How To Fix Stiff Toyota Hood Hinges

Just a look at the anatomy of an older Toyota truck hood hinge set-up. Remove both wiper arms, remove the three phillips screws holding down the cowl panel, carefully lift off the cowl panel and access the hood hinge pivot points.

Can't beat nice and easy operating hood hinge. A little hard to get too but definitely worth the time. 👍👍

Hey Lloyd, Appreciate you stoppin' in. That hinge got so bad that the hood would hold open all by itself without the prop.. haha. I was worried that the sheet metal on the cowl would fatigue and tear. Fortunately everything was just fine. The pivot point is not in an area where it can be easily serviced, which is so unlike Toyota and there are not any videos on YT that I found on this topic, so I thought I would throw it out there for the next person who is experiencing this fairly common issue.

Nicely explained in half the time of a RU-vid 'Short', I did expect you to just repeatedly hit it with a hammer though.

Hey, great VID! I am assuming that I have to remove the hood to effectively get to the screws on that panel, and the two plastic guides on the ends. Or can I just push it out-of-the-way enough to get to the hinges once the screws are removed without removing the entire hood? Thanks again

Hey there. It would be easier with the hood removed but it can be done without removing it. My hood was off because I had just rebuilt the engine and was fixing a few other things in the process of the engine reinstall. Have a great weekend.

Most of my vehicles have been toyotas. 3 were pickups with 22R motors. I've swapped a lot of them. Good motors, even if you have a utility bed weighted down. My favorite was my blue 83 4x4.

I am a big big fan of the Toyota pickups...this is my third as well and have enjoyed many trouble free miles out of all of them.
