The August 6, 2024 intense storm that attacked the Cleveland area brought with it 5 tornadoes that touch down interrupting electric service for a week or two. The 80 mph intense burst of wind also did some damage to the Dry Sail Fleet at Whiskey Island Marina.
One Highlander was blown completely off its trailer and sustained damage to the construction joint that seals the centerboard trunk to the hull. Hull #681 is a circa 1970's boat that, as all hulls this old, has some balsa core water intrusion that weakens the structure just enough so that an event like this further compromises critical construction joints.
I made this video to demonstrate how to manually flip a 20 ft hull like this so that maintenance can be done to the bottom and centerboard trunk area. All you need is a few able-bodied friends to help you along with 6 used tires and off course, the Skipper, Ryan Harris, supplied the beer but only after the task was done.
We'll try to follow through with Part 2 about what was damage was found how that was repaired. We will be using epoxy materials for greater strength.
Stay tuned!
