How to fix Clogged Sunroof Drain on a 4th Gen 4Runner 

Couple thoughts. Never use vasoline on rubbber seals, it ruins them over time (causes rubber to swell). Use silicone grease, looks like exactly like vaso but is highly recommended for rubber seals and is a better lubricant for the mechanism itself. 2nd and very important. If you had that leak, even for a little while you really need to extract that water out. Leave car closed and run AC w/the recirculate button on (for like 12 hrs if you can) and have air directed to floor vent only. This works as a dehumidifier and keeps you from getting musty smell or even worse, mold or midew in the padding under the carpet (voice of experience here). Mine was dripping down the driver side A pillar due to being clogged. Thanks for the video so I could find drain holes. .95 orange weedeater line work well also to feed into holes.

Avalon here with the same issue - I had no idea there was a drain there, because mine was clogged and was leaking all over the inside of the car. Thanks to your video I knew what to do - first I used the towel to soak up all of the standing water, and then it became a really clear that there was just simply some crud plugging up the drain hole in the sunroof. Used a napkin and some needle nose pliers to clear it out and it's now draining again.. Can't believe how simple that was, thank you!

Thanks for the quick fix. I used an air compressor to blow out the drain and it's working the way it should.

I figured this out last year when my truck started leaking inside - what a mess that was. And yesterday I was driving and heard a bubbling sound when I turned the corner. At first I thought it was my sons phone...then he reminded me what it probably was. Guess I'll be cleaning drains today! (I just couldn't remember how I did it, so found your very concise video - THANKS!)

Thank you for the video!! I had water dripping into the driver's side floor area after two days of rain and couldn't figure out where it was coming from. I opened the sunroof to find a pool of water in the front channel. Used a bike brake cable and all is good. Thanks again!!

Thanks! Your video helped me find the drain holes at the sunroof and now water is flowing out instead of into my 4Runner. I also had about 2 pounds of muddy compost stuck in each fender where it was supposed to drain . Fingers crossed that my leaky sunroof is fixed.

There’s also weep holes under the bottom of the rear hatch and if you don’t keep those clear the rear hatch will fill up with water. Same with the side doors. This becomes an issue when the rear hatch window seal strip gives up the ghost which allows tons of water to enter the rear hatch window. Heard water sloshing around in my sons 2005’s rear hatch and when I cleared the weep holes gallons of water ran out of the rear hatch.

There is a perforated plastic plug in the bottom of the drain hose. It easily gets plugged with debris. After removal of the plastic trim near the corner off the door frame I popped it out by pulling on the hose with a pair of needle nose pliers.

Are there only 2 drains on the front for the 4th gen? Are there 2 rear drains also? I cant see back there, thought id ask

If the water is coming in down near the driver side door, what's the best way to fix the clog?

Don't use petroleum jelly or Vaseline. They are oil based and eat rubber. Use KY jelly or something water based.

U can also use a air compressor

Mine Sunroof has struck and voice of cranking keep coming in, its slightly open and struck there. any suggestions for its fixing?

To be sure to clean it out, wouldn't you need a very long wire that goes all the way down and out to the front of the car? Otherwise you could just be lodging the clog deep within the tube, no?
