If the head on your KitchenAid Artisan counter top stand mixer is jiggling up and down, even when locked, or the mixing attachments are too low and are rubbing against the pitcher, here's the super easy way to fix it.
You have saved my KitchenAid. The only reason I’ve put up with the banging for so long is I couldn’t justify replacing a machine that for all intents and purposes worked - I just had to hold the head down when doing heavy duty mixing. I’ve had it for 16 years, and I don’t remember it ever not bouncing around. It’s fair to say, it now works better than it ever has. You are THE BEST.
This video literally just made my year. My mixer has had this issue for close to a year and i've stopped using it as much because it's tearing up my bowls. I appreciate you taking your time to make this video and informing everyone of such a simple fix for a huge issue we've had. Thank you.
I just did the what you did by thinking it needed to be screwed all the way in! Followed your advice and things are looking totally amazing now! I got my mixer for cheap because of the giggle, I knew I could fix it myself... And now I have what feels like a brand new kitchen aid for $100!
Wow you are a freaking genius! I did the same thing, messed with that set screw a couple of years ago and it’s been bad ever since. Just adjusted it and it solved! Thanks!
Soooo helpful. I'd seen other videos talking about this, but no one had ever explained how the screw was working. I was finally able to fix our mixer because I understood the issue better. Thank you!
I cannot believe it. I have been searching high and low. I knew that screw did something but I never thought a stopper!!! Why they don’t market this in their how to is beyond me. I am so happy my mixer is back to normal again!! Such a small thing but so greatly appreciated 🙌🙌
Fantastic, Just purchased a $20 Kitchenaid at a pawn shop - "as is" because the head would bob up and down. I had tightened it, but it got worse.... and I found your video! So simple, yet so blasted easy to fix. You helped me save over $300 if I bought the mixer new! Thanks again!
Thank you Jay! Same scenario here. My wife was going on about her mixer is broken and the pin was popping out and I saw the screw and had the same Idea. Next time she used it, the mixer was jumping up and down and the lock was loose. You just save me lots of time perhaps even money and made me look like a super handyman!
My brand new Kitchenaid, had this problem and head was jiggling vertically, around half a centimetre. Although I watched the official “dime video” and tried to adjust the screw according to manufacturer’s guidelines, problem was still there. It didn’t occur to me that it was just a stop screw!! After watching your video, all made sense and the fix took less than a minute. Thank you so much!!!
My local small appliance shop closed down years ago. My only fix for this was going to be buying a brand new mixer even though mine was fine other than this wobble. Thank you! You just saved me from wasting a wad of cash!
After watching your video, I finally got the wobble to go away and I shouted for joy.. My 4 year old told me I'm not a real "fixer," that you are, and I'm just a good student. Ha. Many thanks to ending my year-long plight, Mr. Fixer! 😁
Wow! We let our mixer go for a year with this problem and when an attachment broke I finally looked at this video! So simple...the mixer was fixed in about a minute and a half. Thanks
Thank you!!!!!!!!!! I hated my mixer so much because it was “dancing” so much to the point I wanted to throw it out. None of the other videos touched on this issue. This was so easy I can finally have it kneed my dough!!
Jay, you are a genius. I have lived in Ecuador for 7 years. Everything I brought down from the States came down in luggage but one thing I had to leave behind was my Artisan mixer. I missed it a lot and even more so when I got disgusted buying bread at local stores and after realizing the ingredients were not healthy. So, due to the kindness of a friend, I had a new machine transported to Ecuador for me through his import company. Poppy is the queen of my kitchen and she works hard for her keep. She paid for herself over a 2-year period as I make lots of bread. Things were sailing along well until a couple of days ago when I noticed the head was not horizontal and the sudden clanging gave me heart palpitations. Not good at all. I calmed down and put on my rational hat. Yep, I saw that set screw and what do you do with a loose screw? You tighten it. Nope, you don't. It clanged all the more. I had visions of trying to find an Ecuadorian to fix it. And then, I thought of RU-vid and found you. So simple. Thank you for posting the video. I am sure you have saved hundreds of people a lot of frustration and a lot of dough. Pun intended. I will be a new subscriber to see what other smart stuff you share. Thanks, Jay
Thank you!! I bought this mixer at a thrift store today for $40. The only problem is the head goes too far down in the bowl, which may be the reason it was donated. I was going to screw it in farther but I followed your advice and walla! All fixed. So I have a new Kitchensid with all attachments for $40!! And it works perfectly. Thank you!!
My wife was making cookies today and told me the head was wobbling. So I noticed the same thing and did the same thing you did with the same results. Found your video and if you were here right now you'd get fresh cookies. Thanks for sharing this, I owe you a cold one for sure.
I had a same problem and unfortunately was tightening the screw till I saw your video clip. You saved me money for not buying new one. Thank you very much.
Thank you! My wife was asking me to fix her Kitchenaid but I had no clue how😱 not until I watched your video that made everything easier for me! Only thing I did differently I unscrewed the whole motherboard panel to avoid to unplug those little wires. Thanks again
Thank you so much! I was ready to scrap mine after it chunked & clunked so bad. I thought it was going to walk off my decorating table the last time I made icings! You've saved me hundreds on the new mixer & accessories I would have purchased! (I'd have gone to the pro-level/sized mixer after this.) My husband can breathe a sigh of relief now, lol.
I just cannot believe this! Counter intuitive! Spot a loose screw so, of course you tighten it...and make it worse! I just assumed that it must have been something else. It would never have occurred to this bear of very little brain that a loose screw simply needed loosening a bit more! I was toying with the idea of a Kitchenaid service in Belgium at a cost of £150 or throwing it away and buying a new one. Thank you so so much for this video. I am almost speechless in joy at such a simple (and free!) fix! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Thanks! This was the best explanation of how the screw works. The Kitchenaid video doesn't explain it at all. This solved my issue of the bottom of the beater hitting the bowl AND the mixer head bouncing up and down. I have adjusted the hinge pin and was still having this issue. Going counter-clockwise until the lock didn't work and then working my way clockwise in counter turns until the dime moved like the Kitchenaid video. Thank a lot!
THANK YOU. I have been a bread baker for years now. I make artisan dough, which can be heavier and more dense. It challenges my mixer. I always had followed the “dime test” as recommended by KA, but the head just bounced so much I had to put my body weight on it so it wouldn’t walk across the counter. Believe me, I am much happier with a secure head and having to scrape the bottom of the bowl for the rare non-bread job. Just skimming the bottom of the bowl isn’t really an issue with bread dough. Thank you, again!
Thank you so much for this!!!! My mixer started doing this and got progressively worse - - I watched your video and had it fixed in under a minute! I’m thrilled!! Time to make some cookies!!
Embarrassed to admit I have dealt with a wobbly head for over 20 years-I could never fully move the lock leaver forward and always assumed it was defective. Tonight, I saw your video, grabbed a flathead and turned that screw one and a half turns to the right, et voila! Lock leave moves completely forward and head does not wobble anymore. THANK YOU!!!!!
You sir are my hero! The kitchenaid website is so vague and the problem seemed huge, but this is just easy to fix when you explain it with this video. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for posting this video. I was so frustrated with my mixer, it's only 4 years old, I was about to ring a repair place and came across your video. You have saved me time and money. Now I can make my son's brthday cake without holding up the head to stop it damaging the beater.
This is the top Google video result when you search "kitchenaid mixer loose head" this saved me so much time troubleshooting. Had my wife's mixer back up in running in about 5 minutes. Thanks!
Thank you so much!! I thought for years that my mixer was broken, I knew about the screw and how it lowered the attachments, but I didn't know that it adjusted the whole head of the mixer! Because you explained the physics of it so well I realized that the screw was actually the fix that I needed, and lo and behold, it's fixed! I'm going to make so much bread now, thanks again!!
Thanks, here in the U.K., I make bread with ours but it's always had the problem which recently got worse, and the lock did not work. You have saved me going through all that dismantling process - brilliant :) :)
You are THE BEST. KitchenAid Customer service is worthless, total waste of time. A friend referred me to your channel and problem solved. Thank you so much.
THANK YOU so much for this I’d watched countless videos to figure out why the head was bobbing and they all referenced the screw but never said to adjust until it’s locked and won’t move! I had to unscrew mine quite a bit and now it’s secure and doesn’t bobble one bit thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh my gosh, I am so thankful I found this video! Sitting here thinking of how I’m going to make my traditional Christmas cookies for Thanksgiving with my KitchenAid mixer when all it does is wobble like crazy! Well, sure enough, I tightened this exact screw probably two years ago and have just assumed the machine was broken! Found your video, adjusted the screw and WOW! Fixed!! Thank you for posting this!!!
Thank you very much. My wife's mixer has been wobbling and bucking up and down. She thought it was time to buy a new mixer but I wanted to see if I could fix it first. I was prepared for a much more complicated job than this, so I'm glad to say all I had to do is loosen that screw a bit and now it's working like new again.
You are awesome! I was ready to send this back to the factory or buy another one as I have had it a long time, but the amount of money you spend on these mixers, they should last forever. My fiancee fixed this herself thanks to your video.
You say, "I hope this video helped." Are you kidding me!!! You just saved me $500.00!!! Genius! My mixer has had a shaky head for the last 4 years and has wrecked a paddle and a bowl. Every time I use it I have to hold the head up. Today was the day I went to throw in the towel, then I thought twice about it. Thank you, you clever man.
For me, kneading dough was like riding a bull, put my leather gloves, tight my wrist around the head, push the speed lever and yeehaw, stars the bouncing. Kitchen aid Management should contract you for the engineering team
I am so grateful for this video. I am an avid baker and was obsessing over the fact that I would have to spend $400 on a new mixer. I had been living with this problem for months, tried tightening every single screw and it got worse. Then I checked several videos regarding this same problem but without your explanation of how this screw actually works, I was afraid to loosen it too much. Authorized repair wanted $75 just to diagnose the problem. Thank you sooooo much for this fix.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! Every other video I watched said my attachments were sitting too LOW, but that wasn’t the issue. The attachments never hit the bowl but the mixer still wiggled. I could never fully lock it in-place. NOW I see I had the attachments set too HIGH so just messed with it and it’s solved! Thank you!
Thank You so much. The manual does not include this information. I've had my mixer for about 30 years. With bread dough it has started wiggling. Now I can adjust it correctly! It still works like new.
Dude, you're AWESOME!!! My husband bought me my mixer as a "just because" gift and I'd not even had it a year before it started that wobble problem. Thank you a trillion for taking the time to make this video!!!
Thank you so much for posting. Last time I used my mixer I noticed a wobble so I looked around the unit for loose screws. The only one I found-I tightened. Tried to use my mixer today and the wobble was worst. I found your video and realized I had tightened that screw when I should have loosened!! Made the adjustment and mixer is as good as new-thanks again!!
Oh, my!! I give a gazillion stars for this video! I had the exact same problem with my Artisan, had tightened the screw as well 😊. Went to KitchenAid’s technical troubleshooting online and couldn’t find anything about this. Then I called their totally useless technical support, but the woman didn’t even try to help and instead told me to send it to service. Imagine wrapping up and sending this heavy machine through the mail! Glad I found you. This is what technical support should be able to offer. Thank you so much!
My mixer is over 20 years old and I thought that I might need a new one since it was shaking a lot - this adjustment seems to have fixed the problem, thankfully. I use it to make bread a lot and ice cream with the attachment. Thanks for the video and the info on how to fix the problem.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video, I walk in the door and there was batter flying out of the bowl and the wife was not happy, what I learned is counter clockwise raises the mixer head and the implements don’t hit the inside of the bowl and the head does not bounce and the lock works properly...thanks pete
Life saver.. thank you. i did exactly what you did by thinking is was a loose screw and tightened it and it made it worse. i’m so glad you explained by adjusting the screw it acts as a rest and like magic all is new again. thank you so much.
Thank you! This saved my mixer. Just spent $80 to get my mixer fixed and my paddle was still beating the bowl. You are a genius, this fixed my problem in less than 2 minutes.
Holy smokes! You have single-handedly saved us viewers tens of thousands of dollars and reduced KitchenAid‘s annual sales by a boat ton. Their execs are not happy with you. ;)
Omg!!! I just fixed mine (THANKS to you!) after 2-3 years of it shaking & having to hold the head while mixing lol…..THANK YOU for recording & posting this video!!! 🙏🏼😃
Just got a Classic for a steal, cleaned it, turned it on and UGGHHH. First RU-vid video that came up for Kitchenaid Stand Mixer repair was this one. Solved in 3 minutes flat. Thank you so much 🙏🏻
I was having the same problem with the head of the mixer. Tried so many different ways to fix it and I never knew what the problem was. Thank you so much for this video !!!
Thank you! I have been holding the head of the mixer up by hand for two years to keep the beater from scraping the bottom. You solved my problem in two twists of a screw driver.
It took just a little fine tuning, but found the happy spot. No bouncy and attachments just barely off the bowl. I was adjusting in like 1/10ths turns. Perfect recipe! Thank you
I’ve tried adjusting mine for so long with little luck. You describing the screw’s actual mechanical function, a stop screw, was the missing piece lol. Thank you so much, my man
My mixer ' walked' off my counter a couple of weeks ago and I thought I'd broken it! So glad I found your video. A few turns of the screw and it's fixed! Thank you for posting this.😀
Thank you so much for posting this!!! It fixed my problem exactly! I just wish I watched it before I had to mix 10 batches of brownies by hand for a wedding. You are a life saver!
THANK YOU. I knew that that screw did _something_ related to the problem, but not understanding it as a stop meant I was not "unscrewing" it far enough. Really, really appreciate you posting this.
I started using our Kitchenette a lot for the holidays and that head started shaking like crazy. I was going to disassemble that thing. I'm glad you made this video and I took 10 seconds to search for a fix here. Thank you! Now it's not wiggling anymore. Will put it to test soon when making panettone this week.
Thank you! Thank you! When kneading bread in my KA Classic mixer, I had to hold the lock forward to keep the head locked and stable. Your video showed me that the lock wasn't coming all the way forward as it should. Once I adjusted the set screw, the lock came all the way forward and the head was no longer loose. Thank you for your clear, concise video.
Love you man, after I watch your video I adjust that screw and everything works perfect. I had problem with that for the past 4 months.Great tip ty ty ty.
I just used my mixer for the first time and had the same problem. Was really rumbling around and actually caused my bowl to move. I was at a loss to fix this problem. Thank you so much for this video.
Brother... you're my hero. I used to use my mixer to make bread all the time and rarely do anymore because of this issue (for years now). Kitchenaid recommends tightening a screw from the bottom, which I think may have been contributory, but it didn't solve my problem. I believe this did. Thank you!
Yeah, the screw you're talking about is just a set screw that holds the main pivot pin from coming out. If that pin isn't actually coming out, I don't think it will really make any difference. Even if the set screw is loose, as long as the pivot pin is in place, there shouldn't be any jiggling. I never would've imagined all the positive responses I'd get from posting this, but it sure makes me happy. :) Get back to the bread making!!!
Thank you! After ruining several attachments due to the excessive bobbing in the low position, i was ready to trash my kitchenaid mixer. You have saved the day!!
My mixer was hitting the bowl whie turned on...I wished I watched ur video before...I thought my machine is broken nd cant be fixed so I gave to thrift store. Just bought a new one. U have explained so well. Thanks
I was just about to sell at a Garage Sale and told people that there is something wrong with it. Thank god I never sold it, I thought I should check out RU-vid and found your video. PROBLEM Solved. Thank you. I of course tighten that screw as much as I could the first time...
Thank you so so much. I’ve had my mixer for 3 years and it’s been out away for 1 year because I thought it was broken and done for. I’m so glad I came across this video. Now I have to mixers
Thanks! I, like you , completely disassembled the unit to try to fix the wobble. I knew the adjustment screw was for raising or lowering the head for proper clearance to the bowl, but didn't realize that overadjusting it would make the head wobble. I was about to completely disassemble the unit again, but thankfully found your video and fixed the wobble with a couple of turn of the screw. Made my day! thanks again
I can't thank you enough for the video! I was so bummed and thought someone must have dropped it or something and a simple quarter turn of the screw solved it completely!! I'm forever in your debt.
Thank you so much!!! I normally don't even post but this was a solution definitely worth commenting. Your explanation was way better than the KitchenAid one. Now it's running so smoothly and no need to think about getting another one.
I wanted to thank you again, I just made another bread recipe and for the first time my mixer was entirely stable, no bouncing or rattling at all! I didn't realize until I saw your video that the screw serves to offset the angle of the head, I thought it only raised and lowered the attachments. I was able to loosen the screw and it met the head at a higher angle so that there was no play between the place where the head sits and where the lock engages. I had given up on my mixer years ago and have barely used it at all since, I had considered even buying a new one, but now I feel like I have a brand new mixer again because it works like new! Especially in this quarantine I'm so thankful to be able to use my mixer properly, the bread rolls I made last night were just gorgeous.
Thank you so much! I bought one on offer up and got a little sad when it started doing this, after this video I immediately took my tools to it and. Worked! Thank you, happy baking and making y’all! 💕
Oh my god thank you SOOOOOOO much for this video. I never actually though a video would be on here to solve this problem. I was going to take the whole thing apart. Big thumbs up. It definitely helped :)
You just saved me so much money! I was going to get rid of my 15-year-old KA Artisan mixer! Who knew one little tightening of a screw would fix it. Thanks so much!
You saved my beloved mixer!! Thank you so much. All other videos advised screwing the screw in as tight as possible, which only made the head on mine wobble worse. Your video is the only one I've seen with this solution and it worked like a charm. So grateful to you - thanks a million!!
