I'm going to share how I just fixed mine, which are different. They're the cheap vertical blinds systems you find in apartment buildings. My system has a long chain at one end that I pull to turn the blinds left or right. In the past, when I had a problem, I would pull the chain beyond the stopping point, forcing it, basically, so that I would get that scary grinding sound. Sometimes it fixed the problem, and I didn't worry about it until the next time a few slats went rogue on me. Today, though, I had at least 10 slats that were out of alignment, and so I went on the Internet to figure out what to do. I ended up trying the credit card method. First of all, I noted that each slat had a little hole wherein the sliding system connects. There are individual little plastic slat connectors within the sliding system and they have tiny two-fingered claws that grab each slat from both sides of the slat hole. I noticed that the fingers of the claw aren't exactly the same size. The finger on the back side was slightly longer than the one on the front. I jammed a credit card (actually my drugstore club card) under the shorter finger side of the slat and the entire slat easily detached itself. You may have to use two credit cards, one on each side of the slat, and that should allow the slat to slide out. After I removed all of the problematic slats, I then used the long pull chain to turn the remaining slats all the way to the left and then all the way to the right. Actually, the slats didn't want to go all the way to the left, so I pulled harder and it began grinding away. I gave it several sustained pulls until I saw that the slats were completely closed. Then I tried everything again a couple more times: I fully closed the blinds to the left and fully closed them to the right. Now, before I reinstalled the slats that I had removed earilier, I stepped onto a stool and closely inspected the plastic slat connectors to see if they were pointing in the right direction. They were! Reinstalling each slat was simple. You slide them through the claws and they snap right in. Mission accomplished!
