Thank you. It worked like a charm for me. This had been so frustrating. I especially like the tip to mask the rest of the device with a tissue. In my 50+ years of doing DIY (reluctantly) I had never run across this advice, and I can see how useful it would be in other situations.

Common misconception: WD40 is a solvent, not a lubricant. It may act to dissolve any fatty residue on the mouse wheel which was causing the sensor to misfire. It will not lubricate the mouse wheel though. As long as it fixes the issue then this is a fine method

@ShawnJonesHellion
@ShawnJonesHellion Год назад
Wd40 eventually attracts dust/grime. It's been a while now I thought everyone would have stopped using it. Technically cleaner than maybe add silicone spray is the way. If cleaner works you should probably use rubbing alcohol. Can probably just pour some 90% down there an scroll it a few times without opening. Im not saying do that though. Contact cleaner can cause shorts can't it?

I can't believe it was this simple. I have a Starlight 12 TenZ edition and it's had the "phantom" scrolling problem ever since I got it. I RMA'd it back to Final Mouse and they sent it back... problem still persisted. I even installed the latest firmware and that didn't help either. I was reading on Reddit that you shouldn't use WD40, and that Isopropyl alcohol is better. WD40 is all I had. Glad I tried it because it scrolls PERFECTLY now. Seriously, not a single incorrect scroll input. Thanks for this video you're a damn life-saver.

Before surgery, I tried this. My Corsair Ironclaw wheel was jumping the webpage erratically up and down. I turned the mouse upside-down, and gently but quickly rolled the wheel along the big mousepad about 15 times. I guess some stubborn dust got removed because it worked perfectly after that.

I couldn't actually remove the wheel, as it was fixed in place and not easily detachable, but I did clean the wheel with WD-40 and a bit of Vaseline using a Q-tip and my finger whilst rotating it so that the carriage it sits in would get the lubricant, and it worked fine. Many thanks. I've seen lots of websites and videos that didn't work, this did. Much appreciated!

I need to comment that this video saved my budget corsair mouse. It didn't take long daily driving and gaming on my Corsair Katar Pro XT mouse for it to develop this jumping/skipping issue. Had a small battle with Corsair RMA department about replacing the mouse at zero cost to me (shipping included) they agreed. Within a few weeks the new mouse developed the same problem. Well, I'm certainly not having the same conversation with the RMA department so I tired this method and it has been a legit 6 months and ZERO skipping from my scroll wheel. I do however suggest to spray the WD40 into a bottle cap and use a micro swab (from Amazon) to drip the WD40 inside the encoder.
