This is a follow up video to the video where I had a broken underground sprinkler pipe. I accidentally crushed an underground sprinkler pipe with a T post last fall while putting up deer fencing around a tree.
This video shows how to fix an in line break without having to put in two 90 degree bends. You can get the "pipe dream" pvc fitting from Sprinkler Warehouse online. I am glad that I bought that because it really came in handy for this project.
This was an easy project... it just took some time and effort. I hope this video helps someone.

learning curve for me on this sprinkler stuff which frankly Ive never wanted to be in the position of having to water a lawn esp in Cali. but, here I am.. knew there had to be a way to do a straight connection via glue job. Going to put in a compression T for sprinkler head for this one I'm doing. The only thing is would of been perfect if you could of elaborated on dream pipe a little more. I got it though when I went back and watched that part again. Have to check hardware for that pipe.

putting that auto drain on that pipe will cause the pipe to drain out every time the zone shuts off. i never used one but i think they are only supposed to be used on main lines (lines that are pressurized all the time). if you live in a cold climate you cant forget to winterize

Are you in the landscaping business or a CEO?!

It's not always a good idea to add a sprinkler head. Each individual valve can only flow a certain GPM, if you try to feed to many sprinkler heads/rotors off of one valve then they will not function properly.

Help!! My daughter was walking to her car during a really bad thunderstorm and slipped on our green sprinkler system box in front yard. The lid flew off and she fell in all the way up to her thigh. One leg in, one leg out. Her foot came down on a pipe because water was spewing out of it and down our street. A neighbor was able to turn the water off but we need to get this fixed. We have a Rainbird e6c. What is an estimate for a repair like this? We aren't the original installers so unfamiliar with sprinkler systems. Are we talking hundreds or thousands to repair?
@neilgalyan6117

Hey Connor. Great videos! Unbelievable lawn! I see that you had your wife turn on the sprinklers for you. This isn't a plug or anything but I recently installed a smart water timer call Rachio. It's a smart timer that syncs with the local weather so it'll automatically make adjustments depending on the current conditions. It's all controlled with your phone so you can runs tests, set up your watering schedule, or turn the sprinklers on your kids while they are playing in the yard. I love mine. They'd probably even give you a free one if you made a video of installing it. In California, I even got a $100 rebate from the water company so it was cheaper that the old regular timers. Check it out! (Once again, I have no affiliation with Rachio, just love mine)

They're only $200 or so for 16 zones and $150 for 8 zones. Best money I ever spend on the yard. I use it all the time when I'm doing yard work and landscaping. You'll wonder how you lived without it. I'm sure they would HAPPILY send you whatever you want for free just for mentioning them. Rachio is the best reviewed product on Amazon that I've ever seen. 85% give it 5 stars. Skydrop is a similar Utah company. Rachio is out of Colorado.

How does that drain work? Does it just dribble at a constant rate whenever there's water in there, or does it only drain when water pressure is low, so when the sprinklers are off?
@mmazurkiewicz639
@mmazurkiewicz639 6 лет назад
maybe a check valve ?
@btownsmostwanted
@btownsmostwanted 6 лет назад
It leaks when there is low pressure. I have a sloped yard and install them every 10 feet per 1 ft drop. They work fantastic at draining the line. On the other side of things if you install check valves you don't need to install these and they save water in the lines for next time. It most likely depends on where you live. I live in the northeast so I need to blow my lines every year. If you lived in FL you probably never need to.

You can't just add a sprinkler head... a properly designed zone would be close to maximum flow for the water source. Adding a head will cause the pressure to drop some degree, and gear rotors depend on higher pressure to get water stream breakup. All that said, you can nozzle down the existing heads, which reduces their flow (and requires longer run time to achieve similar amount of water) and then add your head with a reduced nozzle and you'll maintain pressure. I see you used Rain Bird which IMO are the best gear rotors. You might need to review the nozzles on all the heads and reduce them. Note that full circle need bigger nozzles then half circle pattern ones! Good luck man.
@lawnrebel
@lawnrebel 6 лет назад
I knew going into the adding of the sprinkler head that it could compromise the rest of the zone via the pressure. I figured that if it was a problem I could just cap the line. I have yet to see if it had a negative impact because I just found out last night that I have another head in that zone that is broken. Once I fix it I will know. I am pretty sure it will be just fine.

If you use a bit of teflon tape on the threads of your screw-in fitting, you will avoid the leak which required additional tightening. Also - heat up the flex tube slightly with a plumbers torch, and it will slip on to the fitting like butter; it will cool and form a super-tight seal to the fitting.

Connor Ward I personally don't use it on irrigation lines bc I'm trying to water the ground anyways and it's more efficient to water roots directly but this is what I use. You broke a rule!........again!!You had your wife help you. Shame, shame....on you. Ha ha.... love your video. By the way, how come you didn't use teflon tape on the drain and sprinkler fitting. That works awesome to stop leakage. Also, when you put the gravel back into the hole, take a small plastic garbage bag On top of that gravel then cover that with the dirt. That helps keep the dirt from filtering down through the gravel and give it the water a chance do drain out in through the gravel and not the dirt. Otherwise the water would not drain as quickly in the fall or when you turn the water pressure off to your sprinkler system.
@lawnrebel
@lawnrebel 6 лет назад
That is a great tip with the plastic on top of the gravel. I will definitely be doing that in the future. I have never used Teflon tape. I did not really think that it was really that necessary on a sprinkler system. We are talking about watering the whole area so I figure that a drip here and there is not really going to make a big difference. I just crank them down tight.
@dronemaddness5148
@dronemaddness5148 6 лет назад
I used to install sprinkler systems in southern California and this helped getting a good seal on the threads. Hand tight is no problem if your using teflon tape. Otherwise you could crack the plastic inside you're fitting and that's a pisser to fix.

You shouldn't use PVC pipe for your speibkler system. It isnt the greatest pipes in the world. It will brake naturally over the years in the soil. Rather go and buy some black PVC pipes. It is stronger and more flexible
