As someone who's worked airport security before, a lot of what he says is true. I always tried to empathize with passengers coming through. There were always the few and far in-between passengers that were absolute twats, but I always tried the nice approach first. I gave tips out to passengers who were willing to listen to make the process smoother. Like when we ask you to remove stuff from your pockets? Put it in your bag. No reason to put your cash in the bin for easy stealing. Patience, kindness, and being mindful.

As someone who just spent a month in Europe from Australia, flying multiple times, Brisbane to Rome, Milan to Naples, Rome to Iceland, Iceland to Norway, Bergen to Lofoten, Evenes to London and then London to Brisbane..i can tell you this. Out of all those flights, one fuck up occurred with SAS airlines and we were compensated with money. Now Australia and European airlines are not perfect but, the reason why the US domestic flights is such a shit show comparatively, is accountability. The US airlines have almost no accountability to anyone they fuck over unless theyre filmed bashing a passenger to an inch of their life.

4:04 so I actually have stand-by benefits with the airline I work for. The reason there are open seats and they tell you "only 2 left" or something like that can be two reasons. The number one reason is because they need seats for the flight crew during take-off, landing, and any turbulence along the way. The second reason is payload optimized where they are shipping stuff so the payload for shipment causes the plane to be too heavy. They counter act this by limiting the passengers so the plane doesnt go overweight.

This is happening globally. Too many airlines let go of many of their employees (during the first 2 years of COVID) despite governments warning them that this Summer was gonna be different for travel compared to the last couple of years, many of these airlines did not listen. And what's happened? Flights are delayed, baggage claim is slow and the quality of the overall experience of any flight, whether that's first class or economy, is fucking horrible at the moment.
@kenshin1368
@kenshin1368 2 года назад
This is not happening globally. It is drastically worse in the US. The US airlines took the government money to not fire people and fired people anyway. They then jacked up prices and refused to hire people back on. This is well documented. I took 10+ flights all across the EU and the UK in the last 6mo. I did not have a single issue with any of them. The one flight I took back to the US literally got 5+ delays, cancellations, and reroutes. A 12hr total travel time literally turned into a 36hr one. None of the delays were due to weather. They were all due to short staffing on pilots, attendants, and repair crew. Luckily, since I came from the EU, I was given 600 Euros in compensation. All of what Wubby is saying is correct. Attendants will straight up lie to you at the gate, tell you its full, and if you get through to customer service, they will likely find you a space on that flight. I have had United and other Airlines I have memberships with straight up change my boarding passes/flights mid trip with no warning. This is not the employees fault. This is 100% the fault of horrifically predatory management practices and lack of customer protection.

another reason you may see empty seats on the plane is that some ticket vendors sell flights that have connections, but without the intent of selling the connection flight to the customer. i.e. if someone wants to fly to Dallas, they can buy a ticket to New York with a layover in Dallas, and just not get on the second plane in Dallas. Wish I coulda made it to this stream cuz I’m a tsa person and everything you said was right. We are security officers not law enforcement and our job is literally to just make sure you’re safe and to help you and yea I hate the fact that every airport is different cuz it ends up with entitled passengers thinking they know what they are doing then getting mad when (I at aleast) offer advice to help. I also know it’s really fucking stupid with how it works everywhere. I would suggest getting tsa pre if you can since it’s $75 for 5 years and it saves you so much trouble since you don’t have to take anything out ever (unless the airport doesn’t have pre open usually cuz it’s small or some other problem) and you can keep shoes on and don’t usually have to get a body scan. I’m not really sure what else I can say other than yea there are officers that act like hoes to passengers and I usually just look at them like “ bruh this is why people hate us” and I can’t do anything about it or else they hate me for “being in the wrong” like the passenger.. most days though it’s just the electronics problem and drinks/ over sized liquids. Those I don’t mind unless the passenger tells me that the person telling them what to take out didn’t say shit then I’m kinda like “uh huh sure…” but other than that people say they forget and I’m like yea I have adhd so I forget everything and the day goes on but pro tip is don’t go to Vegas if you don’t have to (that’s my home airport) because we have a bag checking problem where it seems every other fucking bag gets pulled and it makes all the officers morales shit and is a reason people hate it there and it’s mainly caused by the new training center for new hires and them training them making us have more bag checks cause they can’t figure out the difference between a bomb and a Bluetooth shoe or something like a pen (which I have had at least 100 bags of) but don’t be scared if you bag gets pulled cause it’s usually food we are looking at or something like lighters (which can go unless it’s a bbq lighter or torch) and if you are wondering we do get at least one or two guns a week and at least 5-15 knives a day. Anyways imma leave it at that cuz I don’t want to go into more detail to stay out of trouble. And yes we are in the wrong for yelling at passengers but usually we are trying to get someone’s attention to help them not have more problems or sometimes the checkpoints are loud because of all the rollers and trays moving that we have to be louder than normal.

I'm just curious, if someone can pay to get TSA pre-check, doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose of security checkpoints? If someone can bypass those extra steps/scans through pre-check, I can imagine that makes it easier to smuggle stuff. I've only ever gotten TSA pre-check through random selection, but it's nice to know that you can save some hassle if you're able to pay extra ahead of time.

To be honest with you there are pilots and flight attendants that have to jump seat in order to make it to another airport. A lot of times they will make those seats space positive so they can make it to the airport in order for them to continue working on their scheduled flights. They also have jump seating available for employees within the company to fly either for free or at a discounted rate. They will always bump those employees that are not essential via "Pilot or Flight Attendant" in order for paid customers to make the flights / connecting flights. So as much as the front desk lady wanted to help you that's all she could do in order to get you in the right direction. It's completely up to the front desk person to take care of you of the flight she told you to go to and ask about. I have jump seated through airlines and it's like tossing a coin. You either make it or not. I always understand how the front desk people are busy and overwhelmed. I would never want their job. But if you give them time they will work with you. I guess being within the industry is a lot different then being out of it. A lot of people come to assumptions and want instant answers. That's not always possible. The guy you talked to isn't wrong by any means but there's more to it than just revenue. Pilots and flight attendants are always held over passengers at times when it comes to jump seating. I will always completely agree with TSA. They are all definitely over grown boy scouts. They are the lowest of lows. They all hate their jobs in my honest opinion. Flying is tough man. Being involved with the industry can be even more tough at times. Money talks and when you pay good money to fly and you have obligations to commit to it makes it that more frustrating. Trust me when I say, they care. They really do. They just get a lot of bad eggs. Much love.

I just got out of basic training for the army. the army booked the entire plane. only 10 of us on the plane going to our new duty station. we sat in our rows, and the flight attendents moved us all up to 1st class lol. it was jsut a bunch of us military folk flying high in an empty first class. was so sick.

BRO airport is autistic torture fr. A TSA agent called me an idiot for it being my first time on a commercial flight after they dumped my suitcase out on the ground. I didn’t think about it at the time because my ass was nervous and was talking while I was scooping my shit up off the floor and my labeled bags “ I actually had over 100 flight hours before I was 17 😅 so don’t worry sir I’m actually not nervous about the actual flight! It’s just this one’s a lot harder to get on than I’m used to.” Man they like we’re doing it like there was 100 people behind me at rush hour. It was 4 am in July. There was no one. I showed up 2 hours early to my flight with all my documentation, read the rules to the tsa gate and waited patiently to watch someone go in first to copy them and they still acted like buffoons. My goodness. No reason to do that. I am glad I took my dad’s warning and put my seizure medications in a heavy duty case. It was the first to go scattering across the floor. We only brought carry on.

Boy, I got a story to tell you that they don't allow people who function with benzos to join the TSA. I take one milligram of benzos in the morning and night, and that disqualifies me when I have anxiety. That benzo keeps it in check and helped me get to the dance. I told a TSO this on Reddit is that people are sick and tired of the TSA. The benzo is prescribed medication by the way.

3:57 there are seats on almost every flight that are literally never booked and the airlines use them for logistics to move pilots or crew around. Sometimes a crewmember or pilot will give up their normal seat and take the shitty jump seat (which is awesome) and sometimes they just don't need all the company seats. when that happens, thats when standby people all of a sudden all get on at the same time. So even if its 8 people ahead of you, there is still a chance to get on. also sometimes people just don't make it to the gate, or really do cancel. Some airlines will also just let you go on standby for earlier flights if you have a later ticket. or even different flights. it depends on the airline

The statement regarding 4x your ticket price isn't correct for all airlines (as someone who makes the agents kick people off without taking any of the responsibility). But yes, don't ever volunteer. And any "non-bag" or basic economy/cheap tickets, will be kicked off first, for obvious reasons, less money = poor guy = less value in the flight if they are on it. There is a cap at my airline, so even if your ticket is more than the cap, you won't get more than the cap and requires some big wigs to approve anything even at the cap.

13:16 isn't overbooking the reason United violently dragged that one guy off the flight a few years ago? There were no volunteers so they just randomly picked him to be kicked off the flight, and he didn't want to give up the seat he rightfully paid for, so they just dragged his ass down the aisle by force. The guy apparently got a $140 *million* payout too

I think most people that don't travel often have terrible travel hygiene and assume you only need to show up in time for the plane (and further they don't realise there's a good 20-30 minute discrepancy between the departure time and boarding time), minimum 1:15 before departure for domestic, 90 for international.
@lilliebobson3146
@lilliebobson3146 2 года назад
No. Domestic flights they say half hour to hour. International they say 2 hours. But most people dont live close to an airport. So that's where you may be late depends on traffic just getting to the airport. Even if you leave early.

You are the "cargo class" now on modern flights. The cargo that's in the belly pays more per pound to be on the flight than you do, especially if you're obese. So you're second-rate, literally. This is also why they overbook because any empty seat is a loss compared to a 100% full plane at all times.

Majority of passengers are lovely but some are rude to begin with. I try not to rise to it though it doesn’t solve anything. The rules are shit but I didn’t make them 🤷🏻‍♀️ Also UK rules are stricter than US I think and we don’t have tsa pre-check. That always causes issues with some US passengers.

Daaaaamn homie, I work for American Airlines and I am here to defend you. I've worked the ticket counter for American for a long time now, I completely understand the pain and suffering that everyone deals with when flying. Now I have had 6 people to this day try to round my counter trying to fight me for the dumbest of reasons, to this day I am convinced that 83% of passengers upon stepping into an airport forget how to be respectful and functional adults. Now from a passenger perspective of being told that your flight gets delayed or canceled brings the inner caveman out like "unga bunga where my airplane?" there are so many underlying details that have to all fall together in a timely manner to allow a single aircraft to lift off. Contrary to popular belief dearest Wubby we at American also want to get you out as painlessly as possible, I also work with some really disfunctional people that I wouldn't trust with a snow shovel but are somehow allowed to be near aircraft, so I'm not saying you should have attacked that American ticket counter rep but I 100% understand the feeling. I will always be as understanding with people as possbile, I've seen many of my fellow staff be rude for no reason. Dude on the note of Charlotte Douglas International: FUCK CLT, that airport and its staff are animals, I, a employee of the same company got called a bitch by my gate agent when I asked if standbys were allowed to check in, I avoid that hellhole anytime I fly, and you should to. On the note of overbooking it makes me angry to tears as a AA Employee, it murders any chance for us to fly out anywhere, so yes you are totally in your right to be angry. Sadly people miss there flights constantly. Also TSA is run by a bunch of flithly goddamned goblins, they make our airport a living hell, dearest people of the internet, never respect the TSA. My personal reccomendation to everyone here if you choose to fly goes as follows: Show up early, like two hours early even to a small airport, NEVER EVER pick tight connections, if something delays, your fucked and we want you to get going as fast as possible. Lastly and most importantly please try and be kind when talking to airport staff, I know its tough but it really makes my day better when someone is friendly in a poor situation, if you get delayed or stuck try and be an adult and not have a breakdown in the terminal, its gross to watch. I as a Ticket Counter Agent love my job, getting to interact with passengers is a highlight of my day, I am sorry you all had such a piss poor experience should you ever find yourself in Lexington Bluegrass I'll be certain to take care of you. Not all of us at American are monsters.... most of the time.

I was an operations coordinator for the biggest airport in my area, on any given day there is probably close to 50 different agencies working in and around the airport. The lady at the front desk, and the lady at the gate? Same company, completely different departments with completely different rules that can be switched around like hot cakes at any given moment. TSA literally has a book with SOP/SOGs( Standard Operating procedures/guidelines) that they regularly just ignore because they do what they want because they think its more efficient but have absolutely no idea because they don't actually do any research its more of a "we just do what works for us" That being said different airports actually qualify for different things, International Airports have different procedures than strictly domestic ones. It can vary by class of airport which at any time an airport can have its status taken away or reduced to a lower level if say a fire engine is out of service. My entire job was essentially making sure the airport maintained its class status within the best of my ability. I had absolutely no responsibilities to the customers of the airport and I FUCKING LOVED IT. Lines are long at TSA? Not my problem. Bathrooms out of service? Sucks to suck. I cared more about that lightbulb that was out at gate 4 than any of your issues with any of the carriers at the airport. Also best friends with the carriers, family is flying and I'm working? you're first one on the plane. I got to drive up and down runways looking for FOD at 130 mph. I've stood/sat in every single military aircraft thats ever landed at our airport. I got to shoot handguns that fire off little explosives to scare birds away from runways. Probably the only department with any semblance of happiness in any airport was my department, but they skipped over me for a promotion to full time employment so fuck 'em. TSA also gets tested regularly by sneaking shit into actors bags, to see if they can catch it, and my office was the ones the proctors would use to watch the security cams to see how they did. We saw some crazy weapons hidden or otherwise get caught, the only problem they had was with like chemicals and other shit, but those like "95% of shit gets through TSA tests" is pretty bullshit considering its the people who know the weaknesses of the TSA that make up the tests. You will see the absolute weirdest power trips in airports and NOTHING made me happier than crop dusting TSA checkpoints while being completely free of any rule or regulation the TSA thinks they have. Meanwhile all their supervisors think every single one of them is an idiot. Airports are something else lol.

The one stand out situation I had with airport staff was when I was moving back from university, I had 2 big suitcases, 2 duffelbags, and another smaller bag with me. I was struggling to carry all of it into the airport to the check-in area I needed. I walked up to an employee for an airline that was standing there doing nothing, asked if they could help me with my bags. He asked me, "are you travelling with Air Canada?" which is the airline he worked for. I said no, I was flying West Jet which was literally RIGHT next to the Air Canada check-in. Since I said I wasn't flying his employer's airline, he said "sorry, I can't help you." Like, seriously? Just because I'm not flying your airline you can't help me even though in the end, you work for the airport, and the place I'm going to is RIGHT next to the area you're standing around doing nothing? I still wonder how it would've went down if I just lied and said "yes" and then directed him to the actual place I needed to be.
@tsukitsuki7228
@tsukitsuki7228 2 года назад
I completely understand how that must have made you feel after he said he couldn’t help you and I’m so sorry you had to go through that. As someone who works in aviation as an above wing agent, I don’t agree at all with how he treated you. However, being employed under specific airline contracts can cause these inconveniences to happen pretty regularly. He does technically work at that specific airport you were at, or at least temp working there, but he doesn’t actually work for it. I know that sounds confusing but airports have airline workers and then the rest of the staff employed there. For airline workers specifically, our customer service can get a bit tricky. I, myself, work for Delta. If the head of staff at the airport I work at currently were to fire me, it wouldn’t be legitimate. Only Delta themselves can fire me and end my contract. Two different businesses with vastly different rules. Delta and pretty much every other airline company, including Canada air, will tell you the same thing. “Are you flying with Delta? No? I’m sorry I can’t help you with that, please ask someone at Canada Air, they will help you instead.” Regardless if what you’re asking of them may seem very basic as asking for help with your bags. Just last weekend an old lady flying with American Airlines missed her flight and was barely walking with her cane as she was rushing in to catch it. She hadn’t even parked her car or brought her bags in but she was desperate for help and the American staff wasn’t available at all, only us at Delta that morning. I felt bad and helped her find a parking spot and everything till she was back inside and seated and just as soon as I returned back to my post at the Delta kiosk I was reprimanded in the most condescending way for my completely innocent customer service JUST BECAUSE she was flying American. I haven’t helped anyone since if they state they aren’t flying with Delta. It’s a liability issue, if an American airline worker had seen me help the lady and that same lady went and told them that I hurt her or told her false things in any way and it got back to my supervisors right beside them at Delta, I could’ve been fired for my outstanding customer service just because she wasn’t flying with the company I’m contracted with. I know it sounds absolutely awful and I wish this wasn’t a thing because in the terms of customer service it shouldn’t matter who your money is going to, if a customer needs help then they need help, but they simply don’t care about customers needs at the end of the day if that cash isn’t going to them.

I've had similair issues when trying to check in for my flight with a service dog. I did all the paperwork before hand and submitted it and had it all pre-approved (you don't have to submit it before hand but it makes things easier). This lady near the self check in kiosks refused to let me use one saying I couldn't because of my service dog. I was done with her shit and the normal customer service line was too long and I would have missed my flight. So I just used the first class/ business class line instead. The employee said absolutely nothing about me not having a business class ticket and checked my luggage in without issue. On the flight back I used the $10 bag check in that was outside to make sure I didn't have to deal with a shitty employee again. I was also able to use the first class/business class TSA line on the first flight but I think that was because that airport didn't have a dedicated line for disabled people. The way back I had issues because I needed to use the disabled line (I can't use body scanners with a service dog because they're not programmed to allow for service dogs in them for some reason) but I didn't want an escort with me. I cannot stand up in line for long times safely, but so long as the line is short I DO NOT need a fucking airport nanny. I ended up just going in the line anyway and the security people had 0 issues that I was alone. Other employees were trying to say that I had to have an employee with me to use the accessible line which just ended up being false. On a lighter note, on the way back my checked luggage got searched because one of the dogs alerted to the dog treats and food in it lol. I know they didn't fully search it because the main section of the bag was untouched aside from them sliding the paper in about the search. The dog treats and food were in an outside pocket so my clothes wouldn't smell like it. I don't think they took any of the treats but if they did take one I wouldn't have cared
