UPDATE: I highly recommend using a respirator when spraying PlastiDip, which you can pickup from hardware stores. The paper mask used in the video is insufficient for safe, continued use.
Worn out pelican cases? Crumbling foam inserts? Looking for the perfect pick n pluck foam glue?
If you've been in the photo/video game for any length of time, you'll be familiar with this problem. You've tried to find the perfect pick n pluck foam glue, which left your cases in a sticky, hard mess. You've tried gaffers tape, which, lets face it, looks pretty ugly and doesn't work very well.
Well, after years of struggling with old deteriorating cases, we've FINALLY found the answer on how to make those pick and pluck pelican foam inserts LAST!
...The answer, is a very simple product called plasti dip, which we have road tested extensively and has worked an absolute treat for all our cases!

Howdy from the West (USA). I own Pelican, GPC, and the lesser knockoffs Apache cases to protect my drones and camera equipments. I appreciate the tip of using shoe glue to reassemble pieces of the plucking foam blocks. I already use the spray Plasti-Dip to reinforce the foam. A suggestion to all your viewers is when spraying Plasti-Dip wear a pair of disposable rubber gloves. Thank you very much for your tip on repairing the individual or blocks of pluckable foam. - 🇺🇸🙏🏻🐴👍🏻

Thanks! Just got an Apache case (less expensive Pelican knockoff) for my VR headset and removed a few squares on accident, plus I want the foam to stay in place as I take stuff out. This all should do the trick! (I just so happen to own some plasti-dip, too!)

Fellas, don’t use plasti-dip, use flexseal it gives a better look - coat until the foam cells are closed. Looks awesome

That Flexseal stuff stinks to high heaven! Yuck.

Whilst I still haven’t tried flexseal, Plasti dip has an odour too. I’d highly suggest a respirator for application and let it dry and the smell dissipate outdoors for at least 24 hours.

I spray the top, bottom (once the tops dried) and the sides of any internal sections I’ve removed. I don’t always spray the outer perimeter .

You have to let the case air out for a bit. The first 24 hours are the worst. If you leave it open (I suggest outdoors), it will be a lot better in a day or two. It does go away eventually.

How long do you need to hold the shoe glue per repair? And/or how long for it to dry before plasti dipping

Only a few minutes, but the longer you leave it to set, the better the hold. To be honest I probably don't leave it as long as I should. I tend to work my way around the foam with the glue, wait maybe 5 minutes, then begin spraying. I haven't had anything come away to date and we've done 20+ cases over about 4 years.

In essence, yes. The biggest issue with the pick and pluck foam that I found is that it breaks apart over time and use. This helps with repair as well as increases the longevity of the pre-cut case inserts.
