Today's video features some new music by the artist Unfound. I'd like to make music more prominent in my videos, but I still consider myself new at video making, so I don't want to mix the audio with the music being too loud. It's louder in this video, and could probably be even louder. Let me know your thoughts. Links to the included music, and Unfound's Bandcamp: Unfound -- Without: www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqOlh... This is from an old game that ILM helped with. It was called Star Wars Rebellion. In it TIE's and TIE Interceptors cost the same to maintain and about the same to produce. TIE defenders cost about 2.67 to produce and about 2 times to maintain than a TIE Interceptor. But the TIE Defender was way more effective than TIE Interceptors. TIE Interceptors were good on attack, but could be quickly overwhelmed by Rebel Fighters. TIE Defenders were good on attack and defense, and could take a lot of punishment (their shields were the strongest of any fighter in the game).

I think the exclusion of Venetors is one of the greatest flaws in Imperial fleet makeups. The Quasar seems like a cheaper alternative to what at one point was classified as a capital-ship class vessel but honestly, an Imperial fleet made up of two Venetors for every ISD would much more succinctly question even large Rebel fleets, due to star fighter numbers alone. Another issue that would supremely fix Imperial superiority and escort fleets is a complete revamp of their star fighters. The entire dogma of “bigger is better” is the reason Imperial fleets are so inferior to even a comparable CIS fleet. Tactical ommand capabilities asside, I’d much rather have a Lucrehulk with a small CIS support fleet over any standard Imperial fleet exlusively for the fighter superiority. The ARC-170s were big and bulky but a multi-purpose ship like that seems right up the Imperial alley. Light bombing, anti-dog fighting (rear mounted cannons), highly specialised recon, and the capability to traverse hyper-space make them one of the objectively best fighters in my opinion. I also think the strange lack of corvettes and other smaller ships is important. Your inclusion of Raiders is an idea I’ve always wondered about since BF2. With (small) hangars and the absolutely disgusting amount of anti-fighter weapons seems like the perfect make up of a lightning strike ship. Having an entire superiority fleet pop up will stop anything from moving forward and the ability ot launch a large squadron of anti-fighter ships close to the enemy would make Thrawn-like maneuvers easy for any Imperial officer.

They were designed and built for slugging it out between themselves and other destroyers and larger, and were not designed at all to counter snubfighters and asymmetrical warfare. @johnusas2870
@johnusas2870 5 лет назад
I agree place a Venator with an ISD and few Corvettes and you have a perfect fleet, even just an ISD with a Venator. You have the ISD with all the firepower able to protect the Venator and deal with any capital ships. Then you have the Venator with it's massive Starfighter complement. You send a regular patrol squad out around the ISD/ sector, far out enough to screen against the enemy but not too far that they can't fall back to protect the ISD from rebel bombers. This the Venator protects the ISD; we see in Rogue one and ISD taken out of action due to Rebel Y-Wings due to a lack of anti-starfighter weapons. Even if you leave a Venator with it's original complement of Starfighters the numbers as well as cost savings of not having to build a new ship and it's Starfighters complement is worth it alone. We know TIE fighter pilots were the best of the best just held back due to the terrible design of the TIE fighter; put them in the ARC-170, Z-95, V-wings, or even an Actis. Just think if the empire used this set up alone the rebellion would have had a much harder if not impossible time overthrowing the empire.

Just wanna share the standard Imperial fleet I always had in my mind, fairly cheap but flexible enough imo 1 Star Destroyer as the flagship 2-4 Arquitens Cruisers as the main support ships because they have a balanced mix between turbo lasers and point defense cannons while also carrying 3-10 star fighters along with torpedo tubes depending on the variant Around 4-6 Raider II Corvettes because they're great corvettes and served their role well 1 Gladiator as the main carrier. The official stats says that it can only carry around 24 fighters but this is most likely an uneducated guess considering it's literally 600 meters long and 126 meters high. Also the fact that it's inside is nearly 99% hangar it makes the official count of 24 starfighter seem like a typo, maybe it was meant to be 240? Metanerdz Lore has done a breakdown on how many starfighter it can actually carry so I'll take his guess of around 220 starfighters(not considering the ceiling mounted TIE-Fighter racks which could easily double or triple this number) a much more acceptable amount of fighter compliment 1 Interdictor Class Star Destroyer for obvious reasons I tried to make it as small as possible since we see most of the time that Star Destroyers often travel alone or just in groups of 3 so I hope this would explain why I used so few ships If I have to go even smaller then I'll go with 1 Star Destroyer as the flagship 3 Arquitens cruisers as anti-everything but capital ships. This will be pushing the capabilities of my cruisers but hey, they have 8 point defense cannons, 8 light turbo lasers, 4 missile tubes and 3-10 starfighter you can't go more cheap and versatile than that especially for a light cruiser 2 Raider II corvettes, I feel like I'm stretching it by adding this two corvettes but if I can this will definitely be great ships to have in my fleet

I just did my own rough calculations to prove this gladiator comment wrong because I thought 200+ ties sounded ridiculous, but after 20 minutes of scale calculations (+guesstimating), angular formulas, and getting rough volumetric data- I found that you’re completely correct, and 24 was probably supposed to be 240* I accounted for everything- like the hanger height not being nearly as high as the total height, how that height lowers as it goes towards the mouth of the hanger, (estimates on height of rear hanger to height of front hanger, and then triangle formula to solve height-depression), and then I even accounted for tie volume filling up hanger volume while discounting ample space around each tie to account for realistic spacing and other operations/equipment/stuff in the hanger I friggin blew 20 minutes just to tell you that mathematically, the gladiator can definitely hold 220-240 ties, if not even more Low key a little mad too but bravo sir 😂🙏🏻

I know I'm extra late to this, but any fleet that involves one or more Venators is good enough for me. They might not be the best ship, but I think they're very underrated and are very useful when placed with other ships. Plus, like you said, they are a carrier too, I doubt you could fit any AT-ATs within them, but once again, as you mentioned, this job would likely be given to the ISD instead and would allow the Venator to carry fighters instead and a lot of them at that, plus with a seemingly easy to access hangar, they'd be easy to deploy and easy to land into incase they needed to retreat. Though their defence capability isn't as good as the ISD, I feel it would still give any opponent a good fight.

What about the Imperial strike -class cruiser? It is also sometimes referred to as the imperial strike cruiser. These were meant to be both cheap and modular, while supporting at least 2 squadrons of fighters. Fast and capable of taking on most capital ships except ISDs (where you might need 2-3). The only real downside is that the ship itself looks like an elongated white poo. But poo aesthetic aside... its a good ship. And what about dreadnaughts, especially for the support fleet? They are old, but sturdy and cheap!

I think you could make the Victory Star Destroyer the capital Ship of the Fleet and put some ISD‘s in strategic/key locations from where they could quickly reinforce the smaller Fleets with the Victorys, because the empire always dictated capital Ship size. Also replace the Tie fighter of possible.

Assuming I can refit the ships to have a similar hyperdrive rate and sunlight speed, I would do 1 ISD, 1 victory, and one venator as my core, a pair of interdictors as support, and a pair of quasars as support, 4 nebulon B, and fill the rest of the complement with raiders and cr90s. For small craft, the quasars would be assigned wings of gunships, the ISD would be assigned its standard endor complement as to include interceptors and bombers and the venator would be assigned a wing of arc 170s, a wing of defenders and the standard ties to fill out the rest.

Your fleet composition is good, Ecks, but I'll go a little further than your idea. If I were to create a usable battle fleet that's used for general purpose operations centering around an ISD, it'd be this: 1 ISD (Mark II model) 3 Victory SDs 2 Venator SDs 6 Vindicator Heavy Cruisers 1 Interdictor Cruiser 8 Carrack Cruisers 4 Imperial Raider II-Class 5 Heavy Nebulon Cruisers All fightercraft will be shielded TIE interceptors and Howlrunners (this is an improvement over the TIE l/n models), Skipray blastboats, and TIE Defenders. If a ground invasion is needed, I think the following ships can be included if needed. I believe these should be under the control of the Imperial Army and have a say on ground operations when needed. A small flotilla of Imperial Army ships ought to be based on Army-controlled starbases keyed to certain sectors where they're best needed. This way, it'll free up the Imperial Navy to do more deep space operations, increase starfighter and tactical bomber capacity. An Army flotilla is under the command of a colonel or a brigadier general if a larger force is needed while starbases can be under the command of a high general. 4-12 Acclamator Class 3-4 Venator SDs 2-3 Victory SDs (Mark I models only) 6-12 Imperial Raider IIs 12-16 Marauder Corvettes (for special forces insertions) Is this overkill? Yes but a fleet like this can counter the Rebellion with a combination of speed, flexibility, and overwhelming brute force.
@Deepingmind
@Deepingmind 5 лет назад
Not really overkill, you're sticking to the point of an active response fleet. While Eck was working more around a capital ship (flag) squadron which is having a single flag level ship and then figuring its escort. What you came up with is much more viable as a living fleet of flag ships. That being said, for the same costs of your Nebs and Carracks you could take along instead another Ven and two Vindicators and four more raiders. Giving you a much better overall combat ability and screening for roughly the same price and crew. Meaning each of your Vics and Vens could have a dedicated escort of a Vindicator and Raider, and your ISD-2 can have a pair of Vindicators and Raiders. With your Interdictor safely hiding right in the middle.
@jaymikevillanueva1212
@jaymikevillanueva1212 5 лет назад
@@Deepingmind Oh man, I didn't think of that but that is a very good point. The active response fleet I came up could be broken in to smaller squadrons to overwhelm an enemy fleet (or at least a flotilla). Having reread my response, I can see what you mean by a fleet of having multiple flagships. This means greater flexibility and more tactics. I suppose this is something Thrawn would appreciate than most admirals of the Imperial Navy. But what if there's more tacticians like Thrawn? I wonder if they'd utilize active response fleets than just rely on the Tarkin Doctrine.
@Deepingmind
@Deepingmind 5 лет назад
@@jaymikevillanueva1212 You had a good design ideal to start with so it was an easy amendment to recommend. Where Tarkin focused too much on larger ships, you focused a bit too much on smaller ships. That balance, which was so vital to Thrawn, is where true fleet superiority comes from The ability to respond to any threat including multiple threats since you now have a more responsive fleet design.
@jaymikevillanueva1212
@jaymikevillanueva1212 5 лет назад
@@Deepingmind I don't discount the use of larger capital ships and star dreadnoughts, like an Assertor, Bellator or even an Executor class. They have their uses at the right opportunity when needed. If anything, I'd assign them as back up heavy response forces to back up your usual active response fleet when you need a bigger hammer to crack a very tough nut. I also believe Star Dreadnaughts could be used either as part of a defense in key planets to deter large scale invasions while certain classes can be used as mobile flagship for a much larger battle group where smaller key flagship can be attached to and break off from when given a specific missions. This is akin to Death Squadron and battle groups like this are a symbol of Imperial might. I still believe a lot can be done with just numerous active fleet response forces and they could be far more economical and effective than the Tarkin Doctrine - a doctrine that produced more incompetent fleet admirals, captains, and moffs than truly effective leaders. Heck, even my idea allows the Imperial Army to take a greater role than just being a lapdog under the Imperial Navy. This allows the Navy to be free to do more deep space missions while the Army can be serving as the anvil in key areas AND be a sledgehammer when needed.
@Deepingmind
@Deepingmind 5 лет назад
@@jaymikevillanueva1212 I'm not implying that you would, however they wouldn't be a "standard ship of the line" since you would have very very very limited numbers of them. Strike cruisers are also very effective I find for capital ship support. So I keep many smaller support ships and carriers in reserve as reinforcements as well if possible. But the key is yes have effective powerful ships but screened and supported by the smaller vessels and overwhelm with endless fighters while bombers take out the enemy capital ship strong points as the enemy line begins to open up to your assault.

I think that the Rendili StarDrive light corvette, or Imperial Customs Frigate, is an under-utilized starship that would be great for escort duties. Used almost entirely by the Imperial Customs Bureau, it had firepower and speed, the forked prow designed to hold light freighters for easier inspection with tractor beam projectors and sensors built in so that the Marines would know what they were walking into. When the ICB was folded into the Navy the admirals didn't know what to make of it, which is a waste. Mission specific modules could be fitted into the gap between the prows, making the light corvette very versatile. It could serve as a torpedo gunboat, troop carrier, picket carrier (holding up to 8 TIE fighters, or similar craft), or even a medical/EVA retrieval ship. A number of these ships, perhaps supported by a Venator to carry the modules, could cover any number of mission profiles. With a standard crew of less than 60, I think they'd make for a superior support ship over the Raider-class. My information is based on the WEG Star Wars RPG from the late '80's and some fan edits I saw on Pinterest.

Not sure how I stumbled across this but I know that "back in the day" I'd often craft my fleets with two major considerations in mind going beyond role: hyperdrive rating and sublight speed. If you're trying to keep a fleet together in Star Wars then having a class 1 hyperdrive when the other ships are class 2 doesn't help much unless you're supposed to arrive before the rest of the fleet. Depending on what sources you used a rapid reaction fleet would all have the class 1 hyperdrive so it could quickly get to where it needed to be Sublight speed is the other consideration as you do want your major combat ships to keep up with each other. I'd be less concerned about the speed of support ships like escort carriers who can still be helpful despite not being in the thick of things. One ship I think is missing in this video is the Imperial Strike Cruiser. Back in the day it was a workhorse ship that could easily keep up with an ISD even if it didn't have the firepower, capacity, durability, or cost but could be used on other capacities.

I'm particularly fond of Gladiators, they are kinda light on turbolasers but they have respectable point defense lasers and stronk af anti capital ship missiles. Their light carrying capacity of starfighters is fine because they can augment the ISD and Quasar Fire's fighters wherever they are needed. Also, don't forget that Gozanti cruisers can be great for light escort duties for freighters but they are far too slow for superiority fleets.

I would drop the Enforcer for two more Carracks, two more Nebulon-Bs, and a quartet of Arquitens. You'll need to screen your Venator, ESPECIALLY if it is hanging back. Assign two Arquitens and two Nebulon-Bs to defend the Venator. Position your Raiders as a picket/scout force, with CR-90s closer in. The two remaining Nebulons would take position midway to the ISD, with the Carracks and Arquitens closer aboard. Conversely, you could also create a flying wedge ahead of you.

The main issue with the isd is that it is a ship of the line meant to fight other capital ships. Its best used along side other star destroyers(even if they are victory) with a few support ships. The standard 3 isd fleet we see is actually very vell set up for what it was designed for. The best fix I think would be to add a venator or two to provide bomber support as well as fighter screens. The isd hangers should be only used for air to ground transport and defense. A few corvettes and frigates are also good for screening fighters and pursuing the smaller rebel ships. A fleet like that could be used to hold down a small system with the help of smaller planetary fleets based more around carriers like the quasar.

I never considered the idea of Venators as part of the imperial fleet. It sounds awesome.

Random admiral: versatility is a key to victory! Fire power isn't everything! Malos Vrykan: ahem-ahem. Same admiral: on the other hand, only cucks would deny the inevitable: fire power is superior to everything.

Eckhart, How about having a slightly modified ISD as command ship (more TL moved to ventral side + additional CIWS type mounts). I like the idea of the Venator, but as you said, a CVE (escort carrier) of an Acclamator would probably be better here(smaller, more nimble)… reduce TL to 8 instead of 12 + CIWS LC in those locations. A Vindicator heavy cruiser for the 3rd capital ship. 4 DP-20 gunships. 3 Marauder corvettes. 2 Nebulon-B. 1 Carrack. For escort fleet, I’d do 1 Gladiator as flagship. 1 Arquitens light cruiser. 1 Nebulon-B. 3 CR-92a corvettes. 4 DP-20 gunships. 2 GAT-12 Blastboats.

Fleet’s and space tactics are the video’s I am hunting right now and I am again excited to find myself watching an Eckhart video.

ISD with 2 Victory II. Each Vic with 2 Carracks and 1 Enforcer. 2 Venator each with 4 Lancers. Each Venator replaces 1/4 of its fighters with gunships. All the fighters on the ISD are space superiority fighters. 19 capital ships total.

I think in terms of anti-capital ship support the Arquitens is great, we see in rebels that a couple of them can throw off a fleet of blockade runners, which I mean if THE blockade runner can't run a blockade of them then that says a lot. I think serving a role of picking off the smaller support ships while the ISD focuses down their capital ship would work well, every second the star destroyer isn't shooting the enemies main ship is another second for them to gain advantage.

For the most part I agree with your choices. Though I might also include a Pelta class as a fuel / supply ship.

To truly fix the Imperial fleet, you would have to do more than just re-organize capital ships; you would have to do something about the Empire's fighters as well. I would replace the TIE/LN with the TIE Hunter (a more versatile ship that was specifically designed to counter the X-Wing) and replace the TIE/SA Bomber with the TIE Scimitar, which seems to be designed to fill a similar fighter-bomber role to that of the Y-Wing.

If we are on a budget and want an ISD II as the point of a vee/wedge shaped formation fleet, I would prefer to have the following from Thrawn's Revenge: 1 ISD Mk II - Anti-Capital Ship Duty/Tank that draws all the aggro serving as the point of the formation in order to serve its noble purpose as Turbolaser soak and all round enemy damage sponge...hey its big enough to draw a lot of attention to itself so why not use that to our advantage? 2+ Pairs of Dreadnaught Class Cruisers - Anti-frigate/corvette duty/Fire-support (stationed behind and to either side of the ISD II 2+ Pairs of Carrack Cruisers - Anti-shield duty/Fire-support 4+ Pairs of Lancer "Frigates" - Anti-starfighter picket ship stays behind ISD and "Dreadnaught" "Cruisers" 4-8 Ton-Falk Class Escort Carriers - Early Game TIE Swarms Launch Duty (all the way in the back of the fleet formation as far from the actual fight as possible) or as many TIE Defenders as possible...Replace Escort Carriers with as many T/Ds as fits within your budget as soon as possible...

on one of your other videos you mentioned about republic artillery being fitted onto venators... if the empire did that with the venators complimenting the ISD's then they could seriously wound mon cala sheilds in a short time if fighters were kept off them and the other anti-capital ships

Honestly I would have added a couple of Arquitens Class Light Cruisers to the fleet along with a few Gozanti Class ships as well.

I heard an interesting argument for why Star Destroyers are so ridiculously designed. Star Wars canonically has 1970s future tech, their sensors were relatively bad and even less reliable in battles due to jamming and ion weapons, meaning that these big bridges are necessary to see what’s going on in a battle. Shield bubbles are stupid though

We’re fully aware of how Palpatine wanted to remove the memories of the past, the Jedi & the Old Republic. Hence, I wouldn’t go with the Old Republic’s version of the Venator, just a different redesign of the bridge, engines, & the removal of the side hangars. Same with the Acclamators, bridge, engines, & it’ll keep what made this ship work & such.
