Thank you , we just purchased a new Flagstaff rv .I looked under bathroom room sink I found a small water leak while testing out rv functions. I would advise anyone don't assume just because it's brand new everything is working properly. Check it out before you take your rv out camping. Great video.

PERFECT! Thank you for this comprehensive video and the links to the tools etc. I bought the tool and a couple things from Amazon and I got the brass connectors at Lowes for less than Amazon and Home Depot.
Wish I saw this before I went to Lowe’s at 8:40 and not stuck without some of the things I should have got. Looming at the set up I wish all these could flex or bend and also screw on so it’s easy to take it off. I’m pulling the T off and can’t get one off. I can’t cut the pipe because I don’t have extra pipe. To your 9pm comment, yep nothing happens during the weekend or day. Only 29° on a weekend and before you are to leave one location.
I’m an rv tech. People can save lots of money by keeping these supplies on hand. For the cost of one service call and repair could create an emergency toolbox to do your own repairs, if you’re comfortable doing it yourself.
Absolutely. I'm basically broke so I do the repairs myself. It's definitely intimidating but usually I end up surprised how easy things tend to be. Idk why I'm still surprised at this point lol
@tomstrickland5504 do you mean the screw clamps? They are not rated for or strong enough to clamp the hard line PEX. Good for the braided vinyl but not PEX
Replacing my kitchen faucet on Friday. It’s leaking. Adding shut off also. PEX is so easy to use you are right. The hardest part is just being able to get to the lines under the faucet. No access panels at all and it’s out of reach. Going to have to get creative with this repair. Thanks for the video Fitch.
Hahaha I'm already freaking out! Bought a 22 year old Class B+. Somewhere there's a leak around the fresh water tank. Gotta find it. It's all winterized at this moment. But not sure how one finds a leak when your water tanks are EMPTY? Meantime this is a good video for making sure you have the right materials and tools in advance of repair work and also thinking ahead for those on the road problems. My little 22' RV has very little storage. No way is it going to hold those large rolls of plastic tubing. But I've already started a material kit to keep on hand and on the road. Like toilet valves and gaskets and so tubing is going into it tool Along with the appropriate tools like the crimping tool. I may have to borrow my husbands...that's not going to go over well. Now if I can just get my husband to come along too and bring that tool. Yeah after 51 years of marriage and his lack of enthusiasm for camping. He's not changing me nor I him and we get along fine this way. I'm the camper. And oh that's why when I see how much STRENGTH for that MAN SIZE Crimping tool...I'll figure it out if need be. I've never owned an RV of any kind and never camp in those fancy campgrounds with water and power. So I'm actually searching on how to fill your tank without a city hose with pressure. It's a little confusing. I'm saving this link however for future refreshing course on how to make repairs. Thanks for your good tutorials.
@@FollowingtheFitchs FYI.. I have a 2018 jayco travel trailer (18ft) I bought used on Craigslist last year. Noticed a water leak near the water heater on the 2nd camping trip last November and again in December. Those darn 90 degree 1/2 plastic adaptors from the cold water line from the water heater was the culprit. So I replaced both cold and hot adaptors to brass from Home Depot - no leaks now after testing for a few hours. I do recommend purchasing a dedicated crimp removal tool - it saved me hours of work. For anyone purchasing an RV/Trailer used for the first time - check your trailer for water leaks!

Good video! I’m here looking because of a drip off a fitting on a Nautilus P-1 system! It’s the system in newer campers an they are a fking nightmare of lines an hoses that you aren’t getting a crisper in! I think going to cut the metal crimp off an put a hose clamp on. Thanks! Bob
@@FollowingtheFitchs Yes an it’s all soft hose an the Winters an freezing in Winters here in Upper Michigan are Not good for These plastic fitting! They leak an when try to tighten fitting they crack an break! Then trying to get parts is even worse. RV dealers don’t want to sell parts they want you to bring RV an charge 100. $ an hr to fix them?

Question. At the end you mentioned the flex line under your sink. I believe that is what was used for my hot and cold water connection to the bathroom facet, not pex. They used the crimp connectors on that, is that proper or should I replace them with worm gear clamps? Both are leaking right now and need repair.
There’s an ongoing debate about that. If it were mine, I would use the crimp style. If you put the worm gear style clamp on, I would definitely use a brass fitting.
DO NOT USE A BOX KNIFE WITH PLASTIC FITTINGS! While completely changing out a plumbing system on a motorhome, I kept changing my mind how I would want a line set ran. I would cut the line with a box knife so as to be able to reuse the fitting. Long story shortened, every one of the fittings I used a knife to cut the pex pipe loose, leaked. What I learned before I pressure tested was if I needed to remove a fitting, was to use a heat gun and just heat the end of the pipe for just a minute or less. The fitting, whether it be plastic or brass would slide right out and thus I saved the pipe and fitting. Just let the pipe cool off for a few minutes and then reinsert your fitting and clamp with a new crimp clamp. It was only after all this though I discovered my leaks which were caused by the knife even though I would swear I never touched the fitting with the knife. No other fittings leaked, even the ones I took apart and reassembled using a heat gun.
I think you missed the point. I wouldn’t cheap out and reuse a plastic fitting at all. That’s why I have the brass replacements and carry them with me in the camper. What I was saying is if you are in a pinch during a trip and need to fix a leak with the tools you may have on hand, you could use a knife to slowly score the line. Most people don’t carry a heat gun around with them (I carry the Milwaukee M18 one) but they likely do have a knife and it can be used in the manner I mentioned in the video without issue.
Dave carries those big rolls of pex because that is smallest roll that you can buy. If anyone knows where to get a practical length to have on hand please post a reference. 😆👍
Dave, thanks for the nice video. It all looks very easy when you're working on the countertop demonstrating things but when I look in my water pump compartment there's no way I can get a big tool in there to crimp things. Could you demonstrate how to work in tight spaces where you have to use a crimping tool?
That’s definitely the toughest part. What I ended up doing was cutting the pex line in an area (that wasn’t broken) where I knew I could use the tool. Then I crimped the parts together out in the open and put it back in place. Then re-crimped the one I could get to with the tool. I know it sounds crazy cutting a part that was not broken just to fix one that was, but given the small workspace, that was the easiest thing to do. If you look at our video from November at Mohican State Park, I fixed a leak on that trip. If I remember correctly, I think I may have mentioned that I had to remove “good” parts to get to the broken one. It’s about mid way through the video. Thanks for watching!
If it’s normal pex line, yes. Sharkbite makes the push on style and also crimp style. I used the Sharkbite crimp style. If you use the push on style, make sure you buy the small horseshoe shaped tool that is needed to remove them just in case you would ever need to do that. There are links to all the parts I used in the video description too.
I changed our kitchen faucet to a residential one. It had 3/8” compression fittings. I got the 3/8” compression to 1/2” adapters. It works great. I also recommend adding a shut off valve too. This would be useful if you ever needed to shut off water to a certain area but still needed water in the rest of the RV.
I'm frustrated... We had a leak and I watched videos such as this one and the replacement of the nylon fittings with the sharkbite fittings. Despite torqueing down those fittings onto the existing plastic manifold on the back of the nautilus P4, the one spot is leaking even more with the sharkbite. Are sharkbite with 1/2" npt truly compatible with the garbage plastic on the manifold?
I have a leak at the connection to the rv hot water heater. It is a 90 degree elbow to pex. Do you know what size the tank thread is? Are they typical in size? 3/4"? 2021 Keystone hideout
Most of the pex in RV’s is 1/2” pex. Actually, I’ve never seen any that are not 1/2”. The lines connecting to my water heater tank are 1/2” pex. I’d bet yours are as well.
I noticed the PEX you carry with you is in coils. Is that PEX A, or PEX B. My understanding is that most, if not all, PEX in RV's is PEX B. Am I missing something? Otherwise, very helpful video. Thanks.

do the swivel fittings fit onto a special fitting or just normal pipe threads. I am making a water filter in the camper and coming out of the filter with a 3/4 to 1/2 brass pipe reducer. with the swivel adapter screw onto that or do I need a special male piece to screw onto. Good Video by the way
The breed is Australian Cattle Dog. Most people refer to them as a “blue heeler” They are herding dogs. There are red heelers as well. Wade is our 2nd one we’ve had and Andrea’s 3rd one.
I had one fitting on the flexible hose leak. It was not due to the hose or crimp, though, the seal inside the fitting got brittle. I used the regular crimp style one to fix it. I think this is one of those topics where if you ask 10 people and you’ll get 10 different answers. I can tell you I have never had a leak due to a crimped flexible hose. Hope this helps! I’m looking at the shark bite equipment. In your personal opinion is there any advantage between the clamp style vs. push on style of the shark bite fittings?
I think an advantage to the push on style is that you don’t need a special tool to put them on. You do need a special tool to remove them, though. Luckily it is a really inexpensive tool. The push on can be used it tight spaces where the crimp tool won’t fit. The push on are more expensive. The push on only work with the hard pex line like I showed in this video. For the flex line, you would need to use the crimp style. Thanks for watching!
Yep. If you have the hard pex line you can use the push on style shut off. You wouldn’t want to use the push on syle with flexible tubing though. Make sure you get the little horseshoe looking tool that is needed to remove them in case you ever need to.

You obviously didn’t watch the video. I explained where to look for leaks, which is actually a bonus since the title of the video is “how to FIX a water leak in an RV”, and not where to find them. Finding them is easy, look for water where it normally shouldn’t be. Ughhh is right, but the 20,000+ other people that watched this video seemed to get it right.
