We explain one of the biggest issues causing death wobble in a Jeep Wrangler JL, JK, TJ, XJ, LJ, or MJ. Loose track bar bushings are very common and can be very easy to diagnose when causing death wobble in a Jeep Wrangler. Track bar upgrade options are plentiful for the Jeep platform and we can help find the right fit for your Jeep Wrangler.

The one I just had was bone stock at 100k mile with newer ball joints. It started after I did a wheel rotate. A Chrysler tech insisted hed stop by on his road test. He had me rocking the wheel and didnt see a damn thing. You shoulda seen how nice these tires are too! Barely needed a balance. We went with the leaky original damper since there was nothing to find, other than the Generals with 80% life!

Working on my JK 2-Door at the moment. It has 4" lift springs, and I'm trying to figure out the trackbar "science". I don't have a drop pitman arm, and my drag link and trackbar are both mounted in the factory positions. This has them running parallel. I've upgraded my trackbar to an adjustable Rough Country trackbar, and adjusted it to center my axle beneath the Jeep. The drag link has also been adjusted so that my passenger wheel is straight with the steering wheel (pending minor adjustments at an actual alignment shop), and this has my trackbar and drag link running parallel in relation to each other. Obviously without any brackets to raise or lower either end, this changes the angle they sit at, but the axle is centered. I've seen some online discussions say that the two bars running parallel in relation to each other is the main important thing, and that a trackbar relocation bracket shouldn't be necessary if the trackbar itself is adjustable. I've also been advised that the bracket is still necessary even with an adjustable trackbar, and that I'll also need a drag link flip kit (I think the JKS kit even uses a bracket that relocates the mounting position for both). Is the angle itself a concern in addition to whether the drag and track are parallel to each other, or is this another case of Jeep guys racing to buy as much expensive aftermarket BS as possible?

I have a stock 06 TJ. I have death wobble. I could see the bushings on the track bar were worn. I replaced the track bar with an adjustable one because I am going to put a 2 1/2 inch lift on it. I made sure everything was tight and the steering wheel was centered. The death wobble it worse. Do you have any suggestions?

I have a 2012 jk I have replaced the track bar. Replaced the shocks with Bilstein. Jeep has a small spring spacer lift on top. Also replaced my Swaybar links with a adjustable pair. New wheels and tires properly balanced. Still have shaking. More noticeable on hard stops or long curves. Any ideas I was thinking possibly brake rotors?

I have found some DW is from loose or cracked steering box mounts and the skinny tie rod/ adjusting collar on jeeps can flex and be part of the cause. For stock jeeps the axle side track bar bushing and bolt be the first thing to check. Also any of these parts can cause others to wear from DW. Or even break other parts as well including motor mounts.
@thedeathwobblechannel6539
@thedeathwobblechannel6539 4 года назад
DW sucks. Watch out for overpriced parts and shyster mechanics. Ps DW CAN be fixed. Jeep is not good at dealing with it and they should be on the problem. But arent
@thedeathwobblechannel6539
@thedeathwobblechannel6539 4 года назад
Wanted to add for people new to DW and fixing it, many say a steering stabilizer. Sigh yes it needs to be in good condition. It can mask the problem to have it return next week or next month. As you chase down all your worn parts get the best ones you can afford. And FYI you dont need a 500 to 1000 dollar steering rods setup. Be diligent in your testing and repairs and keep high standards of what are deemed " good parts" condition. Look for oil leaks above to destroy rubber bushings below.fix the leak AND the loose suspension parts

So here is my problem. I bought a 2016 jku Sahara. It has a 3" zone lift. They put two steering stabilizers on, sometimes depending on the road and weather (rain) it feels like a fight to keep her straight on the road. The Jeep has 35x12.5x20 tires on er. It's not necessarily a wobble it's just more of a fight. I'm always having to correct it to get the jeep to drive straight and if I o we correct I'm found trying to correct the over correct if that makes sense. I plan on taking the driver side stabilizer off to see if it helps or reveals the real problem.

Check your Caster. Go get an alignment done, preferably from a 4x4 shop, but any will do. You need a good amount of positive caster. Your lift hopefully provided adjustable lower control arms. If not, you will need to get them or get some that match the right length for your lift. If your caster is good (mine is about 8.5 degrees positive but 7 is probably good too), then it's not your control arms.

@dr.deathwobble4899

The upper and lower control arms center the vehicle in a triangulated 4 link setup, but in the JL and JK there is very little triangulation because of how they have to package the suspension so the track bar is there to center the axle and hold it centered. THANKS for the question!!

Trust me on this one, 40 plus years fixing autos. The death wobble is NOT from worn parts!!! It IS due to Too much Negative caster. Have a real alignment done and move caster as much positive as possible with keeping the camber to as close to zero as possible.. PROBLEM SOLVED!!!! Also toe set at 1/16 in on both sides. No more wobble and tires will last much longer.
@dr.deathwobble4899
@dr.deathwobble4899 4 года назад
So in 40 years you have never seen DW caused from a worn component? Seriously? Obviously you have never watched any of my other videos explaining caster... but yes 1 of the main causes for DW is not enough caster. But a worn out track bar bushing can’t cause DW? Hmmm. Toe in is a whole other discussion...If you toe in a Jeep JK or JL you will cause DW in a vast majority of the cases. We have fixed hundreds of Jeep JLs by adjusting from toe in to toe out.
@andrepizzo8550
@andrepizzo8550 4 года назад
@@dr.deathwobble4899 You are looking into my message like I have no knowledge in repairs, of course worn parts cause instability in many ways. But DW is not from worn parts , it is what causes the premature wear on all the F/E components because they are fighting it always (especially with low tread (bald) tires). First thing to fail is the trackbar so they install super duper trackbar then comes the next weak link and so on. You can change, beef up parts and add stabilizers all you want just prolonging the inevitable. DW will be back! And with the slight toe in it helps to return steering back to center so the driver does not have to, which leads back to why jeeps with solid axles have neg. caster to make the steering effortlessly return back to center. At my shop of course we sold the customer every worn part there was, and then did the fix to stop it from happening again. Not to mention the truck handles way better with Pos caster. We would inform the owner to be aware of how the steering will return. Being the I am retired now I would like someone like yourself to try my method and post the results good or bad.
@dr.deathwobble4899
@dr.deathwobble4899 4 года назад
Andre correcting DW by fixing suspension and steering geometry issues is exactly how we fix DW. I agree with you that quite frequently worn parts are the result of DW not the root cause. I appreciate your tone much more in this second comment. Thanks for watching, check out some of the other videos.

Track bar has nothing to do with death wobble, it just let's it happen easier. The root of death wobble is your toe adjustment, it's very critical so you dont drive with a perpendicular load on the tire. Never have your straight axle toed in, that is most peoples problem. Start with zero toe , if you have deathwobble toe it towards out very slightly, a little at a time until it stops. The crown of the road can really affect some tire setups, making them want to track in, even with zero toe. That's why slightly out will correct the issue. Death wobble is a very serious issue, and there's so much misinformation about it. Sure sometimes a trackbar can make it go away, but it's not the root of the problem. Brand new vehicles can dw, with improper toe, and most shops don't know any better than to just go by the factory specs, which is bullshit.

@dr.deathwobble4899
@dr.deathwobble4899 5 лет назад
Yes. Toe in is one of the causes of death wobble but to say it is the only root cause is inaccurate. No amount of toe out can correct a worn bushing, incorrect caster, tire failure etc. When Understanding death wobble you need to look at the steering at the joint level. Yes toe out will preload the joints more to reduce vibration through the system but to overlook the rest of the system and jump right to toe 100% of the time will lead to poor results.

Toeing it out slightly relieves the side load on the tire, that's my point, to compensate for road crown. Also if you have a loose trackbar and deathwobble , that's the best time to set your tracking, because it will deathwobble easier and you can tune it out, before you put your new one on.
