I got the mini-torch for making homemade Crem Brûlée (to harden the sugar topping for crystallization) about 19 years ago as a wedding gift. It’s still new in box. Thanks to you Cary, I now have a use for the pointless wedding gift. Can you do a video on how to use a fondue set in pinball? I’d appreciate it. 😝

I've used this with my Johnny Mneumonic plastics and it works great. Just practice on a junk piece first.

That was impressive! When I read the title of the video I thought “man is he crazy?” 😂 But you made me a believer. Especially near the end when you did the bottom it was like magic

Nice job. I've done it on Whitewater ramps, it's quite shocking how well it works.

Excellent polishing and another useful video 👍 My first time I created bobbles and bent the plastic (slingshot plastic). The thickness counts a lot.

Nice, Perfect timing I just got a new Micro For my CFTBL. My first swap & been debating new ramps. They’re not cracked but their not clear anymore either. Going to give this a go. Thanks!

Old video but often referenced in more recent RU-vid content so looked it up. Doing my first FULL playfield strip down and deep clean. Looking for any methods to reduce look of wear on ramps. My trip found hot iron with paper or hair dryer to help straighten playfield plastics good.

Can you do this with a Heat Gun? Or does it need to be a Torch/flame?
@CaryHardy
@CaryHardy Год назад
I don't know if a heat gun would work as well. I have never tried it. I would assume it wouldn't.

Thanks very much. My Fish Tales boat ramp has seen better days so I'm ready to try this out to improve the appearance. My ramp also has some yellowing/discoloration. Does this clean that up too or do I need to do some additional prep work to address the yellowing?
@CaryHardy
@CaryHardy 2 года назад
Yellowing is a tough one. There is a peroxide with UV light setup to lessen the yellowing, but it will never be 'clear' again due to the materials it was made with from the factory.

Anyway to repair cracks from ball strikes on plastic ramps.
@CaryHardy
@CaryHardy 2 года назад
Not a "pretty" resolution. People tend to craft support systems using a variety of other materials. Glue, other plastics, metal sheets, etc. The torch with enough heat could possibly give the cracks a little more tooth to stay intact, but wouldn't hold up against the abuse of the ball in the long run.

Sounds like $200 new ramp is the best solution.

Great video (as always) I was wondering if this works for colored plastic ramps as well?
@CaryHardy
@CaryHardy 2 года назад
Honestly never had to do it...yet. I would try it on a small section not seen from players perspective if possible, first. I bet it would work just as well though.

In the near future I’m cleaning up my Batman forever, and I’ll try using the flame technique on the green ramps.

Can this method be used with the plastic in front of the DMD?

@@CaryHardy so far novus, magic eraser, sprayway, head light cleaner have not worked.. it was acetone damage.
@CaryHardy
@CaryHardy Год назад
@@OVERKILL_PINBALL whoa, chemical damage isn't going to be fun to remedy. that gets deep and alters the plastic...

@@CaryHardy yeah.. you're right! I'm terrified of flame polishing this thing but it may be the only way... but still searching for alternatives.
@SpencerPlanton

What about boil polishing? No naked flame, no danger of melting your ramp.
@CaryHardy
@CaryHardy Год назад
The point of flame polishing is the flame is able to melt and cool rapidly. Boiling will not allow such a thing. The boiling hot water wouldn't be able to be quickly removed before causing irreversible damage and you wouldn't be able to control the accuracy like you can with a flame.
@SpencerPlanton

@@CaryHardy I asked Keith from South Coast Pinball (in the UK) to do a full service on my ToM and he boil polished the ramps rather than flame polishing them; It was the first time I had heard of it and the results were pretty astounding (my ramps were 'like new'). I will ask him what the process is and get back to you. Not sure if he is using a steam lance maybe?
