I bought a new fan from amazon but doesn't work out of the box so I am trying to fix it to show how to open and repair these fans, brand is Pelonis fan.

Wow!! You fixed it!! We have a pedestal fan that is only one week old. My son knocked it over. Now it doesn't work. It didn't break the blades, so I bet it knocked a wire loose!

Very useful video. Had pedestal quit working after a few months. Just decided to try to change out the fuse that didn't work. Found video cracked it up and found the problem a wire broke loose.

Nice job! This reminds me of a treadmill I bought at a pawn show that was brand new. I put it together and it didn't work. Took it apart and a wire had just fell off. Plugged it in and it has worked great!

Right now, I have 4 (somewhat) WORKING pedestal fans I recently found in and by the dumpsters in our large apartment complex. 1...has a broken motor housing. 2...squeaks when oscillating. 3...I have to make a new homemade base for it. 4...cannot be ratcheted to adjust elevation. None of these are a problem to me. I plan to donate two of them. With the present pandemic, if you live in an apartment with interior hallways, it’s especially important to ventilate! During the Spanish flu pandemic 100 years ago, they put a lot of emphasis on ventilation. There are two photos online, one of a barbershop, and another of a court of law both being held outdoors. That’s how much importance they put on ventilation. Therefore these pedestal fans could be worth their weight in gold if there’s ever a run on them at the stores.

Excellent. Variety is the spice of life. A friend gave me a similar remote controlled fan like yours to repair. I tested everything and determined the motor was at fault. Unfortunately a thermal fuse buried in the motor windings did it's job and was open. It was impossible to get to it without massive destructive digging into and was not recoverable.. I saved the remote and the receiver control board. The long LEDs are kind of neat looking.

How did you test the motor? Ohm meter?

@@TampaTec Yes. Checked for continuity on the motor leads coming out of the motor windings wire loom. Power was getting all the way to the motor and it still did nothing so that made me test the motor winding continuity. Sure enough I found the bad thermal fuse. I have several thermal fuses on hand and have repaired motors and wall wart transformers that had blown the thermal fuse in the past. But those fuses were usual not buried in the windings and were on the surface and easily replaced. The fan motor thermal fuse was buried under several layers of winding of the motor and under several layers of wire lacing holding the wires in place. It was not repairable after tearing all that apart and making is safe for use again.

Personally, I wouldn't bother piercing the power cord. After checking the fuse, go inside , as you did.

Fuse in the plug? i thought our UK plugs were the only ones with a fuse in them. Grate fix as well.

Didn't know about that line fuse (generic? pico? universal what spec?) THANKS. I can see how mass production - items loose or basically cheep parts "ITS ABOUT THE BASICS" thx for your time it got me thinking again "The Basics".... I got a NEW fan on E-bay (wall fan) and in 2-3 days it sized won't turn on no noise. I opened and motor oil was SO DRY guessing it was in storage warehouse so long maybe years !!! EVERYONE : Now I know - When you get a "new fan" you should maybe oil motor and manually finger spin the blades should spin freely w/ no power. Before you oil finger spin and you'll see the difference before and after oiling (clean extra oil "drip extra" before turning fully back on). Then oil as needed ( I'll do now every 4-5months or so takes 15-20mins work ) should last for YEARS !!!

I have one of these but it's an older cool breeze fan. Same issue, plug it in no power, test continuity, OL on meter. Will be taking this fan apart to see what went wrong. I think it seized up and something burned out. Will be looking for thermal fuse in motor.

I hope you have the polarity correct! Just a heads up for your viewers. If you reverse the HOT and NEUTRAL on an AC circuit you allow the circuit to remain hot, so the board of the fan will be energized all the time, even though you can switch it off, the power is reversed where the switch only stops the power from completing back to the outlet instead of letting it energize the board when switched on. My wife bought me a Hoover garage vac years ago when I tried to turn it on , no go. She was so upset, I took it apart same issue.

Tampatec is a good Tech. I would, however, be cautious about putting hot glue just above a 5-watt resistor.

Hi, I have an almost identical fan with the same board, the fan operates fine via the front panel, but via the remote control it behaves oddly. Whilst on standby, I can use the remote to start the fan, but then I am unable to turn it off or modify any of the speed settings etc. It's almost like once it is running it doesn't have enough power to receive a signal (just a theory). I have looked at the board and don't see any obvious failed capacitor etc... any thoughts? I'd like to keep this running and not filling landfills with "fixable" electronics....

Nice vid.. now fix the light in your workplace :) That spring is to hold the fan up so it doesnt fall downward if the "clicks" wear out when adjusting the fan head level.

That was a great fix! I would have sent that p.o.s. right back to Amazon or get a partial refund..( actually Amazon is good with that) I have a 3 tier fan, 3 fans on top of each other. The fan has a switch box on the side prob had a remote, that I dont have Each fan has low med high setting, It wont power on. I was thinking of bypassing the power switch because I dont circuit boards as you demonstrated. Would you have any advice on how to get this going? ( aside from getting a pro electrician) I dont have the knowledge that you do. Thanks Barry NYC

i would like to see a video on fixing computer monitors as i have a samsung 19" led monitor when i turn it on it stay's on for a little while then go's out but you can still see the images in the background then i press the power button off and on and it comes back on again and stay's on then will do it again a few hours later any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do a how to on 30” utilitech pedestal fan. Modified blade’s in terms if a little ir lke a tad bigger itch or so, has run for a few years/awhile and wanna year or more ir so since thn, thn ruddy, jst recently found out tht it’s nt working. The little lght on the plug thts tspoed around the motor just so it can be plugged in and not have to bend up and down just to fck pick it up, bud lke, it’s a good:great, xnd even bttr fxn, jst the pesky motor nt rlly wrkng fr sxmecreadon?🤔🤨🧐🤷‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️😕🤕🤷‍♂️🧐🤨🤔? Bt we hve a tea next weekend for my sister, sons outside some in, but,/…it’s supposed to be 90, ok syre, question on internet, what temperature do fxns nt work on or so/something lke tht, so I looked jst to lke see, xnd it says, fans shouldn’t be used in excessive of or lke when the highs are 90 or so, whch ws opposite from the question or so, but lke still,/…I jst dnt rlly know why it did that
