How to Fix Discord Stuck on a Gray or Black Screen [Still Works on 2024]

Steps:
1. Go to "run" (Window key + R)
2. Type "%appdata%" and hit enter
3. Delete the "Discord" folder or the "Cache" folder inside Discord folder
4. Launch the Discord app
Stuck on discord's frozen gray screen? This video shows you how to fix this problem. This problem basically started after a new update. If this video did not solve your problem, you may need to uninstall and reinstall discord. But there are some other fixes on reddit too, so you may check them before uninstalling the app.

If you cannot delete the folder, go to windows task manager and stop discord from there. If you cannot find discord in the *Process* tab, go to *Details* tab and stop discord from there.

it is in feb of 2020 they were not monitoring their servers which caused java errors crashing black screens and of course this! hopefully the video helped you if not it should be getting resolved later in 2021! best of luck to you brother

I'm so happy Discord finally opened! Cause first it said "update 1 of 5", but then that 5 changed into a 13, then an error appeared (x2). After that i had to do it all over again. And now it finally opened. Thanks!

If there's any issue with deleting the folder, use Ctrl Alt Delete and Task manager to make sure Discord isn't running as a "sleeping" tab after closing. Thank you for such a quick fix for this issue and for updating the title with the current year to help easily find such a helpful guide!!!

You've only cleared Discord's cache, so none of the app files are gone. You may have deleted the wrong files if you've deleted discord data.

I tried deleting Discord completely off my computer and it worked so give that a try.. You can just log back in at any time.
