Folding your quilting and sewing fabric all the same size will help you see what you have and will help you store it neatly. One long ruler will keep your fabric folding neat, easy and handy. Looks great too.

I've been doing it this way for years. Learned the method from some quilting friends. Makes storing your fabrics so much neater. And, if you need to get a piece from the bottom of the pile, slide the ruler between It and the one above, and you can easily pull out the one you need.

This is a great video, Thank you. I was sure there was an easier way to organize my stash. Sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees! I couldn't see the sense of investing in comic book backs to organize it. This is a simple and universal method of folding all fabric and the ruler width is to what works for you. 🙂

Great video! I wish we could see you fold a giant piece this way... I can’t wrap my mind around it. I have several pieces that are width of the fabric by 2 yards and I can’t even fathom how it would be done.

YES again you taught this old dog a new trick and I love it. I don't have backing material per se, but I tend to buy 10 yd pieces that I love. Using this method I can sort in colors, in current or future project uses and not have the piles falling over. With 5 decades and over 200 yards from the boxes of pieces to the 10 yd whole pieces I am going to organize with gusto. heading in now...... wish me luck!

Hi Laura: Thought I had watched most of your tutorials, but found this one completely by accident. Love the concept of using a ruler to help fold fabric consistently and with very little effort. Use a clear tub if you need to store in a container, so you can pretty much see what you have without taking everything out. Or, store by color and label your tubs/containers to indicate the color schemes you have in each. Takes a little effort to sort and label, but sure beats making a mess later to find what you're looking for!

Great idea. I am going to start this today! My stash is stuffed into some big rolling carts, and this is not working for me. I have a big white cabinet near my sewing room so I am going to fold and store most of my fabric in there. I am going to take the big sliding doors off the closet in the room to make the stuff stored in there more accessible. Seems I am always pushing these heavy doors back and forth! What a pain. I am also going to remove my sit-down mid arm and put it in a different room. My little room is just tooooo crowded to work! My poor hubby is going to have to help me a bit today!!

It went well. I made a lot of progress. My fabric is all folded and stashed, I took the doors off my closet, and I put my sit-down long arm in another room, close by. I moved the furniture into a better arrangement. Everything seems much more convenient now so I am quite happy. My husband is putting up another shelf for me, also. I made sure I labeled the bins in my closet so I can find everything. So far so good. Now I have to clean out my office! LOL

Any idea about how to fold knit fabric that had been already cut? I mean, when the piece of fabric is not rectangular anymore and you have to manage strange pieces of fabric^^
@SewVeryEasy
@SewVeryEasy 9 лет назад
4Hirosaki Yes, lay down the biggest piece on the bottom, then place all the other pieces flat on top of that big piece, fold it into thirds ( left over a third of the way and then fold the right over the left) then roll it up and tie it together so that it doesn't unroll. When you see that it is a roll you will know that it has little pieces inside. Make a note to yourself as to what is in the roll, keep the note with the roll, that way you will not have to unroll to see what is in there. Hope this helps:D
