In the present day steelhead fishing, it's not just the pink worm anymore. Anglers have the choice of choosing a ton of different steelhead worms. In this video Marlin from Addicted Fishing talks about all the different colors he likes and how to setup a fixed float setup when fishing steelhead worms. Fixed float steelhead fishing is a deadly method that once learned, can make you an insanely good steelhead fisherman. Thanks for watch and please tap that subscribe button!

I am new to this and not sure why using fixed float as opposed to using a slip float with stops. Seems like the later is going to be easier to cast as distance between float and worm increases and just as easy to adjust for water depth.

I actually like this setup if im not fly fishing for steelies. Im going tomorrow up in pulaski ny tomorrow and I'm gonna use this set up tomorrow. Your video just reminded me to switch rods and just do some float fishin. But I've never used the worms with colored ends so I'm actually wondering do you fish all 1 color sometimes then switch to another or just use straight pink and do you have better luck with color?? Ive only used pink worms other then flies or eggs ect.

Greg Goostree The taper of the 6 inch worm gives it better action when cut to 4” than the actual 4” worm. It’s all personal preference. Personally I do the exact same thing as Marlin with addicted worms and mad river.

What pound test of leader? I usually use 10 lb but would 15 or 17 be to heavy for clear water?
@AddictedFishing

I like fluorocarbon because its virtually invisible to the fish and it allows you to use 12,15,17,20 lb without spooking the fish. I typically use 20 lb always but try what your comfortable with and successful with and stick to it!
@jeffh699

Addicted Fishing do u use 20 lb fishin a single bead? I had a fish break me off today with 10 lb. I know fluorocarbon is stiff when get in the heavier tests and takes longer to sink do u think 15 lb would be ok? What’s the benefit of running a fixed float rather then a sliding float. Also why not just put the bobber on your braid with a in-line weight in between and a leader from the weight the a worm?
@AddictedFishing
@AddictedFishing 5 лет назад
Fixed floats are used on smaller creeks or rivers or when the water is low and clear. By eliminating all the extra things like bobber stops, inline weights, etc. It allows you to look more natural to the fish, keep the presentation basic and natural to the fish, with no extra distractions getting in the way. Float and Lure that's it! Also with a fixed float, you can see much better what your presentation is doing, whether its ticking bottom, dragging, not deep enough, etc. Its harder to detect these things when the inline weight absorbs some of those movements and indications. A third advantage to the fixed float setup is being able to adjust your depth, quickly on the fly and fish water as shallow as you want. You can take that float down to 4-6" and fish shallow riffles the fish might be hiding in. After all, steelhead aren't very tall. 😜 Thanks so much for tuning in and contributing with your comment. See you on the river! - Marlin

@ryanenns
@ryanenns 5 лет назад
I like to use a non-slip loop knot on jigs, let's them float horizontal every time and also provides some pivot action to the jig in the current. A clinch knot can inhibit the action and if it's cranked tight on the eye of the hook, it can also make the jig swim funky if position isn't right. Great job Marlin!!
