Thank you for your expert answers and presenting it so politely. I know I personally feel so ashamed when I've made a hair color mistake and I get a hairdresser that makes it worse by complaining about fixing it. You are truly a talented professional!!
A lot of people tend to overuse blue and purple shampoos, thinking that they'll extend the life of their toners when in reality they're cutting it instead because the pH is slightly higher than normal shampoos (this is also why people find these types of shampoos to be drying to the hair). Yes, toners start to fade after a period of time, and that is when these types of shampoos should be used.
Love the sweater! Sublime is one of my fav bands, I’m a 90s girl! I ordered it and a Nirvana oversized tshirt dress from UO! It’s supposed to be delivered tomorrow.
Excellent information, thank you! I'm suffering from issue #2 and that solution will help get me through until finding a professional to fix it...which is not easy to find!
Love this... can you do a video like this where you show us products/toners that we can get to correct color issues if we are not a stylist and want to fix the issue ourselves. I personally can't get Redken toner, and even tried to a couple of times on Amazon and they weren't authentic products.
Hi dear, I absolutely looove your videos but I am a bit lost when it comes to all the products SEQ and processing and bonding etc. - I wondered, did you already do a video for “beginners” to teach about how to mix and what is for what? I would love to watch that ♥️ Greetings from a fan in Denmark 🇩🇰
Love this! Since transitioning to (or trying to) go from full head blonde to a darker shade, ie a pretty, light, soft, and maybe shiny brown, with light pieces, or a red/copper or anything that would suit me other than “full head” blonde, I’ve had nothing but disasters from a few different hair dressers! Despite showing plenty of pictures, despite saying what I like and don’t, despite being kind, courteous and considerate when I go back upset that it’s “orange” or basically looking like a box dye disaster I did myself, (I’ve spent a fortune) yesterday I went back after it was messed up 2 weeks ago, instead of taking up her time to get a quick free touch up, I went back to pay for a service with again the pictures, hoping I would get what I wanted finally!!!! Nope…. I got another box dye looking orangey disaster that I phoned her and started crying today! Now I’m back in again tomorrow for a free colour correction which I hope will finally be a nice pretty colour!! I have heavy things going on atm that are weighing me down and with some important events coming up and for my mental health, my hair looking nice would really help me. What is going on…. I practice positive mind-set so I always expect the best outcome, I am always respectful, I just don’t understand Wtf is going on. Anyone else had/have this trouble. If I went back shouting and writing horrible reviews like some people but I don’t. I just want a good hairdresser that I can stick with 🤬
Can you do another color theory video? I loved the one you did several years ago (2014?) on how to fix orange bleached hair. it was really helpful to understand the color theory especially since a lot of us are doing our own color at home during the pandemic.
Hello Ellie, Thank you so much for your videos, I love your composure and class, it’s a pleasure seeing and listening to you. I remember in one of your videos you said that in order to lift hair from level 4 to level 5A you have to lift hair to level 6 and tone it with ash to bring the colour down a level. That makes a lot of sense but I am confused on what to do in case one wants a neutral undertone instead. Lifting one level would leave a warm undertone so would a blue toner solve the issue? Again, wanting to lift level 4 dye into 5N. I would greatly appreciate your reply. Many thanks!
Hi! Really enjoying your videos. Was wondering if you can recommend an at home highlighting kit (from a drugstore)? Salons are still not open near me and would love to have highlights but I don’t have access to professional salon hair color. Just wondering if you have any suggestions until I can get back to the salon?? Thanks so much!!
Hi Sylvia! Thank you so much for another amazing educative video ❤️ I have a quick question! For scenario #2, are you bleaching the root first before applying the toner formula? I would think so, but just wanted to double check. Thank you 🙏🏼
ellebangs ? The picture you show would have to be lightened by bleach (from what you have taught me) so shades Eq has bleach? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sf23jshsxQE.html
i bleached and color my hair yesterday but it didnt achieved the color i want it to be.. can i recolor my hair a day after bleaching and coloring it? hope you answer. thanks in advance.
Helpful video thanks I do have a question is situation #1 something I can do myself at home? If so how long do I leave the solution in my hair and also do I put the solution all over my hair? Thanks for your help have a wonderful day!
I tried to find a dark brown level three cool tone color, but the color turned out copper on my gray roots! Do I need to use a blue color on my roots before finding another dark brown hair dye that is actually cool in tone? And do you have any recommendation for a level three dark brown cool toned color? Thank you 🙏 😀
Thankyou soooo much......my clients who are blondes pull gold‼️ I’ve tried ash colors by redkin & went too dark.....horrible.....so will try your suggestion. I wish you had showed an after color, dried, on the #2 solution but assuming it will be sort of dark with the 6N......might just use the 7N in hopes it will be the perfect cool blonde
Love your hair! Quick question: I recently dye my hair and the color turns out the roots are way brighter than other parts. How to fix my roots. Color I use is KAO Prettia bubble hair color, milk tea brown. My natural hair is dark brown
Luv ❤ luv ❤ luv this. Ms. Silvia I have been wanting to ask you for awhile, about what you taughts were with the fanola craze. Maybe you can do a separate vid on the fanola products.
Thanks for sharing 👍. Quick question: do you recommend the same 5oz of colour on shoulder fine hair or could i get away with using less? These colours can only be purchased in 2oz bottles. 😊
Great advice I’m a shade of blonde but want it one shade lighter now I know what to ask for . It’s hard to find a good stylist/ salon in VT 🙄 my life long search lol!! I was like a platinum more color is what I need but just needs to be kicked up a a bit. But I’m loving my darker roots which I did myself ( thanks to ur great videos) 👍👍💕
Please explain what seq is. Maybe hold up some products and explain more about how to get the red tone out of a 5N hair color. Thanks..these videos are really helpful..
Hi. I’m 60 years old and have very white roots and box dye dark brown I’m seriously thinking about a salon visit to get my hair bleached So that I can tone my hair and not have to worry about my roots. Is this possible ?
curious, are you wanting to “go grey or all natural “? because bleaching & toning the ends is one possible way to achieve this goal...🧐 i hope Sylvia answers your question.
laurapicht Yes wanting to go all over silver / grey. I’ve been to the salon I’ve have my head bleached I’m now very blond. Next appointment is to go grey
Congrats on the New Channel!!!🎉Question: I asked for Neutral, my hairdresser matched the copper streaks going through my natural hair, now I have very Warm hair at about a level 8. Will I use your 'Brunette Fix' just substituting in 8 N SEQ?
Long story short my hair lifted during a bleach bath and I was left with red/orange from roots to mids and blonde ends. Majirel cool cover brought me back to brown but it has shone back bright orange ever since. I attempted toning a test section with the shades EQ 06N which made my hair appear darker but did not neutralise any of the orange. I then followed this with a mix of 06N and 06VB for a similar situation - a very strange toned dark brown with orange shine back! My cool tone level 6 roots are coming in and it's looking worse as time goes on. Hairdressers have been shut for months and I'm stuck - would really appreciate help!
To neutralize, use the opposite color on the color wheel. Color doesn’t lift color, so choose a shade or two lighter than your desired result. Here’s an easy way to remember: Halloween, orange/blue. Easter, yellow/purple. Christmas, red/green (ash). Notice each warm color is toned by a cool one, and visa versa. That’s why the 06N didn’t tone, and only made it darker.
When I had reddish / orange brown roots, I would use a blue / violet-based colour, but it didn't work. It DID tone down the orange, but gave the red a richer tone instead of a cooler tone. Because...violet is comprised of blue and red. RED! NOOOOO! lol. If you can get Redken Shades EQ, maybe try a 6T (titanium, grey-based) or a 6NA (neutral ash).
My hair is currently issue #3 the brown version and I want to solve it at home. I’m in the U.K. so can’t buy the brand you’re promoting. Could you recommend some other brands that might be available on Amazon or something? I’m tired of wasting money and damaging my hair. Thanks 🙏🏼
The darker you go, the more warmth you can remove, but if you are wanting to cut out a lot of warmth and stay a bit lighter or have more of a subtle root smudge, you could go for a 7N and 8NA (natural ash). Lighter, but the ash part would target that warmth.
Can you help me? Last week I highlighted my hair into lighter cool ) I was natural before. Now my hair is too light.. the tone is flattering but the highlights are very close to the roots and I look like a blond. How do I darken my hair a little bit? Lowlights? Darker toner?
In the first example, wouldn’t bleach with ten volume lift the darker hair at the top into a brassy orange or yellow? I’m trying to lighten my blond balayage (to erase yellow) but keep my darker top
Thanks Elle for your videos! they are really useful in these times .. I was curious to know what is the result for the case #2 after applying the 6n +7n ? would it be dark blonde? I have the exact colour and would love to stop using bleach !
I was wondering the same bcuz i looked up the colors and although they're ash which i understand combats the orange, they seem kind of dark if ur looking to stay blonde. So im wondering what the outcome would b??
She said that formula was just for the roots only to tone out the warmth in that zone. If you’re blonde and want to go back to your natural you need to be filled or else the color won’t last.
I tried to dye my (growing out highlighted naturally blonde hair) med ash blonde. Instead all the unhighlighted parts went orange. Classy. So I should follow tip # 2. I’ve already spent lots of $ on purple toner, shampoo etc though & I’m sort of getting used to it.
Wondering if u tried it and what the outcome of the color is?! Please kindly share if u did, i want to try it but im afraid tge colors may b too dark..
I have previously dyed my hair a lot with differet tones of box dye and right now I have 3 tones to my hair, a light copper orange from mids to ends, a mid section that's a darker copper brown colour from when I dyed my roots before and then my root colour that's grown in right now. I want to dye it all one colour again and I'm not sure how to go about it to make it all one colour with the box dye I have. Should I lighten my roots with bleach first and bleach bath the darker copper to make it as close to my lightest colour and then dye over it all or put it on my roots, then mids and leave it for 10 mins and then apply to my ends?
Elle I have a question, I bleached my hair with a box bleach then it’s was white at the roots/yellow&orange&blonde so I then got a toner and now it it’s grey! I tried to use a clarifying shampoo it hasn’t helped! what do I need to do to get to a pretty blonde color or at least a normal color this is awful! I started with reddish/blonde hair that was done at a salon
Sylvia, is there such a thing as a toning shampoo to keep hair of a more neutral shade?? I've only got the purple/silver toning shampoos which can end up making hair more of a silvery tone but I'd like to try and keep it more buttery neutral tone!! TIA
Tiny Bubbles 1985 the one I’ve tried is by John Frieda, they have different shades for different hair colors and desired toning effect or just a shine gloss 😊 hope that helps! There’s always google too 🙃
I went to see a hairdresser 2 weeks ago because i have the problem number 3, i'm naturally a dark blonde, neutral ish from my virgin hair & the bottom half is old dye.. she put a level 6na on my hole head and i legit have brown hair... i went from natural/neutral to almost a dark brown/ash.. not what I wanted at all. I just thought she was gonna put a toner and slighty neutralize my color. Now I been washing my hair everyday to get rid of the dark pigment and my hair is even more brassier than it was before.. how is that possible if she put 6na on it? I did the vitamin c treatments like 3 times and it did lighten it ( thank goodness) but its just super brassy even where my virgin hair was, will the color eventually fade out completely out of the virgin area? Its been 2 weeks.. almost 3.. i pray it does. She put demi - permanent on it. Let me process for like 40 mins or more. Also could a shampoo help the brown hair, like no orange fanola? I obviously cant go get it fixed because the world is shut down but will it eventually all fade out? I just miss my virgin neutral color.. :(
was that 'old dye' a permanent dye? If so, then your hair got lifted and it revealed the brassy tones in it. You might want to tone it with a level 7 with icy or ashy in the name (or add some amount of blue booster, never more than 50%!)....or just remove all the brass by bleaching it out (that's harsh) and balayaging into your natural virgin roots so you won't have a demarcation line when it grows. When you bleach out, tone with a 9 or 8 mixed with 9.
Hello, I have bleached blonde hair that I haven’t touched up for too long (2 inches) until tonight. My natural regrowth is black. I used Wella 1290 and level 40 peroxide and ended up with light orange and some yellow tones. Can I follow step #2 to darken my roots and step #3 to tone down my hair like your example picture, except a bit lighter?
I need to find a good hair stylist I wish you could do my hair. I have had so many people lately that suck. Do you know how to find a blonde specialist that is very good.
No. Sally's blows, it's the equivalent of box dye crap. It's just how they get poor people, when you can buy high end brands for the same price sometimes.
wearefireworks well, that’s not helpful. As a “poor person” myself, I’ve gotten pretty amazing results on my hair - everything from hot pink to platinum blonde - from Sally’s. You just need to REALLY dig in and do your research beforehand, and do not trust the employees in the store. OP, use a 10 volume developer or even a 6vol if you can find it (I think they have a 6vol Wella developer at Sally’s now).
Marcia McDevitt hi there. All of the professional colour lines have Semi and or Demi permanent colours. That is what Redkin Shades EQ is, a semi permanent colour that hairdressers use as a toner as well, even though it’s meant to be applied as a semi permanent colour. Works in both instances. However, all or almost all hair lines have both permanent or semi/demi permanent colour. I think Goldwell is at Sally’s, and Goldwell has beautiful semi permanent colour! It’s no real advantage using different colour lines with different developers only because they are meant to be used together. Sometimes a different developer will work properly sometimes they do not. Hope that helps a bit, Sally’s has some great stuff and usually the people working there are pretty helpful picking the right product for you.
Thankyou. I have that plast problem with brown hair. My hairdresser has put a 5/0 all over and now the ends are too dark. I have my roots as a 5/0 but want my mid length and ends lighter. I only re colour mid length and ends once a year and by then it looks similiar to your issue 3. I was wondering if i 6/0 would help it. Would this be with a 20vol developer?
Elle..i have a question...i just had my hair highlighted, when I got home and brushed my hair, It started coming out in handfuls!! When I went back she said this was "normal shedding" when going blonde.....i have been coloring my hair for 40 years and NEVER had this happen!!! My hair is now thinner, thank goodness it stopped coming out... I paid 130.00 for this mess...( I went from a reddish brown to blond highlights..so it's not like I went from dark to blonde) So is it true that that is " normal" because I don't believe it is!!
Ouch I'm not a hairdresser my mom was a licensed Cosmetologist, no it's not normal she over processed your hair. What a bad one. Sylvia maybe able to give you insight on what to do to restore your hair. Unbelievable she stated it was normal. Harsh.
Hi Elle 👋 I’m having the worst time with my hair. base color: 1/2 medium blonde 1/2 dark blonde The problem I am having is that I do my own highlights and it just doesn’t seem to get blonde enough. I’ve used 20 volume with bleach and 30 volume. Doesn’t seem to do a whole lot. I know died hair is harder to lift. Please help me 🙏... what can I try???
What the substitute toner for Sally’s beauty supp products for the 09p seq and 09n seq ? I’ve been trying to figure out how to get a ashy root color with blonde. And I can’t figure it out .
I love your chanel! You are such a professional I would give everything to have such a specialist in Poland! Thank you for all amazing tips you are the best!
Hi, thank you!! I had awesome hair, then got bored in quarantine, and now I’m your problem #2. Help! I’m going to try and wear a hat for a week, and then create the formula you recommended... or my question is, can I use the box I have of Clairol root touch up 7 (matches dark blonde shades)?
Love your videos Silviya! I've actually gone copper, level 8-9, with a 6 base and I love it! That was my first time in for a touch up and I'm ready to get more copper, so my wonderful hair dresser can lift a few more pieces to get the result I would like the next time and every third or fourth visit he can lift more if I want. If people communicated better with their stylist I'm sure they're would be a lot fewer disasters! 😂 😂 xx
Oh gosh, sadly I disagree. I couldn't have communicated more with mine. She simply couldn't get the color of red correct, I faded after a shampoo to orange. I color myself now and I love it! Last summer my daughter wanted platinum. She wouldn't get it to the lovely platinum color, instead it was yellow. She refused to tone, she would only put purple conditioner on her hair and leave it for 30 minutes. Also telling me to have her do this to achieve the platinum she was seeking. I knew it wouldn't, so after awhile when my daughter realized it was never going to be anything but yellow, she let me color it. If she decides she wants to be platinum again, I'll take her elsewhere. That cost a lot of money for her to walk around with yellow hair, a hairdresser that refused to do anything other than apply purple conditioner on her hair.
@@luv2garden132 that's not so good for your daughter. I used to colour my hair myself but I've got 2 degenerative conditions in my spine so I'm no longer able to stand and do it. It's hard enough washing and drying my hair! Glad you've found a shade of red you like and there's loads of good colour maintainers on amazon, Sallys etc, happy colouring xx
Help!!.I haven't stopped crying..I went in as a blond asking for auburn highlights n when done I am totally black /gunmetal gray w some white streaks so drastic soo destroyed..what should I do?? I am absolutely devastated
I have a question ! I have a set of Bellami hair extensions they are the 340 grams boogatti set butter blonde I was wondering how I would be able to tone them down to match my hair color ?
I have virgin level 6 hair and went to salon to get baby kites around t bar. She lifted it to a creamy yellow and toned it with as toner. I was with yellow green muddy mights and grey strands on the ends. Is there anything that can be done?
Hey! i'm hoping you can help me with my hair problems. So long story short one of my cosmetologists friends did a strand test on my hair (after dying my hair since 5th grade a dark brown or red) my hair did not lighten. After 6 months of waiting i finally decided to do another strand test on myself so it did lighten but not drastically its like a med-light brown color, i cant tell if it has a orange tint to it. But if i did bleach my whole head and it comes out looking orange could i still put a light ash brown onto my hair to eliminate the orange? Thanks in advance!
Absolutely love your videos! I just found you and I'm so glad I did! I have issue #2, after I went to new stylist for highlights and root/grey touch up. My roots are ORANGE! Highlights are fine. I have seq6n and 7n and seq developer. Do I apply to wet hair or dry? I will NOW be doing my own hair forevermore! I've never touched it myself but it can't get much worse:((((
@@Milaurysortega Hey I mixed 6 and 7 Redken Shades EQ, covered orange part of my hair (my regrowth at my roots) while hair was dry. I left on for about 30 minutes, not covered. No more orange but my highlights were darkened! I waited a couple weeks and did my own highlights (redken flash lift bleach w/ 30volume developer, foiled, 20min- better than my original stylist) Ellebangs rocks!!!! LOVE HER!!!! I'll never go to another stylist unless I can get in with her💖
courtney swartwood-pacanins I need your help I’m gonna try this at home a stylist just messed my hair up so bad I don’t want to take my hat off or I wear a bun. She left me with what my kids call a “90s sitcom mom look”. It’s like bright blonde but then has these awful hues of very warm color and it’s like splotched. I was wanting lowlights added and my blondes refreshed with a money piece of blonde I got none of this. She didn’t even know what a money piece was and then for not giving me a money piece she managed to singe the front pieces of my hair. Can you show me an after lifetime somewhere and a before because I’m desperate and can’t afford to go to the salon again going through a divorce and I feel hideous! 😭
We moved in to a home with a well!! So to say the least my hair is a hot red orange mess. My hairdresser continued the last two years, applying blonde color over this mess and never treating. I finally swapped hair dresses and now see my aunt who is just trying to fix the damage. So today we did a treatment to break off that layer of buildup. My hair is orange and won’t process color and I have since cut 7 inches of my beautiful long icy blonde hair to now a short ornage mullet maybe. God help me !!! Do you any answers for me that I can pass on😟😟😔😢😭. My anxiety is so high and I feel as if I have spent so much money on hair appointments and products and nothing has worked. However I know my aunt is going to do the best she can with out shaving my head. But I want my blonde hair back. Is it even possible?? Should I just go dark ??? Should I never wash my hair in my house again?? I am so afraid !!!
you have a build up of minerals on your hair ...ask for a demineralizing treatment similar to ones done on “pool” hair ( people that swim a lot get a chlorine build up ) or look for a chelating shampoo use 2 times a month ( over use could cause more dryness ) maybe try a vinegar rinse mix 1/3 cup of apple cider vinegar w/qt of distilled water, shampoo hair , rinse and apply this solution, rinse w/ cold water. also look for a T3 shower filter...be sure use a moisturizer mask after these clarifying treatments...it may take a while.but you will get your hair back on track 😇
What purple shampoo can I use on my highlights to make it more buttery and take the brassiness out. I need to use a shampoo without sulfates because I have keratin treatment on my hair.
You can try “not your mothers” purple shampoo, it’s sulfate free! It doesn’t work as great as a fanola or shimmer lights but it’s very gentle and will help tone down brass!
Any suggestions for hair that won’t hold toner for more than 2 weeks even with minimal heat and blue and purple shampoos .. happens if I am blonde or brunette which I am currently
they used to call it a 5 week color back in the day cause women would only get their hair “done” once a week...now a days ppl want to wash their hair “every” day...which is not always necessary...causing the color to wash down the drain, you could try a roux mousse/foam to keep color vibrant..and a non sulfate shampoo could be you next best friend ❣️
For hair problem no2: how is the combo of shades eq (which from what I understand is a toner) that u listed going to help to lighten the roots so that they match the rest of the bright color u have growing out if it's not lifting it like u mentioned in hair color issue no 1??
It's not meant to lift the root. It's just meant to tone the root so it's not too warm / orange / red. If you want to actually lighten it to match the rest of your hair, you'd have to bleach your roots and then tone them to match everything else.
Hi! Great advice! I am at a 5 and want to get to a 7 to keep my grey hidden. I bleached twice with foils but missed a section as I have thick hair. My hair was yellow and orange!!!! I used a T27, Fanola Orange Shampoo, nothing worked!!! What toners would you recommend? Thank you!
Grey is at a level 8. If you google levels of lightness of hair and their underlying pigments. Level 7 is Orange. The toners depend on exactly what color you’re trying to achieve but you would definitely need something at a 7 with blue in it
