Thanks for the amazing tip! But I noticed that you put in the dirty filter back inside, why?
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial 2 года назад
Great question! Definitely install a new filter. That filter was relatively new. It only had a couple thousand miles on it. If I could do this video over again, I would definitely install a brand new filter to eliminate any confusion.

What's with the ventilator which gets sprayed with Lysol? I don't know any ventilator to get sprayed and get sticky wooden trees affect its operation?

Is the lysol residue that remains safe on the plastic, rubber and possible metal in the AC vent system?

Good video and I learned something! I did this earlier but my results were just fair because I was missing a step you showed here. After watching your video, I realized that the air vent setting should be rotated thru like top vent, foot vent etc. Question: Any Lysol disinfectant is okay or certain ones?
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial Год назад
Glad the video helped! Any Lysol should be OK. They all kill bacteria.

@@HowtoandReviewsOfficial have you heard of ozium sanitizer? If so, would that work?

Great will try tomorrow. Will it also work if i just run the heater while spraying lysol? Thanks
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial Год назад
I would run it both ways so it goes through all of the ducts. If you only choose one, choose the ac. The ac is what causes moisture in the ducts, rusting in bacteria growth.

I have paid the dealer to switch the air cabin filter several times, but to no avail. Obviously, I need something like this. The dealer (Cadillac) will do this for a charge, but they're probably doing no more than what I saw here. I am going to use something called Ozium which is used by hospitals just like Lysol. I have heard that I should remove the air cabin filter in order to not trap the chemical and allow it to circulate the system, then replace the air cabin filter with an aftermarket upgraded version. I have also read that the air fan speed should be on low (and not max) for optimum benefit. I live in Fort Lauderdale, so I need to get this process down.
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial 2 года назад
There are definitely slightly different ways to do it regarding fan speeds and such. I don’t think it makes any significant difference. If you spray disinfectant through the ducts, odor creating bacteria is eliminated, and the smell is gone. Don’t overthink it or lose sleep on small details. Send a can through the ducts and you are good to go.

Why's there vents on the driver side exterior? Should we spray that side?
@sagardesai3979
@sagardesai3979 2 года назад
Do you recommend running the heat for a while before hand? I heard it helps to do this before so any moisture trapped in the vents evaporates and so the Evap can dry off. I think most of us leave the ac on and that’s what causing this at least for us in south Florida.
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial 2 года назад
That’s a great point. For cleaning it out, I do not think it would make a difference. The bacteria creating the smell that’s in the vents is already established. Introducing the Lysol is what will eliminate it. During normal use, air conditioning and recirculation are the main causes. They result in moisture in the ductwork, which supports the bacteria growth. Back to your idea, it would probably be beneficial to run the heat at the end of every drive to clear out any moisture or condensation in the vents, preventing the problem from occurring. However, that Would be pretty ridiculous and it’s not practical.

do you need to turn the ac on when blowing away the Lysol residues? thanks for the great video.
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial 2 года назад
I personally would recommend not turning on the AC. The AC recirculate‘s the air in the car and does not pull fresh air from outside through the cabin air filter. I did this about six years ago and the smell has not returned. Work great!

Hi, thanks for the tip. My version is: when the a/c on, no bad smell; but when the a/c off, just the fan is on, there is bad smell. Any idea?
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial Год назад
I would treat it exactly the same. There is bacteria in the ductwork resulting in bad smells. This should take care of it!

The purpose for cabin air filter suck air from internal cabin not outside. There is an intact duct under the dash where the intake cabin air duct is located. You have to spray lysol inside that duct

won't it cause rust on the inside of air-conditioning system?
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial 2 года назад
The condenser is aluminum, so it will not rust. Also, it is typical for it to have water in it (it’s function is to remove moisture from the air), which is why it has a drain line.
@skydale5386
@skydale5386 2 года назад
Why not just change the cabin air filter? That what I did and it stoped.
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial 2 года назад
Sounds great. If that works, that is the way to go! Typically, the bacteria causing the bad smells is in the ductwork, and spraying the lysol through the system is required to eliminate the bacteria and the smells.

I dont think you actually used any Lysol in this video. I didnt see any mist. I also think you reused your old filter, even though you stated to use a new one. Are you a politician?
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial
@HowtoandReviewsOfficial 2 года назад
Lol! You are correct. I re-created it. I had already done this procedure five years previously (at the time of making this video) and the smell has still not returned. I made this video when the pandemic first started and products like toilet paper and Lysol were impossible to find, so I decided not to actually empty the priceless can. The filter was also pretty new. Didn’t need replaced. But, in videos since then I’m sure to actually perform the task.
