I thought I was going to have to try to sand the door down where it was catching. I've watched a few videos and this was the best by far. Took me about 5 minutes and now the problem is completely solved. Thanks for teaching me a new life skill. 😁
This worked great on a new hinge that was causing the door to catch. I thought I was going to have to plane the frame or chisel behind the hinge, but this took care of the problem in minutes!
Thanks for the video! This is exactly what I was looking for. I tore up one of the hinges, thinking I knew how to do it, so I had to go and buy two new hinges. blOne still had to be adjusted. Keep the videos coming! I appreciate it.
Dude, i tried all those other retro fixess like putting screws into the jamb behind the hinge and even on the latch side, and nothing worked - watch your vid and I fixed it in under 5 minutes Thanks bud ! You earned yourself a sub ! I love fixes like this
Didn't fix my issue because apparently I've got bigger/different problems... BUT, great video! Super thankful for folks like you who want to share knowledge! Keep them coming!
Thanks for the many Great tips. We are moving from our home of 25 years and between packing boxes, I need to fix several things for our buyer but wasn't sure about the best or most time productive way to do it. If I can accomplish these tasks, it will allow my hubby to handle the bigger things that I'm not strong enough to do. Glad I found your videos.
Thanks for this video, but can I get your help. I just purchased a home and the door is hitting the frame. I noticed they have big huge bolts in the hinges instead of screws. Can this be repaired?
They probably have big holes on the frame. Best thing to do is move hinges up or down. Don't put them on the same spot, that way you can use the proper screws
Thank you so much for this video! We had tried a million different things to stop this from happening. Installing new doors to all of our house and you might just of saved us hours.
Can't believe you didn't make them all straight. If I paid someone to go to my house I'd want it done right not work for now. I do hope you fixed it after this video. 😢
Unfortunately, this method didn't work for me. What did work was putting in a screw above the hinge and below the hinge. I also put a screw in the latch side at the top. The screws were able to pull the frame enough to allow the door to open and close freely. It still rubs a tiny bit on the top but it's way better than it was before. I still have to paint my door so I'm going to sand some extra off where it sticks since I have to sand the door anyways before I paint. That should help as well. Great video though. I think this method is solid, it just didn't work with my new door and hinges.
thanks for the video! Short and sweet description, no bs and it actually works! Quick question - how did you take that pin off those hinges? What kind of screw driver was that ?
I really want to try this but maintenance have painted all over the hinges in the apartment. The pin is literally stick on the hinge with paint 💀. All our doors don't close properly and maintenance take forever to come out to fix anything.
I've got a solid door (75+ lbs.) that rubs just like the one in your video, but on the hinge side, there's no gap at all between the door and the frame. All screws into both the door and the frame are rock solid tight. Any suggestions? I was thinking I might just have to pull the door all the way off and sand or plane it down?
Try putting longer screws on the frame side of the hinges so that the screw catches the rough framing and it pulls the door frame towards the framing. Goid luck
I don't know if you speak or understand Spanish, but look at this video I did about that a while back. Hopefully this helps 🙏 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9BXJ-7GA6k0.html
I took the pin out and moved it toward the opening corner door and it still is hitting the trim . U need to show more doors and not brand new looking doors
Screws are all tight, they do not seem to be spinning when turned. As for the hinge knucles, how do I know which direction to turn? Is it always to the right? Trying not to have to hire a handyman to fir this fix. Thanks....
So my door will only close half way because it get stuck at the top about half way starting on the side closer to the hinge side ...Not sure if that makes sense. But because of that...the door will not close at all no matter how much I push. I’m thinking I need to spread the bottom hinge and “ squeeze” the top hinge ? So basically bottom needs to be pushed closer toward the handle while the top needs to be moved closer to the hinge side . Can you help!
It would be opposite of that. Pulling the bottom hindge towards the frame would lower the the knob side of the door.... but you could also shim the top hinge (probably easier) out. The problem may be that someone put longer screws on the top hinge and pulled it further to the rough framing and now the door is not lining right with the frame.
Question, if you've replaced the hinges on a door where this was happening and the problem returns a few weeks later then what do you try? Because there's a few doors at my house where we replaced the hinges and now 3 weeks later some of the doors are fine while the others have had the problem return. The screws are all tight and the hinges are only 3 weeks old.
You may have to change the screws on the frame side. If you put 2 1/2 inch screws that go past the frame and grab the frame behind it. This will give a stronger hold.
@@MaintenanceManNarratives I have 3 inch screws and it's still a problem... pretty sure the guy who installed them had a rough time with them. I was probably 12 or 13 when he did them and now I'm 25 and trying to help my dad out. For a guy who does hydraulic equipment repair I never thought I'd have to explain door hinges to him but here we are... He just thought that they were all contacting towards the top because the "frames expand and contract a lot" Anyways lol the TLDR: I used 3 inch screws on the trouble doors with new hinges and they're still messed up.
🤔.. even new hinges need adjustment. They may come really separated. Also if the door is to heavy you may need heavy duty hinges. And another problem may be that the holes were the screws catch may be to loose or worn out. By simply knotching the door and frame hindge slot a half inch down or up you can slide the hindge so that your screws have a stronger hold.
@@MaintenanceManNarratives Good call, I can definitely tell that on a few of the doors the top hinges had 1-2 holes that simply stripped. Additionally they are all solid core and pretty heavy. If I was a betting man I'd say you're probably right about the heavy duty hinges. Thanks for all the help! I'm gonna give all this a try, fingers crossed haha
