Great video. I like the way you went through each step thoroughly. Engines are a SOB when there is a certain problem and you really have to go through a trouble shooting checklist just like that.
I thought you'd just take a stab in the dark and see if random stuff fixes things. Ah well, guess having a point might help, thanks genius. I'll remember that.
I have a continuous backfire on my throttle body injected 318 in my 1990 Dodge Ram while driving at cruising speeds, though I believe it’s caused by a rich fuel mixture due to a strong gas smell. Any ideas on how to diagnose/fix? Thanks!
Haha! I just got a 1990 corvette ZR1 has back fire only when decelerating. I was not feeling hopeful, up until the end of the video! I'll have to check tomorrow and see if it's the valves
Just had 351 firing through carby under load in 4th gear down low RPM, vacuum line to the advance unit on the dizzy was old and loose, cut the line a little bit back and refit it back on and there you go, I don't know if it was the vac leak or the poor advance alone or a combination but there is no backfiring now
I have a Harley that backfired when it was brand new. It only started after I took the factory mufflers off. The small afterburn that I’ve heard in every Rx-7 that I owned, when I put the flow masters on my mustang, but the Harley (fuel injected) can sound just like a .45 shot if I take off wide open then let off.
Carb cleaner and MAF cleaner are very very similar and do that same job. We have been using carb cleaner for nearly 20 years with no problems. Thank you for watching!
Guess again! They are NOT chemically the same. Carb cleaner has a much higher percentage of Toluene, which is very destructive to plastics and electrical components.I have seen a friend ruin his MAF through the use of carb cleaner. The plastic housing inside disintegrated!
Yes I agree never use carby cleaner or brake cleaner , I've see countless times people using these and completely destroying MAF's had this argument with an old timer at work and we actually tested it on some spare sensors we had laying around all of his sensors failed , I used the correct cleaner and all mine still worked Great video though guys
I replaced the valve timing solenoid in my 2001 toyota avalon and it runs much better. No misfiring and idles at 800 rpm. Check engine light and VCS lights are back on. Any suggestions??😊
I need help ! I have an 02 Buick lasabre. Upon acceleration i lose power once the engine warms up. Even worse on hills. But once it backfires it seems to gain back some power to pull the hill
My 2001 dodge ram 1500 6 cylinder is backfiring through the exhaust and dying at stop signs or when I put it in reverse it will start stuttering and sometimes backfires sometimes it runs perfect for a week or two and then it does it again usually when I put it in reverse it usually stops and runs right after I shut it off for awhile sometimes after a long drive when I slow down it starts popping out the exhaust
When I came thru the ranks a long time ago, there were two causes ; lean mixture , or retarded timing , nowadays any number of things can cause these conditions, or give the ecm false information.
we have an RV we are trying to get going again. It cranks but backfires inside the engine, and will not stay running. It is a 460 engine. Its a Ford econoline 350. 1991.It will not idle at all. you have to keep pumping the pedal. i know its getting gas but as soon as you let off the gas it dies.
Great video Question I have a 2007 v8 5.4 I recently replaced all plugs but used same coils. Now it backfires when it’s cold when I’m accelerating . Also when I get outside and touch the body it zaps me ! Any ideas ?
@@2carpros no worries... EJ20 - head is O ringed not the block, 2mm copper head gasket. Any special advice? apart from being especially careful around the water jackets with the exhaust sealant..
@American I liked their reply. I'm assuming some understand the humour, bit of the ole Month Python sort of jibber jabber. They know what o-ringing a block is, and how to check leaks. It gets messy... Lol.
I have 98 f150 with4.6 had diesel put in it and drove bout 100 ft I cleaned all of the tank out and new plugs but engine light is blinking and it back fires any ideals I know it's a misfire but I have no idea how to fix it ran like new before this crap
My truck is not just backfiring it is stalling and now it won't start at all we have taken it to a shop and he said he checked everything he replaced the ignition module a couple of other parts because he could not figure out what was wrong with the truck the check engine light was not on so we could not scan it. This truck has a lot of power so some of what your video shows makes a lot of sense but the stalling and almost dying on the freeway twice plus the backfire..?
Do you have any idea on what could cause a 2005 mustang gt to backfire really loud at idle? I have new sparkplugs, coils, and injectors.. also have one bank running rich and the other lean
I’m having a issue with my truck backfiring (like a cannon going off) each time I fill up. Does it about 4-5 times. I’ve only owned the truck for 3 weeks. It’s a 2018 F150 turbo charged 5.0. Any ideas?
My family’s 2018 Dodge Durango R/T, when going up a hill, (15-20 degree angle) makes a slightly muffled sound, and then makes a very loud pop, would this be an issue with the valves? Let me know please :)
Redid the head gasket and the timing gear on the camshaft of a 2.5 L Chevy S10 1990 readjusted the valves everything should be timed in backfiring through the carburetor is there a step I missing check the distributor everything should is lined up any help any ideas of why it's backfiring and won't run
It's got two timing gears one on the camshaft one on the crankshaft both of the shafts are keyed the camshaft is the bigger gear crankshaft being the smaller if bull timing marks are supposed to be lined up with key way then I shouldn't be out of time unless it's the crankshaft 180 degrees out right or wrong
i tried starting,my engine multiple times after water got in the oil. i changed spark plugs 6/8 and oil change as well and left it for about 3 weeks. i went to start my engine again but i sprayed starting fluid in the throttle then that's when the popping happened. could it be unburned fuel stuck on spark plugs or just too much starting fluid?
Same thing happened to me change all the spark plugs and if u sucked water through the intake like I did change the intake temperature sensor and the mass airflow sensor
How does a low preassure causes a backfire!? Regardless the explossion should happen i side the cylinder..it will cause a missfire but not a backfire..if im wrong please explaine
Hey can you help me out i have a 1987 mustang gt am having backfiring problems low power low temp i changed spark plugs & wires, distributor ,fuel filter and am still having problems
I have a frustrating problem on a '91 Olds 98 Regency (3800)...... It backfires when the engine is cold and when it warms up it runs fine....... I have replaced wires, plugs, coils, ignition module AND Temp sensor........... what else?
That is a complicated question, if you go to our website www.2carpros.com and ask a question for free, an expert will be along shortly to help! Thanks for watching!
Hi my 97 honda accord was working good .tried starting it on a cold day it started was warming up n it cut off.look under the hood antifreeze everywhere.started it today it started i cut it off tried to start it again and it popped under the bottom of the car.help
hello, we people did some major service of porsche cayenne V6 car, after having the test drive everything was good as usual, but someone from washing team sprayed water on car engine. Next day when we people come to know about this we checked the car with scan tool. as engine light was on and there were some misfiring codes & a crankshaft sensor code(P0338), so we removed spark plugs& ignition coil, removed water from there & checked the engine again.. Misfiring codes were gone, at idling everything was o.k., but as we increased rpm engine light was on again & it was also backfiring at high rpm..... checked scan tool again, the crankshaft sensor( P0338), was there... we tried change MAF sensor & throttle body, but no improvement.... what could be the cause ??????
I have exhaust backfire only when i release the throttle. If i acclerate steady it goes smooth. Let off and i get LOUD popping, especially driving over 45mph. Idle is smooth. 98 dodge ram 5.9 gas
I just replaced the coils and plugs on my 2003 hyundai sonata and the cylinder backfires when I attempt to accelerate or rev the engine in P/N. I ran a diagnostic on my OBD2 scanner and it threw a p1166 code so I have a bad o2 sensor. Could that cause a backfire? Or maybe the spark plugs or coils were incorrectly placed?
Right on! Very important. Small but good example was maintaining shotcrete machine underground mining and the tolerances were fked. Alot of guys couldn't run machine the shitrete was too thick or too thin and the gun operator was always saying too thin mix too thick. Instead of constantly setting concrete mix and air pressure I just kept constant preddure on grease gun as the shaft and bore turned making it constant. Other operators were fighting worn tolerance and trumng to set up constantly between but with great gun it kept it all in one. No problem. Understand the machine, steel and tolerances . Right on!!!
What? Cleaning a mass air flow sensor with carburetor cleaner will destroy the mass air flow sensor!!!, it’s a specialty cleaner for mass sensors cost twice but will not destroy your sensor.
My motorcycle is starting properly and ilding properly but when I open the throttle my bike backfires and die. And one more thing that my bike is not starting with an open throttle, it just starts with closed throttle
