I have heard that the spacebar is virtually impossible. I had an "a" key malfunction. I have pretty strong hands and have played guitar in the past and with the little finger angle, I think I just broke it after 5 years of use. It was sticking. I researched took apart and cleaned, cleaned, reassembled, and noticed broken parts. It worked a little better. I bought the key caps and then realized the butterfly clip was broken and then I had to buy those too. I replaced those parts and the A is working slightly worse than it did before. Verdict: parts not worth it. I would rather have bought a replacement keyboard and braved the 4 hours plus of labor necessary to dissassemble the whole Macbook pro. The alterntive is to buy a slender bluetooth keyboard that works with Mac. Your options are poor. If I could get a few broken macbook pros of the same year for as mine for cheap and I could do a couple machines, it might make it worth it to me.

thank you, i don't think i found any other videos like yours that handles the replacement of the whole mechanism, where do you buy the entire set of mechanism? edit: ah aliexpress yes thats where i saw them too, it takes quite a while for the order to arrive, i'll just keep my fingers crossed then. I tried fixing the loose key and ended up ruining the whole mechanism. Shop says i need to replace the whole keyboard, i refuse to give up just yet!!
Hi there :) -- I will be sending a donation for this! -- Is there any place to purchase new keyboard pieces? The ones that need to be glued down? (that need to be replaced) Thank you
Sure Brandon! In Aliexpress you can buy it, I'll leave you the link. es.aliexpress.com/item/1005003913374989.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2esp And that would be awesome, my mail is ludwigbow@hotmail.com if you'd like to make a paypal donation, I would truly appreciate it, thank you!
Yessir! The keys are still working fine, I used super glue, the liquid one, maybe some loctite liquid super glue will work out for you, it’s supposed to work with metal or plastic
@@ludbow ok thanks. i was worried as you said once it dries it stays like rock so if i need to take it off in the future i would not be able too. it will still pop off though hey... appreciate your responses..
@@ludbow Ok so i wet through this process and the key is in place but really not working. do i need a different part. if i hit the middle of the key with some pressure it will work but not the corners or light pressure aywhere
My left shift key stopped working completely. The white butterfly mechanism is still working normally. I tried pressing the dome switch with my hand and it pressed down as intended but never registered a click. Do you think changing out the dome switch will fix my problem?
@@ludbow I need a bunch. If you get an affiliate link or promo code I’d rather see u make something from it. Thanks again, all the geniuses in the world don’t equal you bro.
I have a C key that was having issues. Just curious for anyone @Ludwig or anyone that resolved this if when they remove the fixed key faceplate if the whole thing comes out? Or just the faceplate? Reason was I had a Macbook technician that tried the same thing but used some kind of cement. But the faceplate still comes out even after it cured for over a day.
Thanks for the tutorial. It's very helpful to understand the underlying problems. But by using Cyanacrylate as adhesive you're making it unrepairable for the future, right?
Thanks! I’m glad it worked for you, and you can still repair in a future, that’s why you only use a small drop of adhesive and if you try to repair in a future you’ll need to scratch/pry the old adhesive really careful 👌🏾
