Just wanted to say thanks for posting this. Following your example, I just fixed my 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan's tachometer/speedometer. The needles were stuck in the "maxed out" position after I had alternator trouble, but taking the panel out, disconnecting it and turning it so the needles went back to their normal positions fixed the problem.
Hi, my idea was to check and reconnect cables again. Sometimes cable connectors are in small rust or loose and connection is so lost. The better idea is to change whole tachometer and dashboard to new or used dashboard.
Hi Peter would you please give me information whether I can replace my dashboard and Toyota 1998 which has no RPM meter. Is it possible to replace it with new one with RPM meter?
Hi there. Just wanted to say thanks for this video. I had a fault with the spedo rather than the tacho. The odometer was working but sdpedo was not. I unplugged and reconnected the two wiring harnesses and this seemed to fix the problem. Thanks for the detailed video.
@@simonvizuette3254 my 2007 has same problem, speedo went all crazy. Replaced my trans speed sensor and now speedo is at 0. RPM work though. Any thought?
I have a 2005 toyota corolla and I went to replace some dashboard gauge bulbs, mine looks nothing like all the other videos show. I can't find where to replace factory bulbs with leds. It looks like it's self contained. Any thoughts or tips ? Thanks so much !

I had a question about finding a short in the cables that lead to the tachometer or instrument gauges. My temp gauge goes straight to hot as soon as I turn the car on so i cannot know when my car will actually overheat. I have replaced the temp sensor, thermostat x2,water pump and took it to a mechanic who recommended I see a electrical shop but I wanted to ask you first to see if i can bypass the electric shop and find out if you knew how to look for a short in the wire leading to it. Can you help me. I have also replaced the instrument cluster gauges once as well.
my 98 corolla speedometer and odometer have been turning off and on recently, it does not keep track of miles when off. I will see if I can do the same thing you did in this video, I hope this works for me. I'll check back when I try it maybe tomorrow. edit. I was able to pop out my odometer and unplug the connectors and it appeared to work! I'll have to see how it functions when driving this weekend

quick question? I have the same problem with a 1993 Toyota Camry LE 2.2 litre. While watching your video I saw you unhook the two green wire connectors, but then it appears that you just rehooked them. I didn't hear or see any reference to any type of repair. Is that correct. I had transmission replaced in dec 2010 and they said the issue was in the dash and not in the actual transmission.

Hi. I bought a corolla yesterday from 2000. Realized a spinning sound from the dash/right side of steering. Shen the spinning sound starts the speed indicator jumps down and up around 3-4 km/h. Is it a wheel that is dead. Or cable. Is it hard and or expensive to change

I have a 2003 Corolla. Recently I have been hearing a noise on the driver side near the steering wheel ....The sound makes "errrrrrrrrrrr" The whole instrument board went out of control ( The needles are going up & down for the rpm , also the fuel needle . When cranking the car up and even when its off) its not stable ...Then the total number of miles will blank out for a while then return. In park everything is idle & once I change gear to drive that is when the problem starts . I need help ,what is a solution?

My 2004 Sienna tachometer, speedometer and fuel gauge not working all at once. I follow the instruction to unplug and reconnect one cable in the back with the key in and it work,however,once I remove the key and few minutes later reinsert the key, all three meters dead again. One time I unplug and reconnect it again and when it was working condition, I drove about 5 miles and everything all moving fine. But after removed the key half an hour, all meters dead again. Any suggestions for me, PLEASE ???
+Peter Finn , Happy Holidays. I try to unplug and reconnect the only one cable several times and always works. Even one time I drove more than 200 miles and every things moving. So it let me feel that how it is possible there are cuts in wire ? Do you have further opinions ?
Does anyone know where to attach a tach wire on a 1999 Toyota Corolla because I can't find out where to. I've been looking for weeks and am getting fed up. I'm gonna sell it for one with a tach if I can't find out how to hook one up. It doesn't have a distributor and runs and drives just fine.

I haave had this problem with a toyota fortuner infact most of my instruments were either flickering or not turning on then later turning on.. the prolem is to do with capacitors on the crcuitry.. change all the large capacitors on the board.. if that doesnt help change the other smaller capacitors that may help ..or check more youtube video and read comments
Sir Toyota RAV4 2014 is having the same issue. I un plug and plug it back still it doesn't work. Changed the fuse box, changed the instrumental panel it's still the same. I will need to return this car.

Hi Peter, 2005 Toyota Land Cruiser, Tachometer and oil pressure gauge is not working. Where is the tachometer getting the engine speed signal from? It is a 1HZ diesel engine. The speed sensor on the side of the fuel injection pump is connected to the emission control unit only. Beautiful sine wave. There is no CAN bus on this vehicle. How is the engine speed getting to the tacho? From the alternator? But I see no indication of that on the wiring diagram. Or is it a converted signal from the emission control to the tacho through a data able? The mystery of my life. Do you know what wave form I'm looking for and what the intensity is? As for the oil pressure, I have the resistance at the plug on the dash end, and when he dash is plugged in and I take the wire that goes on the oil pressure sensor down to negative I get 280 mA current , as if the circuit was complete. But the gauge doesn't move. However both the tacho and oil pressure gauge returns to 0 when the dash is plugged back in. Also the dash gets all positive feeds and negative too. What do you think?

Peter Finn Hi Peter, thanks for your reply, there's no one left to ask, everybody gave up on it including Toyota. I have made however a progress today, I found that the way this instrument panel is designed, if there is no engine speed signal (tacho) the oil pressure gauge is disabled. I gave a square signal to the wire that is the tacho signal wire and the tacho gauge moved, and the oil pressure gauge moved too at the same time. The tacho signal is going into the emission control unit sine (wave on two wires) but nothing is coming out of it (converted signal on 1 wire) . So for now we will replace the emission control unit which I believe will fix the problem.

I found meter board cluster with tachometer that suitable for my car. So i just want to know to fix that meter board cluster to my car do i have to arrange new wires for that? Heey i have a question my 1995 toyota Corolla when I accelerate it goes up but very slowly and it never reached the right speed im at and one of the numerical things that marks how many miles you've travel changes in the same number all at them at once would that have to be with the speedometer sensor or this itself

I have a corolla 2009 , yesterday I was cleaning the dashboard glass but I touch the tachometer accidently , now it read minus 10 for all meters I try to put them at same place but still after starting engine goes to the same wrong site . I have had this problem with my corolla for 4 years, most of the time it always works, but somtimes the tachometer dont work, i fix it by only tapping with my finger when the car is on, and it starts working, maybe its bad soldering or maybe i should buy a new tachometer i dont know
Samw problem what i did was take off the panel gauge then on the board i looked for capacitors and i saw 3 of them..changed them all and then its working fine now.
You didn't fix anything you just plugged it in correctly in fact you're not even really sure what you're working on it's an RPM gauge revolutions per minute. Not rotations
Yes, revolutions per minute, which is the engine speed, the cylinders turning, and another word for turning can be rotations, he did not say anything misleading, tbh you're just in the comments to act smart, don't do that, nobody cares that you know what RPM stands for, my Casio Calculator could probably know that not even needing to..
First off I can hardly understand you and you shouldve put cluster removal on your ad because its taking you way too long to take apart to get to your root problem.At least fast forward to the immediate problem..
