder the shutter fires by itself. Maybe I need to look into problems with the shutter button/mechanism? tyvm

Thanks for the tutorial.. Saved me tons of worries and works like a charm for my FE2😀! To help it from recurring.. i pin drop lube it with Singer sewing mineral oil at the cocking lever moving pivots..think that should help.

What causes that problem in the first place? How come it didn’t have that kind of problem before recently? And would that likely happen again after fixing?

The last tip on taking off the bottom plate and nudging the advance lever mechanism saved me a lot of money, as I was about to send it out for repair. Thank you so much!!!

Going to try this when I get back home. I just bought the fe2 mint condition (or so it was labeled that way on eBay), had the fe before. I really hope this trick works for me and I don’t have to return the camera. Thanks for this video, appreciate it!

Mine is a FE with the same problem, but should be the same issue and fixing. I think I’d give that a try. 🎉

And what I found is another reason is If instead of pulling back on your shutter first and then engaging the timer if some people engage the timer first and then engage the shutter the mirror will only flip up halfway instead of going for the full lock the way to fix this is to pull the little metal lever on the left side of the camera wow looking at the lens hole of the body push that little metal lever down until the mirror releases then pull back on the shutter do not take the picture because the mirror will then go back into the middle what you want to do is pull back on the shutter to engage and then engage the timer then take a picture and then it should cycle as normal

What if the problem keeps happening again and again?

Mine only fires on M250 shutter speed. All else is blocked.

What if its not firing, and the lever is loose not stuck?

Hey I just had my fe2 repaired and now I can’t move the ISO dial past 400. I’m gonna contact the guy but if it’s something that might be easy to fix I might prefer to do that

i have the same problems with my nikon f2 (not winding and cant press the shudder button) not sure if it’ll be the same fix but soon as i get a tool to open the bottom i’ll update
