Its great to see you fix these great cars to amazing condition. I've owned four DSMs over the years. I've had my 97 TSI AWD for 22 years. Been always garage and barely driven the last 16 years. I've bought some rough ones fixed them up to great conditions and sold them. Wish I could have kept them but only have so much parking space.
You did really well. I've had to do this before and it's a huge pain in the butt. I would rather tear down and rebuild a transmission before trying to fix old plastic body molding. So tedious... and the 3M Adhesion Promoter is absolutely essential.
Agreed on all points Robert. These old panels require a lot patience and fortitude to say the least. Hopefully the video helps people know what they are up against.
Also, have you ever had to repair a peeling dash on a 1g? Particularly the bit on top of the glove box that always peels up. I'd love to see a video on how to do that properly, because I need to fix it on my car.
I had to do this on my 1ga and it was a totally nerve-wracking experience. To make matters worse, it seems the 1ga door moldings like to shrink over time and aren't always the same exact size, and there are no clips to help guide you under installation
It is nerve racking every time I do it. You get one shot to get it straight and if not you have to start all over. You are correct that one from one car may not be exactly the same as another.
Love your content so far! I have a white 92 AWD TSI Talon that was my grandfathers since 97 ish - going to try this on my driver side molding this fall. Where do you suggest buying the retainer clips that hold the inner door rubber seal in place? The rubber itself is good on my car (this was my grandfathers garage kept since the mid 90's). The little white/clear plastic clips just don't hold it in place currently.
I found a great replacement for those clips. They are generally for Honda and number 90664-671-0030. Many different companies make them. They can be found to order in many places including Amazon. The brand I use is Auveco and there part number is 14328.
Sorry, it is sold now on BringaTrailer for a record amount a DSM has went for. I will be doing the last content on it in some upcoming videos. The new owner is a long time lover of these cars so I am sure it will be around to see. bringatrailer.com/listing/1992-eagle-talon-tsi-4/
Next video can you get straight to the point we want to see the methods please. Method 1 2 3 bosh done. Less waffle I had to play this video at double speed to stop it wasting my life with waffle thankyou
