Today we are showing you how we fixed the windshield wipers that were stuck in the up position on our 2007 Mazda 3.
This should fix 2004-2009 Mazda wipers. During the winter, our windshield wipers got stuck in the upright position. The wipers still worked fine but they were stuck upright which became a hazard since they were in our line of vision. We tried to hold the wipers down, hoping to fix the position of the blades and restart the cycle. When we got them in the correct position and turned them on they tried to go down into the hood instead of up on the windshield. We are going to show you how we fixed the problem by rotating the wiper linkage on the wiper transmission. We cannot be held responsible for any problems during your repairs and cannot guarantee that this fixes your problems. We hope it helps! If you have any questions, leave comments below and we would love to answer them. Thanks for your video, it was very informative. I did experience the same problem with the wipers on my 2009 Mazda 3. I did take everything apart following your instructions however; I did not find any alignment issues. I continued to look and found a broken ground wire which I fixed and replaced. The ground wire didn’t make sense to me because it was bolted from the car’s frame into the wiper’s motor FRAME (not into the motor itself). Luckily enough, my neighbor came over and pointed out that the reason for the ground wire being like that was because the motor was mounted on rubber bushings and mounts. To be sure, I did clean the windshield with a straight razor blade, vinegar solution and newspaper. Now, I am waiting for the next long rain storm to hit and see if the broken wire and/or a sticky windshield were the cause of the problem. I am also looking into the possibility of the accumulation of too much Rain X on a dirty windshield and/or wax (car wash wax) on the windshield which had made it sticky.

That is interesting about the wires. I hope it works now! Please let us know how it goes! I hope that your resolution worked. Thanks for the comment and for watching.

Big Al Repairs finally..the rain storm arrived and the wipers worked. Maybe it was the broken ground cable. Thanks for your video

Mine is stuck up and I think it from when It snowed. I have to manually push them down. I also hear a weird noise in the one arm when I push it down. This looks like a big job

For me I didn't have to do a complete 180. I just advanced it so the begins in the up stroke.

I've had this problem twice now. The 2006 Mazda 3 Hatchback I bought a few years ago came like this, with the wipers parking at the 2 o'clock position and the previous owner claiming it was due to turning them on with snow/ice on the windshield. I replaced the motor after not being able to find a solution and that fixed the issue. Just recently, not thinking, I turned them on by accident when there was some snow on the windshield and they got stuck in the same 2 o'clock position. I quickly turned them off but they continued to park in that spot. Now this is the weird part. I pushed them down back to their proper park position which never worked in the past. But for some reason they stayed there and parked correctly for a couple days. Then randomly while I was driving in the rain they began parking completely vertical (12 o'clock position) and I could not push them down for whatever reason. I ran them through their cycle multiple times and was eventually able to push them back to the park position. They stayed there until I used them again last night then they started parking at the 2 o'clock position again. I am totally confused by this and how the position could change randomly every few days, and how sometimes they'll park in the proper position but then begin parking in the 2 o'clock position again. I don't think the fix you described would work in this case. Thoughts?

We had this same problem happen multiple times. We tried almost everything we could, besides replacing the motor, and had no luck until we figured out this solution. Rotating the wiper linkage on the wiper transmission has been the only long term solution we have found. Unfortunately ours were not randomly changing every few days like you explained your wipers were doing. We could force them into other positions but once the wiper cycle ended they always reverted back into the up position. One time we tried to hold the wipers down, hoping to fix the position of the blades and restart the cycle but when we got them in the position we wanted and turned them on inside the car, they tried to move downward into the hood instead of up on the windshield. Rotating the linkage under the hood was the only way we found to properly adjust the blade position and refresh the cycle for the long term.

Big Al Repairs thank you for the response and great video. I can't imagine how or why mine stopped in the random 12 o'clock position but that only happened once so far. The last time I turned the wipers on it parked in the 2 o'clock position again (where the snow originally forced it to a halt). I will try adjusting the linkage since that seems to be the only possible fix besides buying another new motor (which involved adjusting the linkage anyways and I am now wondering if the old motor was fine and the linkage is really the sole culprit). I’ll comment back once I attempt it

It is honestly the craziest thing how they get stuck up like that. The first time ours were stuck up we forced them back down and they stayed that way until the next day they went and parked right back up in the same position. It is even crazier that yours keep changing. Let us know if that works for you or if you figure out anything else along the way. We would love to get an update or if you figure out any other tricks along the way. We are sorry this happened to you! It is snowing in Utah again today so we are glad our wipers are still parking in the correct spot! We hope you get it fixed! Thanks for commenting to us.

Hey! Also another thing you might want to check. Have you checked the nut, spacer or base where you attach the wiper blade arm to the motor? Sometimes the little rivets on the base can become stripped and will not allow the wiper to park and rotate correctly. Just another thing you might want to check into.

It can be done! Let us know how much they want to charge to fix something like this. The shop we went to wanted to replace the motor and the blades. They basically wanted to just replace everything.

This seems to compensate well enough for the problem but doesn't fix the actual root cause. (?) What is the actual root problem that causes the wipers to get stuck up in the first place?
@BigAl-1
@BigAl-1 Год назад
Giles, my guess is that the wipers were stuck due to them being frozen to the windshield and the mechanism moved but the wipers did not which caused the wipers to be out of sync. Thanks again for your comment.

I don't have that thing you flipped up and rotated. Since replacing my linkage, my arms remain in the upright position. I've removed my motor and arm to see whats going on. I have no idea what has happened. 6 months now like this Nissan quaschai

I've changed the linkage on my car and I couldn't understand why the wipers wouldn't stop all the way down, they always stop half way to the windshield Lol so i have to set up the linkage properly ? I only bolt it in there I didn't think there's a specific way it should of gone...thanks
