Back here after fixing my black screen issue just to say that it works. Restarting windows explorer did the trick for me. The robotic voice in this video might be frustrating but the solution is 100% legit. More power to you man. I thought I'm done with this laptop now. Dell 5558. It's hinge is broken and I can't close the lid. I don't want to take it to a repair shop as I have very bad experience with my previous laptops. They never fix it and rather steal parts of the laptops. Yes, even official dell stores weren't able to fix their own freakin laptops. With this new issue of black screen whenever touching the mousepad I thought it's finally time for a new one. Initially I thought the wire connecting to the screen might be cut due to hinge issue. But gave it a day to think. and today with a cool mind I searched on youtube and landed on this video. Did the windows explorer restart and "Magic!" It's all good again. Hinge is still an issue though.

Ok I have not yet attempted fixes yet but I really have to say this. How the heck can I perform #3&4? My screen is not displaying. That point being made I guess this is 1/2 the way to being helpful. These "tutorials" can be sooo exhausting at times. C'mon Tubers if u go to the effort of recording, editing and posting use your melon. (Just sayin)

Same problem dell screen turned out black... As mentioned in video I pressed the power button for 10 to 15 secs .. ie until the laptop turned off... Then after 5 mins I turned it on .. the problem was solved . Hope it helps you . 👍👍😊

Im confused. At 1:10 he says to drain the battery by holding the power button for about 60 seconds but if the battery is removed when you hold the button-down how is that draining the battery?

Not much here for me other than his keyboard combination, which didn't work either. I already knew about a hard reset. Looking like a dead onboard graphics chip on mine to me at this point. It's go a long way in helping to explain why I'm unable to pull up anything on my external monitors, as I tried a few. I tried toggling ram slots with the only stick, then replacing it with a known working identical stick & repeating that process, just a black screen, but the keyboard lights are on, it's charging light is on indicating that it's charging just fine, and it holds that charge just fine whenever unplugged from power. It's able to power back down when I press the power button again, I hear nothing, see nothing on external screen when F8 is pressed or an F8 + the Function key combination at the same time. 5 hard resets later with the CMOS battery also removed each it, and trying powering on with two different known working chargers, one of which is my OEM one, both tested on my multi-meter as being in fine working condition tells me definitively that I either have a dead onboard graphics chip, or the worst luck on the planet to have the misfortune to have a bad screen & a broken HDMI port at the same time, which is unlikely because I never even use it to have broken it. Either way this machine's not worth a new motherboard, or taking my chances at getting a new screen+cable. Time to buy a new Dell!~: )

Method 2nd, Pressing power button for 15-17 seconds worked for my laptop

None of this works, I been literally frustrated for trying to fix a black screen all day. Anything I do doesn’t work, I already knew the method of holding down the button but that never works. I tried over 30 times. Dell computers always does this and sometimes I manage to fix this stuff but I can’t. I was just playing games on it till it told me to charge it. I was finishing something up then it turned off, I went to plug it up and usually it charges really quick but no it stayed on a black screen and I can’t do anything about it. I don’t think it’s the charger because when I charge it when it’s not dead it works. This is the first time this happend. I don’t like how Dell made their computers, they need to fix up stuff.
