James - yeah, this didn't work for me either. I think you really need the chemical to release a lot of ethylene gas. At least you got a lot of views out of it. My vid got nada. xD LOL
Unfortunately this did not work the soil started to dry out a lot when the plastic was on the plant and sometimes I would lift the plastic and give it water but one time I look the plastic off and a couple of leaves got mold on them and the soil was too dry because the soil Drys out fast and the center rotted but the good news is is that it is growing a sucker at the side of the plant! So the sucker will grow up into a new pineapple plant and they grow faster then the mother plant and it will fruit in about 2 years!
Calcium carbide looks like less of a pain..hopefully your sucker will get flowering sooner than 2 years. Concerning soil moisture, no need to stress it because pineapple roots are mainly for support; their leaves are optimized to funnel moisture towards the whorl. If you're really interested, try looking through some publications from the University of Hawaii; since the industry moved elsewhere, they've released data collected from partnerships with commercial operations.
No unfortunately it didn’t work the center rotted and it probably won’t grow any new leaves and some of the leaves died because a couple of leaves got some mold on them and the soil was very dry but it’s not dead yet
Good video but you missed some very important details like how long does it need to be covered in plastic, a day, a week, a month or till it flowers. If my plant is outdoor in sunny spot like it should be, cover it like that would definitely kill the plant
Yeah, I was an amateur back then 🤣 but I have two pineapple plants that I will just wait for them to flower naturally and not try to force them to flower. It’s taking quite awhile but they’ll eventually flower sometime
