I love that hit the back of your knee/leg idea since I have trouble getting the ball under my head at the bottom of the swing. But I think body tilt makes a big difference. And I see Brad's body tilt when looking at his shoulders and hips. His right side dips downward. That would be a good thing to cover following this video.

I use to spin to win. Chicken winged so much. It was me forcing the ball onto the lane rather than relying on the arm swing. Easier said than done.

Omg guys, thank you. This is exactly what I do. Chicken wing. Being older, sometimes my wrist hurts me when I’m staying inside the ball and I will subconsciously let my elbow stay outside. Daniel showed me this on video also. Well, I’m still working at it. It’s a process of course. Thanks guys

Look into your grip. If you're an older bowler and haven't updated it, you might have too long of a span and incorrect finger/thumb pitches. That grip worked in the 80s and 90s, but it's not going to work today, especially trying to stay inside the ball.

I’ve watched a lot of videos of the release and different types and all that and finally have figured it out some, but that forearm splitting the ball tip was one I’d never heard before and wow is it a game changer! Also I’d like to add from a physical standpoint it’s not healthy on your elbow joint putting that type of twisting force on it away from the body while it’s being weighed down!
@clowny2396

I've been paying attention to my ring finger at the release point and directing it at my target which is usually between the dots and the arrows. I also pay attention to my index finger particularly at the start and all the way to the top of the swing. These two things have helped me to stay behind the ball throughout the swing. One other key thing is I use white bowling tape to make each ball feel good and placed in such a way to keep me from grabbing at the ball during the swing. It seems that the tip of my thumb pad wants to feel something during the entire swing. As long as I can keep my thumb straight the release is easy and fast for a clean roll. Thanks for all your tips guys...

I've been repeating "ELBOW IN" like a mantra for the past several weeks, and it's working. It's been one of the more frustrating pieces of my game. I've always had a tendency to let my elbow flare outward on my downswing. Last week in league, I focused very hard on that and keeping my hand to the inside of the ball. Shot a 257 scratch in game 3 of my series with a nice 7-bagger to start. Great advice!

Had a great session practicing today-- and it's thanks to this video! I always had issues with the ball getting away from my body even though I felt like I tried everything to keep my elbow inside. I didn't know it was as simple as keeping my armpit closed. I focused on splitting the ball and keeping that imaginary towel crimped and I instantly felt more power behind the ball while exerting less effort to do so. Once I got used to the motion, I was able to more consistently hit my target on the lane. Even in practice, on one lane, I average around 160. I bowled about 6 games today and averaged 210. I can't thank you guys enough for this one. Keep up the great work!

Great tip! I have been working on this aspect of my bowling for a while. I'm a wheelchair right-handed bowler and find that as soon as I feel my elbow pointing toward the right wall, I miss my mark left and my ball always misses to the left of the head pin on the first ball. I do this even more on my spare ball shots! I feel like I'm blocking the ball from going in the gutter on the 10 pin shot . Or I feel like I need to help the ball get to the 7 pin even though I know that I have a better chance when I keep my elbow in on both shots. Also, being in a wheelchair my body is already 3 or 4 inches away from the outside of the wheel. This makes it even harder to keep my elbow in the proper position.

2:20 Brad perfectly describes my natural release that I had to get coached out of. Nothing was working until I was told to change where I was holding the ball to start, which got rid of my behind the back motion, and then also focusing on not allowing my elbow to rotate around whatsoever. My roll immediately improved.

Very timely! I think this is the primary problem I have with my game. I think it also limits your ability to throw higher speeds comfortably. I have been trying to get more ball speed this year and I think focusing on this aspect will likely help me more than anything else. To keep the elbow close you probably need a decent crossover step (1st step on 4 step, 2nd on 5).
@flippperboy
@flippperboy Год назад
To have natural speed it is syncing the footwork and swing. Hopefully these guys with cover it one day. I go to Brad’s coach Mike Jasnau and it took me 3 lessons from him to finally have it click of where the ball is suppose to be at certain parts of my steps. If you have a chance to see Mike Jasnau it is highly recommend.

I was born in 84 so I very much modeled my game after Pete Weber a lot I admired the high back swing and I have a big tendency to get more around the ball like he did as well. I have been successful with it but you are probably right on it limiting what I can and can't do so I've been really working on hand and wrist positions to practice on rolling up the back of the ball more on harder conditions when I need more control. So to speak I Channel my inner Chris Barnes LOL
@SirJoelsuf1
@SirJoelsuf1 Год назад
Yeah Weber was a spin biscuit. But Barnes has way too much forward roll. Think Weber has his hand position at 80 some degrees while Barnes has his maybe at 5 degrees. The sweet spot is about 15-20, like what Brad has in this. I'm currently rolling it with my hand position at about 60-70 degrees.

i bowled my whole life not having any idea i had a chicken wing in my swing.. had plenty of success bowling that way but i wanted to get rid of the chicken wing and i spent half of the summer working on fixing my chicken wing swing and it was the hardest weirdest most frustrating thing to overcome but i stayed committed to it and finally half way threw this current season its really starting to feel natural im more accurate im staying up the back of the ball so i can control all my equipment now i use to have issues with hockey stick ball reaction im not having that at all anymore unless the ball just doesn’t match the pattern my scores werent what inwanted at the start of the season but since thanksgiving ive thrown really well my average is climbing and im getting the comsiatency down. but after bowling 20 years with a chicken wing that was a battle to get my body and mind use to keeping that elbow in and half more towards the inside of the ball. my biggest issue now is that i struggle to get around the ball now when i want to create more axis rotation

I never thought I was a high Rev player but growing up my dad was a straight player so he didn't have very aggressive balls because he did need them . When out on my own and the balls with not much hook I went a got professional lessons and the guy told me after the first game that I had the wrong ball for me and he gave me one of his balls to try and it was incredible. And found out I naturally get around the ball and have high Rev naturally. Since then I've upgraded all my balls and now I went from like a 185 avg to 2 leagues in a row having a 230 average
@Toyotacall
@Toyotacall Год назад
Dear Brad/Kyle. i am from South Africa and a great enthusiast of Tenpin Bowling. I am our League President. If it wasn't for your videos , I would have still struggling to get to a 200 average. My stupid question is "If you would just release the ball, the ball will roll over the thumb. What do you do at the last moment before release, TO LET THE BALL NOT ROLL OVER THE THUMB?"
@TheGeniusHaileyPerlstein
@TheGeniusHaileyPerlstein Год назад
The ball doesn’t really roll on the thumb, when your ball flares and oil gets on the lane, you will see an oil track. That is your track. There high roller full roller, Extera. When you get a new bowling ball, if your serious about bowling, you NEED to get your PAP measured. You have to ask the ball driller to measure it. What it is is the way your ball rolls off your hand. Everyone throws it differently and when they measure your PAP, they can choose the right layout for you. What you asked about what you do right before you release the ball, what the pros do, is they go inside like Kyle said, the bend the elbow, then you you move you make this flicking motion with your wrist. But just know something. I know a lot about bowling, I work in a pro shop, you don’t need to do what the pros do. The more you obsess over it, the worst it is. That is what many pro bowlers know, and if they don’t, then they just don’t know the truth. When I first started bowling, I loved watching the pros have a high backswing. But my coach explained to me, you can’t force it, you have to let it happen. You DO NOT want to force the ball up. It causes problems. So I used to have a low backswing. Over the years, I just let it happen and it got way above my head. Now, you don’t have to have good form to get 300s. You are working towards it, but i see it all the time, I’m on instagram when Storm and roto grip, post the last shot of someone’s 300, they look like a beginner bowler. To get 300s , or even a high score, you need to think of absolutely NOTHING when you are bowling serious. In practice, you can think ok, keep elbow in, things like that. If you can focus and literally think of nothing when you are bowling, you will get higher scores. When you keep looking at your score, you will get lower scores. Scores to not matter at all to me, when i am practicing. Practice is so you can focus on your form so you can get higher score in tournaments. I don’t care if you get a 90 when you are bowling, you need to NOT CARE, once you do that, you will be a better bowler. You need to be careful watching certain people on RU-vid or listening to people who don’t know anything, brad and Kyle is good, Darren tang, Daria pajak, packy hanrahan., people you should not watch even though they may be entertaining, is- 220 average bowler, he is not good, trust me, just because he averages 220 doesn’t mean he know anything about bowling. Also Luis napoles, he is not good, he hasn’t even won a title. Now it doesn’t matter how many 300s you’ve gotten , what matters is you know how to bowl and know how to have a good mindset and mental game. Thank you, hope this helps, good luck! Ps: if you want to get better, don’t try yourself, you will just get bad habits. You need to find a coach. Now the coach has to be a pro bowler, and they cannot be on old person. Old people are stuck in the past when everything was different. Simply, if you ask the pro shop manager if they do lessons, they have to be young, and they have to actually be a pro, or you are not going to ever be a serious bowler.
@wexerst9233
@wexerst9233 Год назад
True, bowling has to happen naturally. Don’t obsess over someone else’s game, but obviously can give it a try. I, myself find me stuck with a coach that’s old bowling wise. Doesn’t really have a perspective and/or new ideas on modern bowling release wise, form wise, etc. It’s really frustating, but sometimes you just gotta watch these helpful videos to see what you can get and do. I’m from the Dominican Republic which is a small island relatively and we only have 1 main bowling alley and there’s a team but realistically no local coaches, just coaches who come from other countries.

First of, Thank you for hours of good content. And to the point, i might be a lost case or something. I keep trying to get a hook/curve going when bowling. But it feels like no matter what im doing im ending up bowling super straight with a hint of turn just before the pins. Im a REALLY new player, with no one but YT to teach me. Im bowling with a Jackal legacy so theres nothing hindering the ball from curving exept me :P Any video you have out or any comment? Ive slowed down my approach, im keeping under the equator of the ball, but something just dosnt click to get the ball rolling of my hand and latch to the fingertips :/ (i know its not an easy task to say something when you cant se me play). And again, thank you for good content, keep up the good work!

I have a problem with opening up my angle left to right and will sometimes throwing it in the gutter, no sure if it because of the elbow not being tucked in would love to see a video of some causes of this or to prevent this from happening

I noticed the colored inserts, is it a thing you do to easily detect the hook phase and roll direction easily?

Mines swing is between the end and cut of the ball but as I release I’m just way inside and I just come all around the ball

I’ve been struggling with bending my elbow on the down swing I guess mentally trying to stay under the ball and try and make the ball hook and it’s a pain in my ass 😂😂
