I just made this repair and it's amazing the difference in the sound of the treadmill with new bearings. It had gradually gotten bad over time until it was so loud I thought I would damage the deck. The only things I did different is that I used a spare rod iron stair spindle instead of using the tube. I didn't want to have to grind the hammer surface on the metal shaft. I also used a 4lb sledgehammer. two hits and the old bearings were removed and re-seated.with new ones. Excellent video.

Ok first of all Michael: THANK YOU! I just picked up a used F80 for my wife for a great price, proudly got it home and fired it up to show what a great find I had for her..... and realized in testing it at the seller's, I'd not gotten it above 2MPH to hear the glorious sound of a failed bearing. Finding your video was perfect; grabbed a set of 3 bearings (why? 3? dunno) from Amazon for less than 10 bucks; and an hour plus 15 min, have this thing back to the "whisper quiet" advertised!!! The hour of my 1.25 hours was only to keep the roller tube plus old bearings still installed, in my freezer that long! Getting it nice and cold got both bearings out with a couple of whacks with a 3lb hammer and board in between. Out they came, and the new ones popped right in. No grinding, no fuss, and I didn't even have to change out of my work clothes. My wife is now impressed with my uncanny skill, and I'll be throwing the credit your way as I've never messed with anything on a treadmill before this (short of watching my wife use it!). Many thanks!! 3 years later and your excellent tips are still saving marriages. Kudos!

Agree that this is a good fix, and agree that the center rod should not be used to hammer that bearings out, but rather some other metal rod, or dowel that is expendable. It would have been nice to run the treadmill before the repair to demonstrate which particular noise was being addressed. Thanks.

Buy yourself a 5/8TH round by 3FT long steel zinc coated rod at Lowes for 13 bucks. Then insert the rod into the roller and tap bearing out it with a hammer. I had the roller laying on top of a car tire to grip the roller ever time I tapped it. Remember inside the bearing shaft theirs a lip inside the roller before the bearing you don't want to hit that part. Just the lip of the bearing. Also, use a 3lb 12 inch hammer rather then a regular hammer. Pop goes the weasel. Then add some anti seize to the inside opening of the roller where the bearing will meet and you'll be much happier if you have to change your bearings again. You won't beat up your treadmill shaft using the 3ft 5/8 rod instead and the 3lb, 12 inch hammer are cheap pop's the bearing on the first or second strike and your repair goes faster. I followed your system and since I don't have an expensive vise. I used a tire for gripping and holding the roller. Thank You.

Hi, nice work, at the beginning of the video you mention that you cleaned the roller a few years back before replacing the bearings and that it helped with the noise, did you dissassembled the roller completely like in this video or just cleaned it as it is, and how did you cleaned it (or was the bearings that needed cleaning?). I would be very grateful if you could help me.
@sstressfl
@sstressfl 4 года назад
Hi! I took the entire roller off the back of the treadmill just like in this video but I did not remove the bearings. I wiped everything down and then sprayed triflow lubricant on the bearings until they rolled smoother and quieter. It helped for a few more months but then it started getting louder again. I knew it was time to fix it. I hope that helps!

Michael - finally got the new bearings... Springs came off - easy peasy. However - the shaft doesn't come out the other end. Also, not noticing a washer on either side. Any thoughts? I was expecting the shaft to be easily removed once the clips came off.
@sstressfl
@sstressfl 3 года назад
@@chrishromada3910 The washer, I believe, compensates for spacing. The assemblers that put these together would use one, I suspect, only if they needed it. So I wouldn't worry if yours does or doesn't have a washer. When you say you can't remove the shaft, does it move at all? Does it slide? Without seeing it I would think corrosion or mild rust, dirt build up on the shaft... something is causing it to stick to the bearings. If that's the case, you might to spay a little oil on it, wipe it down, maybe even use a fine grit sand paper or steel wool to clean the surface. And perhaps tap the shaft with a hammer to see if it pops loose. Don't use excessive force. You could just make it stuck. It should come out easily. The other possibility is that the shaft is bent. But that seems unlikely, right?
@chrishromada3910
@chrishromada3910 3 года назад
Figured it out ... didn't see this in your video.. but unbeknownst to me - there was a another spring pliers that was on the "inside" as well.... I used some gentle force to extract the one end - off came the bear + the shaft and on the stuck end of the shaft was another spring ring that was preventing mine from sliding off. Had you taken yours apart previously?

Great video! My Sole F80 seems to be slippery recently with the squeaking sound. When running on the treadmill, I feel that the supporting board is not stable and balanced like before. I tightened the belt with both sides and made sure the belt was properly oiled but issue still remained. Do you think the rear roller is the issue? TIA
@sstressfl
@sstressfl 3 года назад
Do you mean the belt is slipping? If that’s happening it usually means the belt is too loose. But if you feel like the board underneath your feet is loose, you can disassemble it and tighten the screws that hold it down. I had to do that once. Those grey side covers that run the full length of the treadmill can be removed, then you can access the base board screws.

My Sole TT8 is making a high frequency humming sound. I did replace the rubber belt, but still it makes humming sound and when I stand on the deck, the belt mat slips until it can build momentum. Could this be the bearing that are bad? this does not have a clunking sound.
@sstressfl

Have you lubed the belt? It sounds dry. I use this stuff. Just a small bit under the belt, middle, near the area where you step down. It will make the belt slide with ease when you put your weight on it and allow the motor to spin with out as much resistance. My guess is that noise is probably the motor working too hard. amzn.to/3BjmA26

As someone else mentioned I think I boogered up ours by overtightening the belt tension. It was only a few years old but it never was "right" after I loosened it to oil the belt one day ... So it was probably totally user error lol. How often do you oil the belt?
@sstressfl
@sstressfl 3 года назад
It’s easy to over tighten! I tighten mine until it floats above the base a little bit then I get on it to see if it slips when I run on it. When it’s too loose the belt will stop momentarily when you stomp down on it. I tighten it a little bit at a time until it no longer slips. And I lube the belt as soon as it feels like it’s dragging. Maybe once every 3 months? 3 of us in the family use it almost daily. Hope that helps!

Hi. I replaced the bearings but the clicking noise is still there. Then I replaced it again thinking the new bearing was bad quality and relevant got NTN Japan beatings and the noise was still there. darn what's the problem. ps. the NTN Japanese bearings were dope. the build quality was amazing.
@sstressfl
@sstressfl 3 года назад
Interesting. Top of mind... the belt is too tight? Try varying the tension. If that's not it, the noise could be coming from the front, which can sound like its coming from "everywhere". Try opening up the front and giving it a good cleaning (usually filled with dust)/inspection and let it run slow with the cover off... keep your hair/body/clothes away from moving parts to be safe. See if you can detect the actual source of the click. If the click happens only when you run, it could be a loose rail. Make sure everything is tight. It could also be the feet on the bottom. Make sure the unit it level and is not flexing when in use. Hope you find it! Come and back and share, if you don't mind.

It's coming from the right side and the loudness varies randomly. I flipped the roller but still noise from right side. Can't find any loose screws or bolts anywhere that could be causing this. I have loosened the belt to the point that it slips but still the sound. I replaced the belt about eight months ago but the sound only started about one month ago. Anything I am missing to check?
@sstressfl
@sstressfl 2 года назад
Its possible you got a poorly manufactured bearing. The entire deck came loose on mine and I had to tighten it up. I had to remove the top trim pieces and tighten all of the screws that hold it down. Possible thats what's making the noise? Not long ago I had some new noise developing and took the front cover off and cleaned everything. The noise went away. Hope you can find it. Noises are so annoying!

@@sstressfl Stop the presses! Found the issue. On one side of the roller the bearing does not fit completely snug allowing for slight vibration that is amplified by the treadmill frame. I tried both bearings on that one side and result is the same. For a test, I wrapped a bit of pipe tape around the bearing on that side and behold, no more noise. That is until the tape "walked" off the bearing during use. I just need to find a way to keep the bearing snug on that one side. Any suggestions there would be appreciated.

@@josephsetto3930 Awesome discovery! A little worrisome though... sounds like the barrel (the bread roller) is stretched out and won't hold onto the bearing anymore. You can buy ball bearing shims, but you need to know how thick it needs to be and the diameter. Or you could try red loctite and "glue" it in. The loctite will create a very strong bond but should be able to loosen up with heat. Worse case sceanrio, you need to buy a whole new roller. I hope you can find a fix!

@sstressfl
@sstressfl 4 года назад
Your belt needs to be lubricated! Every time you take a step your weight presses the belt against the base and causes it to grab and stop until you lift your weight off of it. There is specific lube for treadmills. And there is a process. I use treadmill lube on the end of a flat long steel ruler and reach in under the belt near the running area to apply the lube. I do this about every 6 months or when I think I sense it gripping the base 👍 Hope that helps!!

@@sstressfl yeah the belt is very old, about 12 years or so. never replace it because i rarely use it back then, started using it frequently since oct 2019 and felt the belt slip last month. i tried to lubcricated the belt but still the belt stop splitsecond when i'm on it. i guess i missed middle area a little bit, will try to lubricate it again sooner and try to fix the noisy roller. again, thank you so much sir for all the informations and advices 👍

Any chance you have done the front bearings? Same process?
@sstressfl
@sstressfl 3 года назад
I haven’t looked! Front is still very quiet. But I think there is a belt that runs to roller and that roller has bearings on it. I suspect very similar but requires a little more tear down.

Do you know if it risks damage to the treadmill if you keep running on it w/ bad bearings? I am waiting for mine to arrive but don't want to stop running!
@sstressfl
@sstressfl 3 года назад
My guess would be potential for it to freeze up which might cause you to fall if it stops suddenly. If it’s dragging bad it puts stress on the motor. It would also stress the belt. When mine was going bad I kept running... it made noise but I didn’t detect that it was overly tight or dragging. You’ll have to make the decision based on the symptoms you can detect.

Use a wooden block when hammering on the metal shaft.

How do you know what sizes bearing to get
@sstressfl
@sstressfl 2 года назад
I found small numbers on the side of the existing bearings then did a google search. The # corresponds to a standard size bearing 👍

Does anyone know where I can pickup a set of bearing for my Profrom treadmill?
@sstressfl
@sstressfl 3 года назад
When you take it apart, if its using similar bearings to mine, there should be a # stamped into the bearing. That # should lead you to the correct bearing.

Thanks for posting! I replaced two bearings in a Proform Pro 2000. They were also 6203Z that I replaced with 6203ZZ (or 2Z) and they fit perfectly. I don't have a snap ring pliers, so I used nails and vice grips like this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wXnjiXvi0gY.html I did use the rod at a slight angle to push out the first one from the other end, but used a block of 2x4 and a dead blow mini-sledgehammer to avoid damage to the rod end. For the second end I dropped a large fender washer down into the roller, so a couple smacks with the hammer and it was out. The rod/axle was unscathed. I ended up using Timken bearings from Amazon, but they look like they are likely made in China anyway.

Next time just put the new bearings into the freezer for a few hours before installing em and u wont need to use any force.

I’ve heard such things for when the bearing just won’t go. Have you tried it? It makes sense to me but I always though it would be too insignificant unless you also heated the outer piece. But for this application it really wasn’t hard to seat the bearings.

I was really hoping to see a demonstration of the clunking sound before you started the repair. 🫤 That would've been super helpful, too.
@sstressfl
@sstressfl Год назад
Someone else mentioned that before. But it missed it! If it’s any help the clunk was very obviously in the back and it was a very distinct clunk clunk clunk that got faster as I added speed to the treadmill.
