Hi! Today I'll show you (in really most cases) how to fix the HP "Ink System Failure" certainly without changing your printhead and saving a lot of money!
Did I help you saving money telling you how to fix your printer by yourself? If that's the case and you would like to contribute actively supporting my channel and the content I make, you can donate any amount you want (even 1$ is more than appreciated) to help me create better videos at the link www.paypal.me/paolomarcelli
Of course, if you don't want to donate I'll still be here for any question regarding printer repair.
How to contact me:
If you need help fixing your printer, leave a comment under the video you're watching. I always reply to the comments whenever I have some time.
For commercial requests, send me an email to the address you can find in the "about" section of my RU-vid Channel. Please consider that any email received for any reason other than commercial requests will probably be ignored. I don't have a service center and I don't do repairs for other people, I just make RU-vid videos on how to fix printers :)

I also concur re your "teach" i.e. teaching style. Enigmatic as it may seem, your very limitations in english gave me a touch of intuition thet you would have one of the better videos on ths subject! As for the rest, we all try and "e-help" each other and maybe make the "big $$$ boys" sit up and take notice!! In me tercero lingua (Queoted from the song "Mas alla" by Glorai Estafan): ¡ cuando quieres luchar por un ideal, hay una sonrisa mas ! Nobody would really need to know one word of Spanish if they heard me say this as part of a speech! Practical Translation: When you care to fight for an ideal, there is another smile! Now I am sure there would be a poignant way to translate that into Italian, as both are romance (emotively focused) languages, VERY unlike Englsih!

Thank you! I got my HP officejet Pro 8610 working! Thanks to you! When I got the error message "system failure" I assumed the printer was broke for good and went out to replace it. When I was no longer under the crunch of needing a printer ASAP I took the time to search RU-vid for help. I found this tutorial. The printer fixed when I took out and put back the print head. It said the ink cartridges were damaged. They were not, so I put in old cartridges, made it run with those, the machine didn't like the used cartridges because they were empty but the system failure code cleared. I then took out the empty cartridges and put back the cartridges the printer called damaged and the printer was back up and ready to go. I guess now I have both printers. Maybe I should consider starting a print service business! Thanks again for taking the time to create this video!

It turned out to be the dried ink catridge (non original) as the problem. Luckily I kept the old original HP cartridges around so I put them back in even though they were empty, the printer cleared the error. Now I know it is the cartridges being empty is the problem (if you are using the non-original ones, the original ones actually report the probelm okay.). Good idea to keep the old empty original cartridges around for sure. Thanks for the tip.

Hi. Thanks for the lovely video. Grazie mille! Having had the problem of Ink System Error on my HP8600 Pro 911a, and resetting the printer I am stuck on the animation video and unable to restore the printer to it's normal menu! Preventing me to proceed further on the printer. I have however been able to access the embedded web page and connect the printer through WiFi and before I play up the video through the display, the printer shows "ready" on the web page but when trying to print reports, etc. through the embedded web page, it says "printer busy" on the web page. The moment I play the video the webpage shows printer error and the Ink System Error appears on the display and goes into the animation loop. The normal menu cannot however be restored. Can you please guide or suggest how to go about restoring the main menu and further course of action to restore the printer to working. Grazie!

I have a T120 and have had this problem when I tried to use 3rd party ink replacement. I have found that the print head gets very dirty and needs to be cleaned. So I take the 4 inks out, then turn off the printer, then lift the main lid and slide the empty print head over, unlatch it, take it off, and run warm water over the print head while taking care not to get the circuit board wet. Then after a few minutes of rinsing off the wet ink jammed in the head, letting it run into the sink, I use a hair dryer with warm or cold air to dry off the print head as best I can. Then reinstall the print head, then the ink cartridges. This has worked two separate occasions for me, about a year ago and today. Obviously, don't just blindly trust someone saying put water on your print head, but research this option and do it if you're out of other options.
@PaoloMarcelli
@PaoloMarcelli 2 года назад
I would definitely not do anything like this :/ unfortunately using third party cartridges on those printers is a really bad idea that usually leads to a printhead failure. Ink leaks like that are not normal.

HP C5180 All-In-One Printer HARD RESET:Hold down HELP + OK button and unplug printer (could experiment with regular power-off, but I opted for brute force)Hold down HELP + OK button again as you plug the printer back in. Then power it on, if it doesn’t power on automatically. Be Safe: keep holding the buttons until the printer turns itself off. (It took mine less than a minute.)Now you can release the buttons and simply power it back on. (I held my breath, but that’s not required.)I got an error message about “improper shut down” since I unplugged it w/out powering down. After I clicked “OK” the printer was just fine and didn’t mind anymore. And now I can print.

I got into the hidden menu and did the semi-reset, restarted and still coming up with the same error. HP OfficeJet Pro 8600. I have the "Ink System Failure: There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If problem persist, contact HP." I have tried: reseating the printhead (more times than I can count). Removing individual cartridges and replacing them. Resetting by unplugging the power cord, then the cord from the wall, then waiting one minute, plugging back in. Cartridges have been shook and all have ink in them. Tried cleaning the printhead with commercial solution found on Amazon. The Magenta had a clog. Let it dry out completely and put it back in. Still have the same problem.

Hi, I just have a question for you? Do the HP inkjet printers have some type of computer chip inside them somewhere that has a certain amount of control on the printer? Before I forget, I own a HP7520 and I love it. Also, I just want to thank you for your help to all of us that are not experts with computer hardware...From: Frank.
@PaoloMarcelli
@PaoloMarcelli 7 лет назад
Hi Frank! Sorry for the delay :/ Every printer (not just HP) built after 2010-2011 will have a motherboard with a button cell battery on it, to keep the EEPROM on and remember the values even with the printer is off. Removing and reinserting the cell will not reset some informations like ink levels or most of the errors (like ink system error), it remembers date, time, copy and scan settings, and some other values like last cleaning cycle, last alignment ecc. This battery cell has been implemented mostly because printers have more sophisticated firmwares than before, and need to record some values even if you turn them on and then off! Your 7520 have this cell configuration for sure on the motherboard ;) Thank you for watching ;)

great info well explained in English! would love a work around for my HP officejet pro 8620 third party ink (IKong 950xl and 951xl). My printer has locked out the touch screen with error message, "There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off, then on. If problem persists contact HP," I have gone through all of these steps and still does not work. not out of ink, purchased my new printer in 2016. have ordered replacement cartridges. HP ripped me off, I will never purchase their ink again or products but paid a lot of $ for this printer.
@PaoloMarcelli
@PaoloMarcelli 4 года назад
So probably it's a failure within the printhead :/ unfortunately HPs and Canons all can have this issue. The best way would be to buy an epson with NON-STATIONARY cartridges to use compatible or third party inks.

@PaoloMarcelli
@PaoloMarcelli 6 лет назад
Do the printer gives you an option to keep using those cartridges? Even connecting it to a computer with the Driver installed? If not, maybe a recent firmware update made this impossible, or at least not obvious like before. Did the printer do the initialization or it locked before starting the ink charge? Paolo M.
@Drspeiser
@Drspeiser 6 лет назад
ADCSFXworks The printer itself doesn't give me an option to keep using the cartridge. It only shows the button in the left lower corner of the screen which says "show me". The other button which I have seen before, which says "OK" doors not appear. So I will try connecting my computer when I get home, and I will see what the computer says, and I will let you know. Thanks so much for your help, I really appreciate it

i had the same issue on my HP Officejet 7612. I had tried all sorts of reset (partial reset, OOB reset), except the full reset (no setup cartdriges available), but nothing was working for me. I also had tried to add the aluminum foil on the printhead circuit, but it did not help either. So, with nothing to lose, I entered in the service menu and decided to try the option “MFG”. A grid appeared on the print screen, and I let it run for about 5 seconds, then I unplugged the power cord from the printer. After that, I reconnected the power cord, and the printer started working fine again!

In my case, the 'ink supply system failure' error message was not caused by defective ink cartridges, or any software reason, but by the damper membrane of the cartridge pressurization manifold, inside my 952 printhead, having come unglued a bit, enough to prevent two of the cartridges from pressurizing properly. The fix: 1) Disassemble the printhead to remove the cartridge pressurization manifold. 2) With an X-Acto knife: trim both ends of the partially unglued acetate membrane on top of the cartridge pressurization weir ( a chambered labyrinth to regulate air pressure to the cartridges ), since the excess membrane material, on both ends, can unfortunately contribute to the membrane getting unglued whenever removing the ink pressurization manifold. Note: Do NOT peel off the membrane of the ink damper reservoirs instead, though - that's not the membrane we are talking about! 3) Peel-off the partially unglued membrane from the cartridge pressurization weir. 4) Clean the membrane with lighter fluid (best), or alcohol. Make sure not to wrinkle it in the process. 5) Apply superglue to the top of the walls of the cartridge pressurization weir ( preferably with a CA glue accelerator to minimize white fogging ), and gently reposition the acetate membrane. Wait a day. Make sure the tiny air outlet in the center, along the edge, is left unobstructed, though. 6) Reassemble the printhead.

I put the old regular cartridges in it and it pops up error message. The print head does drip a lot of ink though. Maybe the head is bad. I’m going to try to clean it with some solution. What a great post. I have a question. Can you use the start up cartridges more than one time?
@PaoloMarcelli
@PaoloMarcelli 6 лет назад
Hi, thank you! Yes you can, if you've bought a NEW set of setup cartridges! If you used some used ones that you refilled yes you can but it's risky, because that way the ink monitoring is disabled, and you could run into the situation that the cartridge is empty and you don't actually see it, and if that happens the printhead will overheat and give you an ink system error, or worse it will die! If you want to refill your own OEM ink cartridges, I think the best solution is to buy from aliexpress some auto reset chips (ARC) for the cartridges of your printer, ex. (HP 950/951 ARC), you replace the chips on the cartridges and you fill them at their full capacity, and you're good to go :)

HP Print System Error: Hello from Canada! 1) If there is a people who have little or no language pride, it is english speaking Northamericans, IMHO canadains even more than Americans. So if you make a language mistake, relax! It is often to go totally unnoticed or ignored! or maybe, if the mistaken item is truly inscrutabe, we just might ask you to repeat - so what! 2) as it happens, I speak english (native) French (a strong second) and Spanish third,. but unfortunately I never learned Italin when I might have. 2a) Also I love doing "explanatory translations" (that's what is needed when something in one language needs translating to another but it is not easily and effectively translated. 3) So Now, Having downloaded your video so I can listen to it while doing s6 other thngs and take my time to write a more in-depth response, let all "keep their ears peelrd" and I think we might be able to shed some light and so lighten! 3a) Along with, I am a 73 year old retired electronic technician and 95 % of what I know was learned from "the School of Hard Knocks." As is well enough known it IS hard knocks, VERY hard knocks, but it aisi is the acid truth! So when, over most of as lifetine all too many, both professional and otherwise failed to respect what I was determined to know from the age of 5, I "took the bull by the horns" (rqather than being obliged to face him but the other end!). sure I made mistakes, man. However that was never any license for anyone to misuse, and that latter fact has been effectively the greater life conern for not only myself, but also for posterity. All too often older people have no interest or desire to face what needs facing, however I stand as one exception. You Tube has played a good role in making alternatives to consumer market greed available. Often, using linux, I will downlod to listen, and then revist to comment later at my convenience. =================================================================== Now to the Printer fix, and seeing if it is adequately simple for the avewrage user as long as he/she has some reasobanble meaure of persistence. First (timeline 1:47) you mention a support facility that is not normally aval8ilable to the end user. HO could have many excuses for not making this user accessible, however concurrently, uit also serves their ends in terms of "planned obsolescence". In quebec, we have a "government guarantee" law that states that any complaint that shows (my transpation) that the purchaser has not gotten reasonable use of what they paid for has a llegitimate complaint and the seller may be held respobnsible to make good. However this appears inauspiciously of little effect as it has been economically overturned by bigger money interests. Having had some 50 or more years of technical exposure, I remember a few years back pulling an HP pronter otut of the garbage and resrtoring it as well as being able to run it in Linux. Of course I had neother the cable (easy to replace generically ) and no disk (Linux develops its drivers in what is known as CUPS (AKA Common Unix Printing System) and while this is a bit more complex than what one does in Ms Windows, it is also inherently more versatile. That said, when the "printheads in basket" pronters came out, I thiought this would be great. It appears notablty less to be so now, as It is not possible to simply remove that basket, purchase another at a local retailer replace and go. Having run into this problem, I looked on You tube and found some videos on the subject. Being one to be a stickler for details (and unlimately it pays off, unpopular as it is at times), I liked your determined approach to this one as that alone signals to the "big boys" that there are those out there who are rather rankeled with their use of planned obsolescence. to be continued...

2 Continued... 1) Changing Cartridges: In my case, I never used refilled cartridges. Second I have the Office Jet pro 7610 Large format. I am not about to transport this as it is much bigger and heavier than a letter or A4 size printer. Also it is on a network as it is too far from my computers to be connected USB, and also is shared amongst multiple Linux machines. So If it has to go to a shop, it will likely be scrapped and not replaced with anything of the like. (This model is an all in pone and scans up to 11"X 17" and pronts up to 13" X 19" (Super B). However it does not have a driver that allows for custom paper sizes, to me an annoyance, but not insurmountable). Now I will also look for signs of leaking cartridges. (this machine uses 4, but there are regular and large calacpty cartridges. I personally only use the large capacity.) 1b) Beofre changing cartridges, I scrutinized the cartridges for ink leaks. On the magenta cartridge there was a droplet of ink, but small it had a diameter of about 1 mm. and as such I would estimate a volume or1-3 microliters. (I base the estimate on my experience with glucometer blood requirements, as i have been diabetic for about 20 years. Roughly, a drop in the usual sense amounts to about 5 microliters, but current glucometers only require about 1.5 microliters.) As for removing the cartridges on thois machine it is similar, except that the cartridges come out by the front adfter having raised both the docoment feweder and the scabnner base (which serves as a cover for the printer. then there is another vertical plastic panel which snaps out at its top and swings down, exposing a rectangular hole/opening from which the cartriges are removed and replaced. The cartridges have no levers to lock themselves in, it is done be a toogle push-in, push-out mechanism. to be Continued 3...

2 Continued... I should have mentioned: I also have my limitations, as it happens I have a disability in relation to "small motor physical coordination". while incurable, it is not so serious as to prevent me from functioning, but it does result in a lot of typographical errors, and not all of them are cought with spell checkers. So don't be surprised if you see a few typoes. 1) Changing Cartridges: 1a) In my case, I never used refilled cartridges. Second I have the Office Jet pro 7610 Large format. 3 Continued... Parlance: at 4:56. Instead of "maybe never working" try "this alone may not be enough to fix the problem." (This is for more than one reason, but since you are going to persist further if it does not work, ot avoids the finality of the word "never" as some people might stop listening there, albeit their mistake! One more note (at 5:16) Reset the printer (5:11) As I had mentioned, my prointer is the oversize model that is related to why the cartridges in this model come pout from that vertical door in the front. the larger overall size of this model results in the height of the internal area where the cartridges slew back and forth is high enough that there is a notable amount of space above the cartriges and basket. When you mentioned that this is just the basic reset, you did well! this prewarns your audience not to be confused if or when they should encounter the major reset later. "forwarned is forarmed!". Next, when you told us to unplug the power card ("hard power down") I think it would be a good idea to also unplug both the USB or ethernet connection, as well as any telephone line connection during the hard power cycle. this is because sometimes these lines may back a small amount of power into the printer, potentially latching up the interface chips (the integrated circuits whose "first line" job is to receive and send the signals to and from the printer to other equipment). then, just before re-powering, reconnect them. Be sure you have labeled them so you will know which goes where after unplugging them. this is especially important with the telephone (RJ-12 connectors) which manage both the fax, and the distinctive ring features in models where these may exist.) (Note; your telephjone service provider may have different names for "distinctive ring" as it is a service provided by them, but which uses features that mnay be built into yOur equipment). to be continued 4...

4 continued... 6:16: "remove and reinsert Print Head: By about 6: 48 I had seen how you removed the print heads from your model. However in the Office Jet pro 7610 oversize this is physically not the case. Now I have two options: 1) I can look for a video that shows that model with the print heads being removed. If I find an adequately explicit (audio and visual) demonstration for the 7610 oversize model, I can use that and link back here later. If not, I will have no choice but to do it "hacker style" myself. this may or may not be successful, as this model is known to have had some unrepairable issues in the past. when I encountered those at the time, I swas able to get a replacement for the entire printer, although the ancillary transportation issues cost me close to half the original purchase price. (Complicated logistics procedure excluded here). If I do that, I will document the effort for my personal support files (backed up and kept offline for preservation). However, I am not in a position yet to start uploading videos and I am not planning to do so with any form of monetising. I take the role of the staunchly independent "street teacher", never accepting p[ay that might become a corrupting beholding. (Also the degree of "creeping socialism" here is enough that any such income or taxible benefit frm anywhere would more than be taxed out of my hands, a loss to all.) End for now.

Hi! Thank you for your contribution and for telling your experience to anyone will read in the comments :) and also thank you for the "never" thing, I didn't know this behaviour of apparently many people! Personally I think that removing and reinserting your printhead wouldn't get things better, because the contacts plate in the rear of the head I shown in video is different for the 7610 (basically it has three flat cables sticking in their connectors, and it's really hard to get an electrical mismatch in that case). If you'll have to replace the printhead, the most economical way (granted that you can spend more than one month for the delivery) is this www.ebay.com/itm/222660163625 In order to remove and replace the printhead on your printer, you need to lift the scanner unit, and then you'll have full access to the printer internals, then remove a plastic cover, you'll have then to unlock 2 springs and then remove the printhead disconnecting the three pre-mentioned flat cables, it's not so difficult but of course I think a textual description of what to do won't be enough, you need for sure a video, and that's it! :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zvz2LkT-dLU.html Yes it's not english, but it's not so hard and you can see everything. Hope it helps Paolo M.

My 6700 had an error message that there was a printer or ink system failure and I could not reset it. I followed your advice and flushed the black nozzle with 40ml of tap water and the printer started working after that. I ran align print head and clean printheads after this. The water does run up and down quite a bit so make sure you swab the whole length of the trough in which the print head sits. Next time I will not buy an inkjet printer. The drink the ink even if not printing. I used this only for scanning and after 6 months needed to replace the cartridges which had been exhausted buy the start-up process. Next time I am getting a laser.

We have a new DesignJet T520 and just finished the black ink starter cartridge. We tried installing a compatible black ink cartridge but the printer gives a "missing or damaged ink cartridge" error. Why are there tons of compatible HP711 out there if HP prevents the use of them? Is there a workaround this detection scam?
@PaoloMarcelli
@PaoloMarcelli 6 лет назад
There's no scam at all... Your printer uses PIGMENT BASED inks, every compatible cartridge contains really cheap DYE INK, if you're ok to damage your printhead it's fine, but I suggest you to at least buy some auto reset refillable cartridges and fill them with some high quality pigment based ink, like InkTec. Consider that everytime you update your printer's firmware there's a chance of any compatible chip to fail.

How about HP Photosmart D7360 from the year 2006/2007, not being able to use HP 02 compatible inks from Ebay, nor able to use a set of auto reset chips from Aliexpress, reporting 'Ink system has failed. Unable to print. Error: 0xc18a0106' even though ink levels are all full, the printer has always printed perfectly & never had any problem or fault before, so what could be the problem here, the printer gives the error from the beginning right after booting up even before doing the warm up sequence refusing to do a print head cleaning and/or alignment or even try to do any print at all? Thank you.

There is an extra menu by pressing cancel+print+power buttons together. Then there are special key combos entered in sequence which are: zoom(-),zoom(-),photofix; zoom(-),photofix,zoom(-); and zoom(-),photofix,photofix. The last combo gives access to boot code menu that allows the boot mode to be set to mfg. I tried this but unfortunately it does not work out for me. zoom(-)/(+) are for up/down, photo fix button to enter/choose, cancel button to come out of the current option/menu. Maybe HP does not allow Photosmart D7360 to use compatible ink cartridges.
