How to fix your BMW E46 E90 E91 E92 Trunk wiring harness

#E46, #E90, #E91, and #E92 3-Series #BMW s have a serious issue with their trunk wiring harness. It can result in malfunctions of the electrical components such as the lights or the trunk latch not opening, but it can even be a fire risk.
The issue is caused by by the opening of the trunk. Over time the flexing of wires causes them to break. Often it is the brown wires which are ground wires.
This video will show how anyone with some basic tools can help to remediate the issue on their car saving them possibly hundreds of dollars.

I just bought a 06 330i with this issue. the only lights that work on the trunk are the license plate lights. This is my 1st ever BMW I read that after the issue pops up on the dash and you start the car so many times it sends a signal to the FRM and the reverse lights won't work and the FRM module will need to be reset. I also noticed a red and blue wire with a small plug on the end in the battery compartment that I can't figure were it goes or if it may be something extra that my car doesn't have? Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to make these videos or I would have already junked this car and cut my losses! LOL

You bought an awesome car, I have the 330xi. The wiring harness is a common issue in the E90.

@@Navisworker Now that I have repaired all the electrical issues and maint neglect I'm in love with the car as my new daily driver. For having 221k miles it rides like a dream. Makes a few funny noises and she leaks a little but I'm enjoying it! My Cadillac CTS-V just sits in the garage for when I get the urge to scare the shit out of someone! LOL

@@Joeshomegaragehow did you fix the reverse lights not working? I just did this repair to the 2 ground wires on my 06 330i and the reverse lights are still not working. All the other trunk lights work now. Thanks

@@brianlobo1512 It was the Footwell module causing the reverse lights, daytime running lights and airbag fault. I can't remember how I figured out that the frm module had issues maybe because I couldn't reset it. I sent it out and had it repaired and no issues after that.
