Spread deliberately in all directions this will fill and adhere it better to the holes so you don’t get air pockets. You shouldn’t have to mess with it so much that it gets chunky, it doesn’t need to look pretty. Just leave a good layer and use a sanding block after. Pull the tape when it’s still wet, it gives cleaner lines and doesn’t get stuck. If you leave the mix on a bondo spreader, when it hardens you can flex it to crack it all off easily. Using a laminated paper plate or flexible plastic is good for a mixing spot. You don’t want the resin in the mix to soak into the cardboard It’s better to use less catalyst because having time to make sure your mix is uniform is most important. If it’s pink, you’re prob using too much. Measure based on the oz from the containers you’re using.The normal size bondo cans are 14oz and they give you 0.5oz of catalyst. That’s about 2x as much as you need. Probably easier to just get some concrete filler with a caulk gun. Just trying to give some tricks. I studied composites in college

They make masking tape specifically for concrete and asphalt. It's green.

The trick so sanding bondo is to start the rough sanding when it’s still HOT aka starting to cure . (It actually heats up) but you sand the grooves down , and then do the find sanding on the edges and stuff . (Your finishing ) with a higher grit sandpaper. Nice video tho

Great video, thanks Cory. I'll definitely make use of this technique. Question: Is there any techniques with this type of stuff that includes the addition of some fiberglass or nylon fibers to the mix, to give the Bondo additional structural strength, resist cracking/chipping, etc?

A big stainless steel wire brush and some trisodium phosphate would help you clean out those cratered areas so your patch won't pop out nearly as early.

So, assuming you need to hit a spot NOW bondo is fine, but why not just use cement and cement bonding agent if you want the spot to last longer?
@drmidnight2419

The problem is not bonding, the problem is you have 2 separated pieces of cement. Temperatures change during day and night, this will expand and contract the cement. The cement is solid and cannot hold 2 different pieces of cement together, it will crack right away. Bonds is more flexible and will last longer.

can you grind over bondo/ would it be possible to seal cracks in a curb spot with it?
@keenramps
@keenramps 2 года назад
Yes you can, I've seen this done to fill in chunks on ledges before but it wi take a lot of wax to get it going. maybe use a layer of lacquer over it after.

I'm Dutch so bondo isn't a regularly used thing. I'm thinking it's short for bonding agent. I Saw it used to Fix a car on the can. So is it a metal putty?
