Brilliant! My daughter's 2012 Corolla is all beat up and we certainly didn't want to pay to have all the clips and fittings replaced. Both sides were hanging off between the headlight and wheel well. I used Permatex Black Plastic Welder. 5min set, 10min cured. The black line between the two panels looks great and intensive wiggling shows everything to be stuck up in there really well! Thanks!

@@southernberean8166 I don't see where I mentioned anything about a "few more years". As far as I'm concerned, my daughter can drive it until she's a grandma. It's just so beat up cosmetically this solution was a much better option than spending a bunch of money on a proper repair. Peace.

This is caused by bumper scrapping and catching on those parking spot curbs. The curbs are too high for today’s cars. I always park a foot short of them now.

Idiots think they need to put their tires up to the curb or sidewalk instead of realizing their cars are about two and half feet in front of the tires. Figure out where the front of your car is, park there. Or, pull up until your tires run into something and tell you to stop, it's just plastic.

I found an easier way! If you remove some of the clips holding the plastic liner of the wheel well, so you can get access to the 'inside' of the quarter panel, you can reach in, pull off what's left of the old broken bumper clips, and insert a ZIP TIE there instead. You then thread the length of zip tie to the hole on the bumper and bring it around to the other part of the zip tie where the hole is. You then pull up the excess length of the zip tie, pulling up the bumper, and that's it, fixed.

I followed your instructions and both sides of the bumper came out beautiful. I was able to find a clear self mixing epoxy with a detachable long nozzle. It was basically injecting the epoxy. The paint tape and duct tape worked great. I used alcohol on a cotton ball to remove the small amount of duct tape residue. It’s been bugging me all this time. Don’t know why I waited so long. Probably 20 minutes total to fix both sides. Good as new.

The Switz, I own and drive a 2002 Jeep Wrangler, 1995 Ford F-150 and 1992 Mazda Miata. They each have 165-185k miles and still run strong! There is the trade off of more maintenance and repairs, but it’s still cheaper than buying one 50-$60,000 New truck.

@TheSwitzAutomotive 2 года назад
@@billytrevathan6405 You got that right! And if you do your own maintenance with cheap parts it won't cost you that much. And the great thing about a 20 year old car with 200,000 miles on it is that you are not likely to "ruin" it if you make a mistake.

The Switz I just had a clutch put in the Miata for $500 total, parts and labor. Well, I know a good mechanic that is semi-retired and is great for jobs I don’t want to do myself. My wife was telling me about a friend that had to pay just to get on a waiting list for the new vehicle of their choice, then pay more than msrp when it came in! It’s crazy what people are paying for new vehicles. Most modern vehicles are just getting started at 100,000 miles, as long as they are maintained properly and have not been driven in the city on short commutes for many years.

I did this on the second side and had perfect results. First side i has the same tearing as in the video and has to use a razor blade to finish the tape removal. Rather than duct tape, i just help the bumper in place with my hands (actually a leaned my whole body into it and used my hands). The bumper was not a nicely refitted as in the video so duct tape would never have worked.

@@rcharding Not true. You can: Drill two holes in hidden places and zip tie it, and then just cut and reziptie for use. Get bumper quick release (Can be hidden, too) If there's too much material lacking you can "weld" plastic on plastic by melting it together. Then use any method you prefer, including the original one. Chances are you can't clip it back on because somewhere the plastic has broken off. My bumper got caught on my dad’s trailer hitch. Probably a curb or two since I lived in the city a few years ago. The auto body places will only replace the entire bumper, which would be crazy expensive and probably not be the same color as my car. Just for the clips! Thanks for the adhesive recommendation, the other one I tried cracked off already. Not too concerned about it looking perfect but the painters tape trick is a great idea as well.

my understanding is that bumpers/component parts of the car are able to come apart in the event of a crash to redirect impact away from those inside the vehicle. Would this potentially reduce this effect, or is it roughly a similar level of hold?

I've got to fix a similar problem with my Corolla 2014. The whole back bumper flew off a few years ago while driving on a highway, and it got air born high above the road. That was very scary but luckily it didn't cause an accident. I had to replace it, and perhaps used a too cheap replacement, after I found that it would have cost me a fortune at a body shop, and even the parts are way too expensive. However, it already begins to get loose again, and so I keep using duct tape to hold it in place. This whole contraption is really a sloppy design. The attachments are simply way too flimsy to hold up through several winters, when the underside near the wheels gets often packed with ice and frozen slush, which have enough weight to tear the bumper down and erode the attachments. When people say that Toyota's cars last for ever, they certainly don't mean most of the, lets say, non-essential attachments.

Tape up seem with painters tape. Then go underneath and use spray foam. It adheres the plastic to the actual bumper (frame). Do it front and back and now you have a tank.

My 1999 323i BMW was rear ended. The right side of bumper is hanging. Can I use the xip tab or bonding glue for this issue? The other person's insurance company only paid $1200. It actually cost $1600+ which doesn't include painting. I'm suing them anyway for bodily harm, pain. But need to try this before spending more than the car is worth. I wish I could send a photo so that someone will say yeah or nay me trying myself. The auto body shops are overly expensive. The clamps are broken and was told they were $200 each for 2.
