Great tip! I hate Babysitting till epoxy is to that stringy state, but if you want professional results sacrifices must be made.

Great tip Nathan, I am wondering after you have done your flood coat and your resin is dried and completely cured. How hard will the table top become, like scratch resistant, heat resistance ect. Thx matekeep up the good work
@GoodViewWoodworks
@GoodViewWoodworks 4 года назад
It will be scratch and heat resistant however if you really want it to be scratch resistant I would suggest adding a harder finish like polyaspartic Or StoneCoat Countertops ultimate topcoat

I did this, but I have another problem now. The tacky residue from the tape is stuck on the epoxy and it is a pain to get rid of it. Rubbing alcohol and dishwashing detergent is not doing the trick. How do I fix this?

What is the best way to finish if I have to sand the drips off?
@sbb526
@sbb526 Год назад
How would you do this method with a small piece like a charcuterie board? In your video you have a huge advantage from the weight of the table, so you don't have to worry about it sliding around as you rip off the tape
@GoodViewWoodworks
@GoodViewWoodworks Год назад
One way would be to, tape a mixing cup to the bottom so that you have simmering to hold on to. Then you can pull the tape. The other way would be to leave the bottom edge with a sharp corner. Then even the epoxy fully cures you can pull the tape off while handling the piece. Hope this makes sense
@sbb526
@sbb526 Год назад
@@GoodViewWoodworks that's a good idea. wish I could post a picture, I just took the tape off mine when it was a thick honey consistency, and it almost stretched the epoxy on the bottom edge and now has like a wavy look to it on the bottom edge. I took the tape off 10 to 20 minutes after I saw the last drip fall, not sure what I did wrong or how to prevent this

I have made a few holes in a piece of wood which I will be pouring resin but how do I stop the resin from going underneath the wood when I fill the holes.

What if you have a 11” round lazy Susan you are coating. Should I round over both the top and bottom edge surfaces? What is the best way to tape an 11” circular piece without getting a jagged line where they meet?
@GoodViewWoodworks
@GoodViewWoodworks 3 года назад
Great question! Pinstriping tape works well.
@katherine_dogsRlife
@katherine_dogsRlife 2 года назад
How would you remove the tape from a small item that you have to handle in order to get the tape off, like a coaster etc? I hva eto wait till it's cured enoguh to handle without marking, but the tape takes off bits of the resin and it looks messy on the edges.
@healingjourneys4241

I hope you see this. How do you fix an area where the tape pulled off the base coat of paint/primer? The pour is beautiful but there are a few areas where the tape took off the paint 🎨. I’m a beginner so it m unsure what I did wrong. This is my first pour and it’s over wood for a table in my van.

Any tips for what to do when you pull the tape off (mine was substantially more cured than this in the video) and get a couple drops anyway? Is sanding my only option?
@GoodViewWoodworks
@GoodViewWoodworks 3 года назад
Great question. The answer however is not so great because, yes, sanding is the way to go.

@GoodViewWoodworks

Leyder Ness you will have to sand them off.

Apply a little heat with a heat gun, work through the drips slowly with a putty knife, then sand it. Its a little easier then straight sanding the drips.

When your doing “what u call flood coat “ what product are cm you using. I have seen people using a wax finish but my piece will be out side so any wax is no good. Any recommendations on what to use
@GoodViewWoodworks
@GoodViewWoodworks 4 года назад
A flood coat is a 1/8” finish coat of epoxy. There is a product called polyaspartic that would be better to use if the piece will be out side. You can check it out at www.diyepoxy.com

Love your videos. My son used epoxy on our wood counter tops, the tops look great but our cat jump on one side and left cat prints. How do we get them out? The edges have ripples and some feel like they didn't get enough epoxy on them, can we fix them and how? This is the first time using epoxy. I wanted wood counter tops and wanted something that would protect them. Please help don't know what to do.

Sorry about that. To fix then you need to sand them off then apply more epoxy or sand and buff until it’s glossy again.
