Just saying "Thank You!" seems so inadequate. This morning my EGO String Trimmer would not spool the line. I was puzzled. First I checked the 5-year warranty and found it would expire the end of this October 2023. Next I called EGO to learn where I could get it repaired. They said the trimmer head warranty was for ONLY 90 days and I would have to purchase a new head, part #AH1520 for $50 or so. I went to RU-vid in search of how difficult it would be to replace the head. During my search I found your RU-vid on how to clean the head. I went to my garage, followed your instructions, and found it WAS dirty. I cleaned it out, put it back together, and Voila! Now it works beautifully. You have a new fan. Well done, and bless you.
Works. I had a very small amount of tarp threads that had gotten up into the head. It doesn't take much to cause the power-load not to work. Taking it apart helped me see the problem immediately.
Thank you for such a simple fix! EGO was unhelpful and could have easily told me how to troubleshoot the tool, but left it for you to do! Thank you thank you.
Perfect instructions on how to fix our problem (the inner area was wrapped with some sort of fine string/twine that had become drawn into it, preventing the automatic function from working). It was rather stressful at first but when we found your video and followed your instructions, it easliy solved our problem! By the way, the nut on our weedeater was on very tight and it was hard to hold the spool area secure enough to effectively turn the nut with the wrench. I finally figured out how to move the part of the spool up (outwards) which locked the inner part from turning so that I could more easily hold onto the outer part securely enough to give enough torque to loosen the nut (I hope that made sense?!). Anyway, thank you! God bless you.
Thank you for this video. I could not figure out why the auto line feeder was not working. I was ready to buy what ever I needed to fix my trimmer. I had a fine wire wrapped around the spool and would never have thought to take it apart. Thanks again.
In my case I found a bunch of grass wrapped around the plastic gearing and sure enough after cleaning that out it loads again. Thank you so much for sharing this info! Saved me from having to buy a new string trimmer 😁
Thanks for the video !!! I was cutting my grass and you save my life showing me how to fix it !!! Thanks again!!! I was trying to fix it for an hour and after watching your video took me 3 minutes
Was getting ready to go to hunting camp went to load my ego and it would not work. Did a quick search. Found your video and worked like a charm. Thanks.
Thank You I have straw blankets on my yard because of new construction and the string got tangled up in my EGO weed eater and your video explains exactly what to do to fix the problem with it not winding. Again thank you!!!
Thank you for this video. Live on a homestead and love this EGO string trimmer. This fixed my problem… under the spool head it has sucked up about 8” of plastic deer fencing which I was able to remove. Cheers!
Something that worked for me is before you remove the nut take the cap off, then press the Power feed button to see if the spool turns. If it does, pop the cap back on, feed the string through and press the Power feed button to see if it works. It did for me.
thank you so much friend. I'm not the most hands on & you finally got me to fix mine that had been not retracting the string for probably 6 months 🙂. For my issue, my lock nut was too tight, you're awesome thank you so much for posting, cheers!
When I saw that your string trimmer didn't have any debris, I was skeptical why taking it apart and putting it back together again would help (but then again, doesn't it always?). Took mine apart as per your video, lots of debris stuck in there. Cleaned it out - auto-feed works great. Appreciate the video.
Thank you so much for sharing how to get the string to wind. Very well explained and easy to follow along with the demonstration. I also love your dog (scene stealer! LOL). I was able to get my weed eater working in just a few minutes.
Thank you so much i was sitting there stressing out about it and the whole time it was just a piece of string that kept it from turning and feeding the line. Life saver!
THANK YOU so much for your video! I was pessimistic about this EGO trimmer purchase in March, but really had doubts when the powerload line feed stopped working a few days ago when volunteering to help an old man on his property of overgrown weeds. Your video was WAY more conducive than the toubleshooting guide in the manual. STEP-BY-STEP! Up and running! Thank you again!
Thanks you saved me a lot of time - mine was having a different issue. the loading feature was working, but when I went to use the weed eater, all the string just kept coming out as the head turned. Turns out I missing the Spring. Thanks!
@@danieldoherty5034thanks for your reply. I checked a new 1620t it had no spring, unless someone removed it already. I took it all apart cleaned & back together & nothing. Really don’t want spend $50 on a year old t $300 trimmer. I tried a spring for the 15” trimmer doesn’t help the 16”
Thanks I appreciate 🙏 the video I did mine and it Worked 💪 but be sure to hold pull the green part up and hold it so you can get the bolt off without it turning on you while your trying to get it off.
When I have had that problem, while pressing the green button, I take my other hand and hold and slightly push in the green disk on the bottom. No need to take it apart.
I'll try this out... mine started acting funny this evening and I use string that looks just like yours from a large spool. Kept trying to load it and the motor started getting hot. I just so happened to have a factory pre-cut string so I pulled out the clear string and loaded the Ego string and it loaded that with no problem...
My problem is it feeds a bunch of line out at a time…multiple times when in use. My grandson said that happened 10 times or more when he was using it. That happened to me the last time I used it. How do you fix that?
I don't really understand anything about tools and need to purchase the socket wrench and socket but 1/2 socket sets all look like different sizes in the set. Can you be more specific about the exact socket I need so I don't buy more than I need. Thank you so much for this fantastic video!
For the last 18 months I've not let the lawn crew edge or use a weed eater in my back yard. ru-vid.comUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG I didn't like the fact that they just kept cutting the edge of the lawn further and further from the rock lining the flower beds and leaving bare ground. And the grass was trimmed or scalped several feet around trees, etc. It was a constant battle with them so I told them to just mow and no trimming. I have Zoysia grass so it grows pretty slow. Obviously after a while it could use some trimming. I'm in my 80's so I can't do much of it myself. Finally I decided that if I could find a lightweight battery powered trimmer I might be able to do some light trimming. I decided to buy the LST201 20V trimmer. And it works great for my needs. I have back yard with about 150' of flower beds and several trees to be trimmed. I can lightly trim the whole yard with a single charge! The grass I trimmed was only a few inches high but the trimmer was more powerful than I expected.
I had the same problem with trimmer but I notice the spring not attached to lid instead of you putting it over the shaft. I attached it to the lid without removing the bolt and it worked again. Maybe others can try that first
The Echo string trimmer is the only Echo product I like. After watching you clean your Echo string trimmer, I think anyone can do this simple minor service.
Mine wouldn't load due to using too large of a string. Went back to the smaller size and worked great. This was after taking it all apart and finding it pretty clean.
My problem is the line will not feed out while using the trimmer! When the line runs short I have to manually remove the trimmer head and pull out more line then rewind the string by hand! This has been happening since I took it out of the box. I thought I was doing something wrong but now I see that there is probably an issue. Been reading for a response to this issue also?
I’ve cleaned mine 4 times. It will still not wind the string. Is there a way to wind string manually? So very frustrating. I love this trimmer-when it works.
Manual is out. After cleaning as video shows, mine wouldn't rewind either. I took the advice of a viewer. I took the lock nut and installed tight but barely and took the spring and stretched it approximately 1/4". My ego reminds like a charm. Good luck
Love the Ego Trimmer. however I am having difficultly with putting the line through the hole to come out the other side.....I have watched different video's however certain lines work better than some others....Please share anyone that can help with with this Meticulous issue please. Thank you in advance.
Took mine apart. Head was pretty clean, no debris, but I cleaned it anyway. Still did not work when I put it together. It is hard to believe the trimmer head is so sensitive to debris and no debris. It should be redesigned to be more robust. I ordered a new head.
Anyone have problems where the line won’t feed through the feeder to get to the auto load feature had my trimmer 5 years worked great till about 2 weeks ago. Probably put about 5-6 thousand hours on this trimmer best trimmer I have ever had however won’t feet through now and if I remove the cap fees it and run it through the cap it catches the bump mechanism into full bump mode
If it's not clogged and only spins when trying to load check this: Mine was spinning and not taking up line and not clogged. Take the spool off completely. Attached to the motor, over the motor shaft, is a plastic cone like piece held to the motor with three phillips head screws. The issue is on that piece. There is supposed to be an extrusion on that part that engages with a slot on the spool. Mine was melted and worn over so it would not hold the spool from spinning Unable to find a replacement part without purchasing a new motor I was able to fix: sand down the left over extrusion on the plastic piece so it is flush with the rest of the cone. Using a screwdriver push up from the inside of the cone in the location of the extrusion (there is a slot inside there) to make a small slit in the cone where the old extrusion was. I used a plastic welding wand from Harbor Freight to build back an extrusion to engage with the spool as it should. I took a piece of plastic material in the welding kit and trimmed it to fit into the slot I made in the cone with the screwdriver. Then used the heating iron in the kit to shape the plastic to snugly fit the slot on the spool. Trimmer loads as it should now!
These weed eater are honestly nothing but trouble. They are nice when they work but sucks when they don’t. I have the model with the bump head “thank you lord🙌🏽” but still the head will get stuck when you bump it and to make it work best I have to softly bump it.
This didn’t work for me, just cleaning it. After time you will have to stretch the spring out say an eighth of an inch to a quarter of an inch. Think about it, a compressed spring will loose its memory to spring so the fix is to stretch the spring back out a little! If you’re not strong enough to stretch it out with your hands, try prying it at the ends with a screwdriver to get it to stretch. You are welcome guys, happy weed eating 😁
My EGO ST1200 does not work. Not even with a freshly charged battery. And yes, I've cleaned all the debris from the drive shaft beneath the cutting head.
Problem solved, y’all. Dirtiness can certainly be an issue but if it’s clean I’ll bet you anything you were trying to load 0.095. It simply doesn’t have the torque to wind such thick string. Don’t go thicker than 0.080 and I bet it will load just fine.
So you didn't actually 'fix' anything. you took it apart, put it back together, and by chance it worked. Doesn't mean that the initial problem is gone by a longshot...
