Thank you so much for this! The drift on our family's switch had my son worrying for a while, but we saved a lot of money and time in the end because of this!
I've had my switch for two years, and they have been drifty since about two months in. I tried compressed air, but it did'nt work. I finally have usable joycons thanks to this video!
This worked amazingly - you don't need to push the q-tip even that far in, you can be very gentle with it if you're afraid of hurting the joycon and it still works
i saw a couple people say this tip too and was skeptical at first but decided to try it out. Completely fixed my drift, it was so bad before but it works perfectly and is not longer effecting my games :) thank you so so much
1 year later and this video is still helping people. Had unplayable joy-con drift for months, was avoiding buying new controllers BUT I just simply cleaned the sensors like you said and their back like new 💪🏾‼️ thanks for the info
Found this video years ago when my joy-con started drifting again a few months after Nintendo "fixed" it. (They replaced some parts due to wear and tear.) Did this once and haven't had any drift issues since. I still recommend this video to people when the subject of joy-con drift comes up. It may not help with mechanical failures, but it's quick and easy enough to be worth a try!
Did you actually make a whole 3D model of a joycon stick just for us ? Now where is that subscribe button ? Edit : wow, 1000 likes. Okay. Thanks everyone ! I do random shitpost on another account, look for "Stupid French Bear". Also, this thread went from 0 to 100 in like three answers, wtf happened ?
@RS1 he's using tinkercad, which is the simplest of the 3D modeling softwares available, just drag and drop shapes. not saying I'm not impressed he took the time to make it (unless he found one already modeled, which is quite possible), but it's very basic software---anyone can use it, and that's the beauty of it!
@@Joestorm2000 honestly they should have released a 3ds with the design of the new 2dsxl, the 3ds slider could uave gone in the opposite direction of the volume bar and that would be perfect
it’s work!!! , i guess there are stains stuck in that point . Your clean with alcohol is work. PS : I’m live in hot zone region then sweat and stain are in this point.
Even if this was 2 years ago it helped me so much, after all the days struggling how to fix the joycon drift wihout tools, it's finally better and more comfortable to play games wihout joycon drifting
I mean if you're not the type of a coward who is like "nooo I'm too scared to open up hardware and try to fix it" they're easy enough to fix even with tools. People buy new things instead of trying to fix them too much nowadays... The isopropyl alcohol method isn't 100% fool proof sadly.
You could literally contact Nintendo about the controller and you just have to send the controller in a zip bag then put it in a box, then they will fix it for you for free instead of buying a bunch of Joy-Cons.
I did this to both pairs of my joycons and my girlfriends joycons and it actually fixed the problem. For how long is to be determined but it’s better than having to take them apart or buying new ones.
Thank you so much for this!! I was able to clean my joycons that I had when I first got my switch in 2017. They haven't worked in over a year and now they feel almost new! My newest pair were starting to act up so I cleaned them too and they're both perfect. Really appreciate the video and the effort you put in to help everyone
@YoPetNamedSteve Gaming Maaan, I'm not even close to finishing Regular mode myself Lol I hear Master Mode is no pushover too. I can imagine what awaits me, once i start that mode
Oh my god thank you so much; I got an Amazon Gift Card for Christmas, and I don't have a lot of money to my name, so I thought I'd have to use a good chunk of it for a new set of joycons for my Switch console. This method sounded too good to be true- but it WORKS! My character finally stands STILL! You just saved me a lot of cash and time, I really appreciate you putting this together. :D
Me in Splatoon 2: There is a person right in front of me and I need to splat him! My Right Joycon: Nah man, we're gonna fling this flingza roller in the sky
I was hesitant to use this method just because smearing a liquid under the joy con seemed strange to me but it actually worked so well. I nearly teared up after all my frustrations disappeared. I avoided anything switch related just because of the drifting, now that it's gone I'm so excited to finally start using my switch again, thank you so much I really didn't want to buy another joy con.
Omg! My cons started to drift a couple of weeks ago, and I thought I would have to put appart the damn thing. This trick worked like charm! Thank you so much!!!!
Hey people! If you're having a problem, where when you turn turn left or right or any direction it is really weak and can't do it. While watching this video I tried to take the top plastic round off but didn't work but it did fix my joy cons. Now I can't guarantee this will work but it's worth a try it worked for me. Pull it upwards with some force and then try it. Thank you for reading this comment.
Finally, I can play Minecraft and not keep looking down when I'm trying to build. Thank you. (what's funny is that I was going to take apart the joy con before I decided to watch a tutorial first, would've destroyed it!)
Given the length of the video I thought this was gonna be a joke, but no this is the real deal. Also am I the only one who’s yet to experience this sort of drift?
My guess is that the manufacturing of each Joy-Con is done in more than one facility, so it’s like with computer components, in that you may get lucky and not experience any issues with the Joy-Cons at all, or you might experience issues after a few days of using them. I do also think it depends on the type of games that people play and how much wear and tear a certain type of game will put on the sticks.
I was skeptical at first, but I tried it on my 2 pairs of joy cons. I tried it first on my joy cons that had the worst joy con drift (the ones that made it very unplayable). OH MY GOD IT WORKED 🤯 I was able to play with no problems. Also it felt so nice. Thank you, you deserve a sub 👍 You saved me from wasting money on buying new joy cons ^^
This worked like a charm for me, my joy on was almost unusable and I fixed it in about 35 minutes. 5 minutes rubbing and 30 minutes waiting for it to dry. Great tip 👍👍👍
Alright, I tried this, it didn’t work. I tried it again, didn’t work. Tried it again.. worked. But now my joycon can’t click its joystick :/. Please be cautious when you do this..
Omg it work 😅, I used a 99% alcohol, please be careful since is highly flammable and might irritate skin, but I use it on all my controllers and I can feel the difference right away! I was about to buy new ones 🥲
@@Dillon69 well guess what? I sent it to them for repairs and they returned it to me super quick. I was suspicious and tested out and they practically ruined my joycons more and more
@@Retromanamama I do too, I get that it's a problem if you DO screw it up, but people should take better care of their controllers. Especially if you have a collection and every single joycon is experiencing drift. People broke the switch lite 2 days after it came out
@@Andres-lv8wi eh XBOX not really, I haven’t really had the problem with XBOX remotes, the only big pro twitch XBOX remotes being the fact they are extremely fragile and parts break easily like the fact I can’t play COD of Battlefield because by left joystick press down ain’t working
Never mind I was thinking drifting was something else I’ve seen with other remotes but now the XBOX, but yeah drifting is a big problem with all of them remotes
I have a Switch Lite and I can confirm this works just as well on it. You seriously have saved me from going insane because of the joycon drift, thank you so much! 😊
Zelda player Have you tried playing an RPG like Pokémon or Dragon Quest with them? Literal nightmare. If I ever make an RPG game, I will make an alternate control scheme that doesn’t use the analogue sticks, as a precaution as menu selecting is not fun to do with drift.
Everyone: “calibrate your joy-con” Me: “you honestly think I can do that, the whole reason I came here is because my joy-cons physically will not take inputs and physical movements as a directive command”
And the worse version of that is when people tell you to just go buy new joy-cons. Like, DO PEOPLE KNOW HOW EXPENSIVE A NEW JOY-CON IS?! AND WHAT IF THAT ONE DRIFTS TOO?!
@@cret273 I lifted the rubber with a toothpick, and then I held the controller upside down and blew hard into the base of the thumbstick while rotating it, first time didn't help but the second try fixed my drifting.
Or me in Skyrim: alright, let's sell this piece of junk to the NPC... My left Joycon: Oh you meant your precious weapon just above? Got it! Even my Pro Controller drifts... But not nearly as bad. But to a different direction. Left Joycon goes up pretty hard and Left Pro Controller stick goes mildly down. 😓 Back in the day they made everything last a lifetime and then some... But of course, that's not good business and Nintendo fucking knows it. Unrelated, but I HAD to look for a specific mouse that didn't have those cheap piece of crap Omron switches in them like 99% of the mise on the market. And finally got a piece of mind. No double clicks. They'd cost literally nothing to the companies and people would be a lot happier.
youre my savior i had such terrible drift and could barely play most of my games!!! this pretty much fixed it (i ended up using a bobby pin with an isopropyl alcohol wipe on it and it seems to have worked!)
Echo imagine hating on someone because of what they enjoy and like as a hobby or just general morale booster. couldn’t be me, that’s like someone saying “yeah i like uh trains, trains are my favorite thing to watch” and you screaming “ARE YOU REALLY THAT STUPID TO LIKE TRAINS? DID YOU KNOW THAT EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO LIKES TRAINS ARE TOXIC AND BAD, THATS SO CRINGE MAN!”. just, stop you’re not helping anyone.
Me:trying to wish for shooting stars in animal crossing Nintendo: oh you want to stand still? That's a good one (Also it worked for a few hours then it came back)
I've seen people dig two holes on each side of them except on the opposite side of the drift direction (depending on the direction of the drift) so they are forced to stay still. This way you can't jump over the first hole too.
Same thing happened to me but I discovered that clicking in the stick makes the input snap back and detects inputs properly, but only temporarily. Not sure if this is just me though.
I actually tried this with the original joy-cons, my switch came with, they had a really bad drifting issue. After trying the isopropyl alcohol trick on them, the drift immediately disappeared. Thank you so much.
Just want to say thank you so much, I tried this method a few nights ago on not one but two drifiting right joycons and it fixed both 100%. I asked my son to report any issues with his switch and he said there was no issue whatsoever. You saved me from having to send those back to nintendo to get repaired.
Oh and I just want to add I used a sanitizer that was 70% ethanol, so if you don't have the substance he's talking about, anything that has alcohol or ethanol in should work 💕
Since everyone is memeing down here and nobody makes a feedback i'll do it for you: As for now, it totally works, I'm going to play a bit and tell you if drift eventually occurs again Edit: it worked for a couple of hours and then I had to recalbrate them. Now they work, I suggest you to try Anyway since this Will not damage your joycon, but of this doesnt work you should recalibrate and then drift shouldnt occur anymore 2nd edit: after more than two weeks drift in my left joycon isnt a thing anymore, while my right one still drifts a little, but it's doing it way less than before. I Hope I've been helpful to anybody. 3rd and last update: after 4 months, the right joycon failed completely, because of different hardware issues, while the left one is completely ok! 4th and actual last edit: I recommend to avoid doing so too many times and too often, as a guy below said, with too much alcohol the inner parts could get damaged, and cleaning it too often (in my experience) ended up not making any difference
Have you seen any improvement? I reccomend you to try and clean once more, I cleaned it 3 Times before it worked, also mine aren't perfect now, but cleaning them several Times definetely helped, good luck fixing your drift!
sometimes i can't even jump and i have to do a attack from the right stick just to fix it. and playing undertale with this is a nightmare, especially when you get to undyne.
