If you have a computer case fan or laptop fan that is making noise and you want to repair it, then this video is for you. When fans get dirty and dusty, they don't work properly and they need to be clean or replaced. Why is my laptop fan so loud? A loud Laptop fan can be a sign of a future overheating problem if not cleaned. Dust build up can be a big problem and the fan will need to be cleaned and oiled or replaced.

oil worked for me, but only for a few months. After that noise comes again. Now I took apart the same fan, take out blades and not oiled but lubricate motor axle. Fan works again so silent that i thought its not working at all. Now im waiting while noise will come again.

Would love to hear a before and after with a bad fan in a review like this. I've got one that sounds like a bad bearing, so hopefully this works on it. Looks like the US has the same brand of oil. Naturally, we have a yellow bottle instead of white, but the design is mostly similar.
@Dutch3DMaster
@Dutch3DMaster 2 года назад
A worn out bearing will not fix itself with oil, it means the balls inside are worn out to the point the fan itself is capable of wobbling around the rotational point.

Informative video Brian ... I'd put up with noisy fans since the mid 90's, fine when you buy them, but having to replace them every two or three years because of the inevitable buzzing that comes over time got annoying. Then in 2010 I came across an ideal solution, buy Noctua. I've had the same NF-P12's for going on 9 years, no buzzing no nothing, even undervolted they are amazing. Yes it cost me an arm and a leg when considering fan prices, but in 9 years they've paid for themselves easily, and I haven't had no pissing about having to change them or repair them. They have a MTBF rating of about 17 years, and it wouldn't surprise me if they went beyond that. I will admit though, when I bought them I had some buyers remorse, but it turns out there was no need.

It didn't help me at all. My NXZT fans can't be opened like this ones, so I couldn't apply this fix. I only ended up destroying the stickers from one of my two fans but actually what helped me was to clean the dust from all the corners. Apparently, the weight from the dust made it spin uneven and created the noise. After cleaning them with a dry brush, reinstalling and testing them, they went back to be silent. Thanks to me, I guess. Lol.

@wills.5762
@wills.5762 Год назад
@@ccarter55589 Is that still the case? WD40 is pretty widely known to lubricate only temporarily. It collects dust and evaporates partially, while mixing with and dispersing any other present lubricant, meaning it actually increases friction if you dont regularly reapply it

From my experience if a fan stars doing noises some oil will patch the problem but will never persist because the noise comes from wear that makes the fan spin wobbly.

The reason why these fans get noisy and will eventually seize is because the bearings start to fail. The precision super hardened surfaces of the bearings starts to wear out. Putting on lubrication is a temporary fix. Fixing the fan to make it last longer is a good idea. If you can get a number of months or even a year more from the fan is a good accomplishment. Makes for saving the fans from going out in to the land fill for a number of months or a bit longer.
@PapaMav

But a fix, nonetheless and does prolong their longevity.

No label, no hole. My CPU fan had neither. So I had to drill a hole to expose the shaft and then add oil. I then added my own cover to cover the hole. Back to being quiet, and the CPU idle temperature has also dropped due to the fan now also spinning a bit faster.

@JA-rn5qv
@JA-rn5qv 4 года назад
ln a pinch yes you can however you would have to make sure that you remove any washers/seals and apply the compound directly to the rotating parts to insure the compound coats them since vaseline does not flow at room temperature. another alternative would be baby oil (mineral oil) which will penetrate better (so that you don't have to dissasemble the moving parts) and flow to where it needs to go.

I just got a new case with new fans (apart from the cpu fan) and I'm getting a buzzing from one of the brand new fans! It doesn't seem to be a cable brushing against the fan or anything... just a light buzzing, like a bumble bee! It comes and goes and if I knock the case it will go away. It is a very dusty environment but surely a week old fan wouldn't fail this early??? Edit: It was the CPU fan... it was caked with dust... got the compressed air out and gave it a good blast and its fine now!

I just fixed a fan that had this terrible ticking sound whenever it was running. I pushed the blades off (make sure your fan can do this before you do it; typically done for easy cleaning). The problem was there was a little metal/magnet cylinder that was on the inside of the blade assembly that had gotten knocked around a little in shipping or just didn't quite get set all the way during manufacturing. I could even see little rub marks on the cylinder where the assembly was hitting the main housing. I pushed the cylinder down into the assembly, pushed the blades back on, and it started spinning again with no noise.

Not all fans take oil as there are different types of bearings. Not one person on RU-vid explains this.

any advice for fans that have a sealed rear section?

As usually the case with anything I want to fix. I have something else, something weird which is never the case in any video. So I pull off the sticker from my 120mm fan and there is nothing there. I know that it might be a rubber cover over the bearing but this seems to be plastic and shut. One mold. There is a little circle, but it doesn't seem to be a separate part. Even if it were, how the hell am I suppose to pop it out. Any ideas, help?

I need a way to remove the blades from a corsair fan. It's different from the others. A bit misleading with a corsair fan thumbnail and then a completely different one in the video... :\
