At work I use 2014 over 2021 even on company subscription, at home still use cs6.. Identical files opened in 2021 vs cs6/2014 is night and day in performance in favor of older versions. Once you start making 20+ layers on 4k files you notice it, the older versions stay buttery smooth with over 140 layers, newer versions freeze and randomly lag on brush strokes and whilst performing basic operations. Using a dual xeon workstation 128gb ram, 2x 1080ti - older card but still overkill for photoshop.
ugh looks like I'm finding a torrent then for cs6. Didn't think I'd rewind so far back at this point (there are newer features that I *do* like not needing an add on for on cc....but I'm so done with photoshop constantly acting as if it's possessed.....on a computer that's about 3x as powerful as yours (I work in VR)
I bought CS5 as a student, and used that for years. Excellent performance on my old system. I bought a new computer, didn't have a CD/DVD drive. Decided to get the newest Photoshop, and the performance is absolutely horrendous on a very high end system. I'm waiting minutes for opening files I worked on before, everything is laggy. R9 5900X, 64 GB 3600, Samsung 980 Evo NVMe, RTX 3090. I don't know what to do to fix it.
OMG this was it!! Thank you! I've been looking all over for a fix because yesterday my Photoshop was working fine and today I couldn't do anything because of that lag. Turns out I probably raised the smoothing to 100% while trying to raise the oppacity of a brush. Again, thank you! This has saved my life.
It honestly just feels like the complexity of Photoshop's development over the years has gotten away from Adobe. There are numerous flagrant issues with it like this that have gone unfixed for years. I got a brand new graphics card recently and the program is flat out unusable in GPU mode. They should not be allowed to charge what they do for it.
Adobe does have issues with all their apps not being optimized or havin some bugs obviously so regardless some things won't really help that. Well you just have to know how to get it cheaper like $28/m
Been struggling with a laggy brush for over a week now and turns out all I had to do this whole time was turn the brush smoothing down to 0%. 🤦♀ Thank you for this video! Wouldn't have known what to do without it 🙏🏼
After nearly 30 years of using photoshop it feels like everything they've added ( or taken away ) recently is almost trying to make the whole experience worse. From the shambolic save dialogue system to whole new lag / bugs on really basic features like panning the canvas.
I have rtx2070 super, i7, 32gb ram. I tried everything, Upgraded the drivers but it still running very slow. It takes around 1 min to fill background colour in the layer. I even reset my pc and reinstalled ps21.
I had to upgrade the OS and after that my brush was lagging. I knew it was something in PS. The smoothing made the biggest difference. Thank you! Also, if you need a video idea, for some reason my PS keeps flipping into "eye dropper tool" and then locks it in. I can't switch to another tool unless I hit the ESC key. It wasn't doing this before and I have no idea how to fix it! So if you or anyone knows, that'd be awesome! Thanks for the awesome video!
Thanks mate! Photoshop was pretty decent, but much like the other Adobe apps, the recent 2022 update just seemed to turn my workflow to mush! The brush is working a lot better now after employing some of these tips (particularly after turning down *smoothness*), so thanks again for all your help. Consider me subscribed! 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Don't know why, but mine lags when transitioning from image canvas to panels. Whenever my mouse goes over the panels in photoshop from being within the image canvas, it just lags like crazy. Then goes back to normal, it's seriously odd and I haven't found anything detailing why this happens.
I have a 10700k, 3070, and 32gb ddr4 (3600) and still having a bad time on photoshop while painting.. specially when using color picker constantly. The love and hate relationship i have with PS is out of this world..... (leaning way more towards hating it) also it doesn't make any sense having basic on the graphic card but it does helps for whatever technical reason is..
New update F'ed up my workplace and performance. I hate it when crack works better than licansed... Trying your ways, hope it will help. I cant tell now.
My pen is so laggy with my new 4GH 16 core CPU and 3070Ti w 32 GB RAM, its massively slower than it ever was with my old 4 core with a 1030 with 8 GB RAM. It's literally slow motion, as in it takes 5 seconds to process a .7 second pen stroke. Thanks Adobe! Turning off open CL fixed it. I'll probably need that for something else though. My mouse now draws triangles when I try draw a circle. What a MESS.
I have gone thru ur video with every single trick in mind, along with all comments of viewers (some happy, some sad) Now let me apply them and will get back with negative of positive (hopefully) feedback. FYI my config - Intel i7 (8th gen), 16gb RAM, Crucial P1 - 1TB nvme M.2, Dual GPU - Intel shared 2gb and GeForce 940MX
I'm using 23.5.1 and I don't see that drop down for basic, just advanced settings but then it only has the 3 checkboxes. My UI is laggy, slow response time for colour picking etc. 64GBRam, i9, 3070Ti and 4k monitor which I suspect is where some issues come from.
Didn't help, my issue is with all the tools, i'll point in one spot and it'll draw on another part of the canvas. Had to go back to ps 2020, not sure whats up with 2021, waste of money
I know this is an older video but I've been struggling with lag in Photoshop - specifically when using sliders in adjustment layers - & have been searching a solution. I have already tried a lot of stuff suggested in this video, but not file size. I create photo manipulations & often have quite a few layers, but I never know how large to create my document at the beginning. So what would you suggest? Something tells me my documents are too large. And thanks for the tips!
Hmm interesting the sliders are laggy oh that's a tricky one. Photomanipulation can be big but maybe just make it smaller ine the 1500/2000 pixel range instead of 4000
@@JeremyMuradesign Yeah, that seems to have improved it already, thank you! I think my documents were large enough to wallpaper a house so this makes much more sense.
man ive done all of this and it seems to JUST be my zooming in and out that is suuuper slow. everything else runs fine. It was working fine before this most recent update I wish Adobe would stop fucking with this software.
Yeah it sucks it can happen when you update that things stop working. Play around with GPU settings that's what I can recommend or go back to older version.
I have the issue where not only do I get lag here and there, but the UI seems to be possessed. the top UI bar for example that's supposed to stay however it's set when you change brushes (the pen pressure/opacity buttons for example) resets to default every. single. time. I switch a brush or switch to another tool. It will also mid painting switch to lasso, or switch from regular lasso without me doing anything to magnetic. I don't have a finger-touch capable cintiq so it's not the tablet. Other than that everything lags not just brushes and I have scratch disks at 77% and have a 2080 TI GPU and a lot of disc scpace free...so I'm at a loss as to what could be going on
i already did all these steps and still laggy as hell. PS 21 CC i use, i have Aurora R6 desktop in 4K res. win 10. all upgraded 1080 8 GB 16 GB ram i7 7700 3.6GHz
Hey, quick question! I am using an RTX 2060, I7 9700F, and 48 GB of ram, however, I noticed that I get significant lag when performing tasks such as undoing, redoing, and especially drawing with a brush. Nothing I have tried seems to fix my issues. Do you think you might have an answer? Thanks!
@JeremyMuradesign Yes, I made sure smoothing has been set to 0. I am using Kyle's pencil brush at 5-8 points, which I don't believe would be too tolling.
@JeremyMuradesign Thanks! I had actually just done this. It didn't quite do much for my performance. I've done a little more testing and, of course, noticed that there is a significant difference when changing my PPI. Looks like I was going a little overkill in that regard. The strange thing is that clip studio paint and Procreate could handle it more than fine. Do you believe upgrading any specific components on my desktop besides ram could improve my Photoshop performance?
When I click advanced settings, I'm not getting the option to change the drawing mode from advanced to basic. I do see the options to toggle Open CL and Anti alias guides and paths. I've turned brush smoothening down to 0% and still have lag? I have 16g of ram, I know it's not the best. but it shouldn't lag this much?
I have 16 Gb of ram & 3070 rtx, all setting are perfect, file size I use is just 2000x2000 & my Photoshop 2023 is always laggy asf even tho it only uses like 40-60% of my ram! (checking it thru tasks manager) and also my hard drive got plenty space too. Can you give me some advice or suggestion on what can be causing this kind of strange behavior from PS? Thanks
@@JeremyMuradesign Thanks for getting back to me bro! And yes photoshop installed on ssd nvme Samsung which is one of the best ssd options & my cpu is i5-11400f it’s a decent processor as well so I don’t even know what causes this weird functioning of my photoshop…
@@JeremyMuradesign Bro it same laggy stuff even when is only Photoshop running + I use ram cleaner little tool that optimize it every few minutes. Is 2000x2000 a big project size? Hell nah, ppl be working with like 5000x5000 and having 40% less efficient set-ups than mine lol I guess it might be caused by 4k resolution that set default on my pc in every scenario: games/ software as photoshop/ web surfing etc.
if i put memory usage to 90%, does memory will be used only when app is on. I want to ask if my phtoshop is turn off and i play some game, it will not effect on the game, yes?
When i'm typing the same number or letter continuously its not working properly Example when i type twice'aa' it only come one 'a' after 1 second again we type it will come and also i changed my keyboard other all application doesn't have the problem like excel word etc.
My pc spec is ryzen 3 2200g, graphic card gtx 1050ti 4gb, ram 8 gb, i dont know why but photoshop extremely laggs from the first use , any suggestions ? Have tried all the ram 85 % method, given permission to C,D,E drive still not working properly
Yeah so ive been lookin everywhere as to why my PSD is acting up. the program is snappy, but when it comes to moving assets between open files, drag n drop, its slow as hell, freezes up for a few minutes at a time. When it comes to saving files ( 10+ gb PSB files ) it takes 15-25mins ( I have turned of compression of PSB and PSD files to see if it made any difference, it did not ) I mainly do advanced photoshop compositions, sometimes containing well and above 1500 layers in each file. Specs. 256gb ram ( 3200mhz ) Nvidia 2080 Ti AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3970X 32-Core M.2 Discs only. got any tips aimed at this?
Personally I don't deal with HUGE comps, only lage mockup files, you have a beast of a computer and big compositions can have issues - Thread ripper should shred. To be honest adobe need to optimize better sometimes the app doesn't utilize all cores from cpu and GPU can have issues with latest updates on Adobe PS etc. I would always check the GPU is up to date using Nvidia geforce app though. That's all l know for now on this.
@@JeremyMuradesign yeah i have pretty much done all I can, everything is up to date. Thing is when I drag one layer from one to another window, it also takes a long ass time. ( I have even allocated max v-ram on a separate desk m.2 also ofcourse ) but it still utilizes well and above 160gb physical ram, its so poorly optimised i wanna puke. Fyi, saving a 12gb project file in cinema4d, is almost instantaneous, meaning adobe needs to step up their game I guess.
@@robertpantzar949 I have SSD's and M.2 for boot drive/scratch as well and I still get crashes sometimes Yeah bro I do feel Adobe lacks hard in the optimization part of things we can only do so much or just move to a program like an affinity designer people vouch for their speed.
@@JeremyMuradesign Yeah thing is affinity designer doesnt work well with scripts, and libraries is essential to the workflow for me and my team. So i guess i just gotta suck it up ;(
I did everything on this list and am still getting lag. I use an RTX4000 with 32gb of RAM so I'm really confused as to why this is occuring. Any help would be really appreciated.
PS 2021 - worst ps i've ever worked so far. Extremely slow. ( 2X1080ti ). I even deleted 2021 and installed back 2019....and guess what, it starts to run slowly! same as 2021. But before 2021 was installed, 2019 was fast enough. Seems like during installation, 2021 did some changes to the system and now any photoshop installed after 2021 will be horribly slow. Lesson is: !! DO NOT INSTALL PS 2021 AT ALL, STAY ON 2019 OR OLDER !! Adobe developers - shame on you. We don`t need that stupid neural filters, nobody using them for serious production. We need performance and stability.
@@JeremyMuradesign Did not help. I took your advice, but its useless. I've downloaded Photoshop from seven different sources this week, and every time Photoshop deletes its memory. I can rarely tweak this program - Photoshop stops and doesn't continue to run. I do not know how to be. I also worked with the registry - nothing helped. Check out my vi deo
@@JeremyMuradesign What exactly are you interested in by system characteristics? The unlicensed version worked for me for 5 years, but this week it began to reset its data. I downloaded photoshop from various sources without torrent. These are ready-made exe files. But they work great, but they all reset after a while. Something in the system or somewhere deletes data in this program
haha hey I bought one When I build my pc RTX 3080TUF but I got it just before it happend like around launch I snagged one in Australia - obviously with stock shortages they pushed prices way up I understand that now
