71 year young still learning carpenter here. I started before pneumatic nailers. Boy how things have changed. Very well made video, straight forward , interesting and easy to follow and I've been framing my whole life. What was the purpose of the Tyvek between the sheathing ? Are you purposely nailing at a angle so the nails don't go thru ? I cut my teeth on direct drive saws but why do you prefer them versus a worm drive ? You use a Paslode nailer, I thought Hitachi was the nailer of choice among framers ? Is your tip of your speed square broken off on purpose ? My word of advice is protect your hearing and save your back. Be safe and keep up the good video's. I wish I had You Tube when I started, I'd been 20 years ahead.

Hey man, really enjoying the videos and have learnt a lot. I'm glad you are now breaking it down in sections to explain it all in detail. I have was wondering if you could explain why there is osb on window walls and sheathing and tyvek on the others. When you use sheating do you only have to tyvek the joints and over lap? Which is better and more cost effective? Thanks and keep the vids coming! Its very impressive seeing you build that last house yourself.

Not to gripe or anything but tyvek is manufactured porous so that if water gets behind the WRB it will run out through the “pores” so to say. I’ve had to tear a whole wall down because the inspector wouldn’t pass it unless the letters were upright to allow proper drainage, but that’s here in myrtle beach, not sure the codes of where ever you are, but anyway great video man.

At around 2:00 you use the terms up and down when describing some of the 2x6's you're adding to the wall. What does that mean? I 'framed' up walls in my basement and pissed off the drywallers b/c I didn't do anything normal, lol (nothing is bearing any load). Also I worked at about 1/10th the pace you keep. Learning a ton from your videos man, great stuff!
@Thecrazyframer
@Thecrazyframer 6 лет назад
jcims it's where there are 2 2x6s making an L. It goes up if you need backing on the outside of the wall. Down if you need backing on the inside of the wall .I'll make more videos explaining more.

Curious why you added a half inch for the widow opening, the manufacturer already accounts for that. A 3'0x3'0 vinyl window comes 35 and 7/16 x 35 and 7/16. you make that opening too big and the siders have to fur out the jam if they want to catch any wood in the nail flange.

I noticed that when you located the center of the window, you measure from the outside sheathing, not the outside of framing. Right now I’m currently taking classes and it has been confusing when to measure from the outside of framing or outside of the sheathing. Would you please explain in detail why it was correct to measure from the outside of sheathing? Thanks
@mnframer
@mnframer 4 года назад
There isn't a right or wrong way. Just depends on how the architect draws it up. Some use the sheathing as outside dimension, others everything is framing to framing.
