If everything isn't positioned properly the YOW Meraki surfskate truck can make noises, including squeaking, clicking, and rattling. Each of those three noises is made by a particular issue. In this video, I show you exactly how to fix all three issues.

Just bought a yow grom series for my son on black Friday. It made the clicking noise right out of the box. I googled and watched your video. Took it apart. No grease on the spring on the truck side of the adapter. I flipped the spring so that the greased side of the spring goes into none grease groove. Put back together and done. Thank you kind sir.

Your videos are excellent. Thanks so much for sharing all your knowledge and research! I went with a YOW Pukas Plan B after using your surfskate selector. Amazing tool. I love the board, but it's super squeaky, and now I know how to fix it! Skate on!

That's exactly what I did with mine to eliminate clicking. BUT I've also put some marine grease into that rotation limiting "pin"-channel pair because it also had signs of a metal-on-metal friction.

Steve, you mention that the ring inside is made out of copper. I think, but I’m not sure, that it is made out of brass. These type of brass rings are often used in bearings or even as roller bearings because they provide some natural lubrication. Olympic bars for weightlifting for instance typically have them. Don’t think copper provides the same function.

Yeah, I think you're right, I was just referring to the color. But now that you mention it, brass is a more accurate color than copper. 😂

I had a clicking sound on my YOW Aritz Aranburu, but the cause wan't the spring in the front truck. It was a bushing washer too tight. I loosened it up, applied some marine grease, and now it's back to normal.

Wow, this is interesting. Those skates are not inexpensive and to be sending out completes with 3 different quality control issues?!? This seems something that should be addressed at the manufacturing process. I almost pulled the trigger on one of these last month. Glad I didn’t lol

Yow is always out of stock, so you would think their products don't sit on the shelves long enough to be bone dry inside the core. This alone tells me they have a poor QC in their factory. Not everyone is technically inclined to take a spring loaded truck and dig for the problem and put it together correctly unless Yow is counting on people like you to do their job for them. Do that on a smooth star thruster and you void your warranty. Just saying these are not cheap surf skate and I think they can at lease provide a better QC before shipping them out to thier valued customer.

Awesome, Steve as always! Will de-click and de-squeak my Meraki as described! And if you find a way to de -rattle the Waterborne rear adapter that holds permanently I send you a bottle of champagne!! Cheers from Switzerland.
@SurfskateLove
@SurfskateLove 3 года назад
You're in luck, because I have the solution to that Waterborne issue: get rid of it! 😂😂 Sorry, I'm not a fan of the Waterborne. And especially not the rear adapter. I think it makes it way too divey, and hard to come back up to center. I much prefer a back riser with the Waterborne. But even still, I just like so many other trucks so much better than the Waterborne.

Grüezi, I have a Waterborne set too, got it for my 7yr old son's board after he took a shine to my YOW. Just installed it today on his normal 31" long board. Way to divey as Steve says below, with the rear adapter, even with his 25kg. But I have some very strange squeaks coming out of the front adapter! Now looking for 2x14mm risers and 2" long screws.. Also in CH, Zurich region. :-D

@danielhacki2562 3 года назад
@@SurfskateLove thanks, that’s a good one! :-) I will still stick to them as they work really well on a longer board (38’) for high speed carving and pumping! Agree with you that waterborne is not well suited for shortboards. Cheers!!

@@ColindeSilva Luckily, the squeaks are easily fixed with a bit of liquid soap on the front bushing (the rectangular one inside the adapter). Makes them also turn better. Ciao from Lausanne!

Thanks man! I took your suggestions from YT videos to get a Meraki. I opened up mine to put some grease and wax to prevent the clicking and squeaking. However, It seems my unit did not have the copper/brass rings inside. I'm gonna ask the store about it. Do you happen to know the measurement of that brass ring?

That's a VERY nice board, I'd bet you have to be one of the coolest people in the world to own/ride it. Super important note, ANY TIME you keep good maintenance on your board you're going to be taking off, and putting back on presumably, your nylon locking nuts on the truck, kingpin, and wheels. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS check to make sure that those nuts REQUIRE a wrench to torque down. Nylon locking nuts have a limited number of cycles they are rated to be used, and do wear out. I recently learned this the hard way, with a used board I received in the mail that had a wheel nut that you could easily remove with just your fingers. Unfortunately, I didn't figure that out until after a higher speed run down a hill, that wound up losing a wheel. Luckily, it was a back wheel, and was able to just ride it out, so the only bad thing that happened was the loss of a bearing, as well as an underwear change. But that situation could result in ruining your truck, and/or serious injury. Now, it's my own fault for being too excited to ride the board to give it more than a quick once over before riding it. But I just want to point out it's good practice to replace your nuts fairly often, and super important to check them every time you replace them, and most especially before doing anything upwards of 15mph where running out isn't a great option. But yeah, super nice board ;)

So much for comparing them with Mercedeses. Certainly not those of old. Become a wrench of the bat. I wonder what grease I´m going to put in there, “Marine" stuff being unavailable in these longitudes. Is it petrol based? Yow should reward you for this. And better finish their product. First time I tried to screw off a truck I ruined those screws as they were fixed very tight.

Actually, they recommend lithium grease not marine grease . Also for the bearings you do absolutely want to use the lithium grease not that speed crap it’ll literally dry up the first time it gets wet even if it doesn’t it will before you have to take the truck apart again. For those kind of parts that are not easily accessible you want to use grease. Now for your wheel bearings sure that speed cream crap is fine but in the actual truck use grease lithium grease.
