I have a bit less expensive option for the white bubble turret. You could use the 4x4 dome piece the piece name in pick a brick is "DOME Ø32". While it would be a bit bigger, it would be less expensive than the other bubble you used...I don't have an idea for the underside though. If you look at the screenshot you used at 5:46, there is a laser cannon on the underside of the wing bubble, so you could probably do something with that and make it look bubbleish.
@melgoats1453 the one in aotc has one door that doesnt close all of the way. the doors on the clone wars version closes all of the way and has 2 doors. there is no version with just 1 door that closes all of the way
9:41 I welcome the challenge regardless. Despite the flaws with newer lego sets, I love that they get my creative juices flowing to make newer improved designs.
Picked this set up. Added the missiles on top using the mechanical claw and silver light silver hilts that makes it look more like a missile. I also tiled off around it. Also doing a mod of the wing stud shooters taking them away and utilising the pieces to make a light as per the Mandalorian chase scene with lights on the Gunship wings
Loved how you used the parts from the handle to make the flick fire missiles! The handle also gets a modification for a 2013 style handle since you took off those parts and reused them! Amazing video David!
Good to see these fixes to the set on so many channels hopefuly Lego gets aware of these. I'm wondering what there thoughts were on making these changes when they had other iterations being so good. Some if not most of them are easy fixes. Still bought this with the ghost on day one with a nice discount on both of them 😄can't wait to add these fixes!
The colour change was something I was thinking of doing myself but because of a lack of money that idea went out the window swiftly, it would be epic if you did a colour change!!!!
I also don’t know why LEGO didn’t implement these features when designing this set. I’m surprised they didn’t even include a small build or tools rack for the space.
They didn’t implement these features because this set is made for 9+ kids. With the more accurate ball turret there would be no firing play feature that all Star Wars sets have. The double doors aren’t durable enough. The back doors are because they are held on by two arms but the front one would be very flimsy and fall off if any kid tried to play rough with it. I don’t see any other way Lego could have made the front doors more stable without making the gunship look bad. The missiles on the back are the only thing that they should have included.
I would consider buying it now that I know there are some good modifications I can do to improve it, but I'm still gonna buy the Ghost instead of the gunship. Also I would love to see you make it into a regular white and red gunship. Love the content, keep up the good work!
honestly, it really is not that significant of a difference. It doesn't look "sO mUcH bEtTeR" it just looks a little better. Which is why i hate lego fans ragging on this set because honestly I love this gunship design and is probably my 1st or second favorite one.
The fact that it's so easy to add the double doors just shows how lazy these designers really are when it comes to prequel sets Edit* Also wanted to say I enjoy this "Fixing what lego missed" video, and I think you could apply the same concept to other Lego sets the community has been unhappy with. A color change video would be cool
My biggest issue really is the single door and the empty space under the cockpits. Really don´t see a reason on why lego did that. I understand the ball turrets though as it adds more play features than just a dome
So irritating how just a little more extra work on LEGO's end could've made this set a real show-stopper. Great job with the double doors... I do not know why this is so hard for a set designer to do... I made the statement that it would be smart to wait for modification guides before deciding on investing in this set. I was not wrong, great job with the modifications. On with a personal gripe, only two troopers and a commander for a transport? LEGO is really cutting corners, not only with quality issues like the doors but with quantity issues as well.
I see a window near to your legos. i have a question don't you affraid that sun light will destroy your legos colors? i m asking bc im getting more curious about that kind of thing
I miss the days when larger flagship sets used to include mini builds that complimented the main builds, like the AT-RT that came with the turbo tank (2010) or the bacta tank with the '08 gunship. Stuff like that just added more life to the sets and it's a shame that Lego doesn't really do that anymore.
Yeah totally agree gunship needed the double doors for ease of use. Definitely mod my copies. But I rly think the gunship issues and flaws have been overshadowing the flaws and issues of the Ashoka sets.
Yes to your question. To take it a step further, do it for each legion! Ex: Wolfpack, 501st, Horn Co., 212th, Geonosis, munnilist, etc. (a guy's gotta ask, right?... For the Republic!) I have several custom gunships purchased a couple of years ago and those designs were better than the official Lego set. Cool mods and agree with everything stated.
Looks good but I’m not that keen on the rockets and command center because it is a “police” type of vehicle and those details make it more of a military vehicle. In my opinion a small medical station/stretcher and remove the launchers would have been better
Look Firebird Bricks turret mods, they're fully round, no modified plate with clips or handle bar on the bubble, also sits flusher/cleaner. Love the interior and door mod tho.
Yes please do a recolor of this gunship I think that would be really helpful towards me because I never had a gunship before and I started to take up a job so I can start making enough money to get it do the recolor and double doors mod side really appreciated if you do the recolor mod
i know why they don't have the double doors on the original model, It is because of the door on the nose of the ship, that way they can have both doors open at the same time. As you can see in your double door design it covers the fold-up door/hatch...
