Aloha, before I pressed the F10 key, I pressed the CTRL+ALT+DEL key to reboot the laptop. When I pressed the F10 key, I entered in the laptop BIOS setting, if you don't have a HP PC or laptop you need to press the correct key for your PC or laptop to enter in the BIOS settings. You should look in advanced menu, in every BIOS there is a boot order menu.....from there you can change the boot order (HDD, optical drive, LAN, FDD, USB flash drive etc) otherwise you can't install /reinstall the operating system if every time the PC is booting from the HDD. Aloha, I didn't encounter this error, but I would try to: 1. Unplug the power cable, remove the battery, press the power button for 20 seconds, plug in the power cable, power on and press repeatedly the F 10 key 2. unplug the power cable, remove the battery, remove the HDD, press the power button for 20 second, plug in the power cable, power on and press repeatedly the F10 key 3. unplug the power cable, remove the battery, remove the HDD, remove the BIOS battery if you have access to it, press the power button for 20 second, plug in the power cable, power on and press repeatedly the F10 key 4. unplug the power cable, remove the battery, remove the HDD, press the power button for 20 second, plug in the power cable, power on and try to press repeatedly from the left from the ESC, 1, 2, 3......DEL key, restart the laptop from every unsuccessful try. Hi, if your laptop is same as in the video, the HP Compaq nc2400, then : Step 1: test your HDD with the "HDD Self Test Option" from the BIOS ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6SQxFBmI_9A.htmlsi=OZSjUobL62ZT_9rZ , if you get some error you can try the "Disk Sanitizer" (you will loose all your data from the HDD) from the BIOS ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6SQxFBmI_9A.htmlsi=OZSjUobL62ZT_9rZ or try to low level format with an external program (you will loose all your data from the HDD) Step 2: if you don't see your HDD, check your HDD cable like in this video, maybe is a loose cable, imperfect connection Step 3: if after you check your cable and everything is OK, and still you don't see your HDD, then probably your HDD is bad, you have to replace the HDD or go to PC service. But the 2 lines are repeating... i have made notebook hard drive as the boot order... but pressing f9 does not shows the notebook hard drive.... it shows optical hard drive and notebook ethernet

If you have important data, then you need to send to a data recovery center. or you can try yourself (but you can loose for good the data from the HDD) 1.replace the data cable 2. try to mount the HDD with an 1.8 Inch HDD to SATA Adapter Converter Board 3. replace the electronic board from another HDD electronic board I wish you good luck with the recovery PS.You can upgrade your mechanic HDD to an SSD ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-g8GjK0bTLVc.html

Aloha, this is only one of the possible fix, in my case was the ribbon cable. I'm having the same error but in my case my laptop is fine and initializing correctly, i'm just trying to boot from a usb beucase i'm trying to switch from Linux to Windows, to remove Linux and install Windows, but i'm not suceeding because of this disk error. I've done all the procedure already, the HDD is fine. But i'm still getting the error. I've already installed multiple versions of Windows on my USB flashdrive, made it bootable with a lot of different versions of Windows and with a lot of different procedures but it's still not working. My laptop is a HP Compaq 510. Please, need help.

Aloha, if you get this error, you might consider to remove the HDD and install in a desktop PC where you test it for errors and make a low level format. What operating system do you try to install Windows XP, 7, 8, 8.1, 10? @@redigitt Hello, thanks for replying. Well, I'm kinda lost with your explanation because i'm a starter. I bought this laptop as a second hand and it has 4GB RAM. I can't follow your tutorial of making a bootable Windows usb flash drive because i'm running Linux in the moment and I'm so lost with this system aaaaaa. Actually I made a bootable Windows USB flash drive on Linux thanks to some tutorials but it's showing this disk error when i try to boot with Windows. Do you think I should make a bootable Windows USB flash drive with a different Windows version? I've already tried with Win7 and Win10. Thanks for the help.

I don't know Linux, I only know Windows 1 .The Linux runs ok on the laptop? you can test the HDD under Linux? 2. Do you have a running Windows PC? Make the bootable Windows 7 USB drive under Windows, Enter in the BIOS with F10 and change the boot order to be the first boot device the HDD, save it, restart the notebook, press the F9 key, this should be the fast boot menu on the notebook, boot from the USB flash drive and install Windows 7 Did you tryed to boot from the USB flash drive on another PC? maybe the USB is not bootable. For that notebook the best version is Windows 7 Home Edition x64 bit.

@@redigitt The Linux was running really smooth, no problems whatsoever. Wow, it was so difficult. I wasn't able to make a Windows bootable USB Flashdrive on Linux. Then, i tried it on my aunt's laptop that has a Windows system, I made the USB flashdrive bootable with a program named Rufus. And finally, it worked! What a headache! But thank your for answering my comment, it really worked. My laptop was too old, then I had to put the option MBR and format the flashdrive on NFTS, then, it worked. :)

Aloha, in this video the HDD is a 1.8" HDD and it has a "ribbon" cable and the end of the cable was damaged, it didn't make full contact and that's why I got that error message. I also encountered a loose SATA data cable and a loose SATA power cable and the operating system did not load or after a while I got a blue screen. Aloha, you didn't say if you have the same notebook or not and what did you do exactly.
