Hi ,welcome to the strange world of MR2/S MK3. just one point, the number 1 cylinder is always to the front of the engine in our case where the timing chain is, you were starting at the back .hope this helps for the future. David , ( UK)
Yes looking from the rear 4321 . look on mr2roc.org 1zz rebuild., on you tube there are plenty of 1 zz engines in state of rebuild. look for phoenix and dad,and peter finn they help me a lot when i rebuilt my engine ,the piston rings were all gummed up solid causing heavy oil consumption .you say you might go the turbo route, have a look at the 2zz ge out of a Celica. comes 190bhp out of the box this is the engine they should have had ,lots of of videos on this and lots of specialist in America. they also put this engine in the Lotus Elise. you can also get a celica engine with super charger. look at Spyder Lee he does a comparison , Mitch Dore , and StarkReality Do plenty of research, all the best
Hello Hoang B4, Nice Video and welcome to the MR2/S MK3 Toyota! I could not see your exhaust system so do not know your model year range. I have an 2001 with original engine and only 59k miles, and the engine will fail soon. The early MR2/S spyders, like mine, had two catalytic converters installed on the exhaust manifold. Unfortunately, the "cats" would break-down and with them being so close to the exhaust valve would actually suck back the "cat" material and prematurely damage the engine bore. This is what happened to my vehicle and it trips the P0300 and other misfire codes. It also consumes oil at ~1quart per 500 miles! Hope you do not have this issue. PS: Engine cylinder order as not correct on your video. Cylinder count starts at the "front of the engine" which is noted by the accessories (A/C compressor, alternator, etc.). Cylinder 1 on MR2/S is on passenger side of vehicle......many shops also make same mistake as this engines main usage in on a front engine front drive vehicle where when looking at engine, cylinder count starts on left, passenger side (for left hand drive vehicles - LHD). NOTE: Cylinder 1 is always on passenger side for LHD vehicle, does not matter if engine is in in front or rear of vehicle. hope this helps and welcome to MR2/S owership. P
NICE and hope the pre-cats were removed b/4 any issues. Just be mindful of oil consumption....that is the give-away key that engine is damaged. NOTE: I also wen through COP and O2 sensors hoping for best but I am stuck! GRRR and dealer knew what they sold. P
Great news! I am actually in the process of upgrading to 2zz. Purchased local drop-out from a Celica GTS and have it down to a bare block right now. It will be a long process, but hoping to make some youtube videos to give back to the community. I have learned a LOT from people like you and others posting videos. Cheers, P
I have a Mr2 spyder 01, my problem is that the car starts the check engine and it smells a lot of gasoline, the car starts to fail. I have replaced 3 oxygen sensors, the injectors, clean the gas tank and change the pump. when it has the fault, I just unplug the battery and reconnect it and it works perfect for 15 minutes and turns on the check light. I do not use it because I have not been able to solve the problem. great video thanks
What fault codes are it throwing? You can get a code reader for cheap, in fact buy a $16 bluetooth OBDII reader and download the "torque pro" app on your phone or tablet and that will show you stuff most code readers won't such as fuel trims and live O2 sensor readings, but it will also allow you to search the check engine codes which will give you a good clue as to what is failing. Tragic you aren't driving it, sell it to someone who has time to invest in repairing it if you can't find the time :) these cars are meant to be enjoyed and I love mine! Let me know what codes it's throwing I may be able to point you in the right direction. Cheers!
@@alejandrosilva7892 after many tests, we realized that the problem was the ecu, we replaced it and problem solved. the ecu needs to be programmed, my car is a mr2 spyder 2001 engine 1zz. good luck
